Are LED matrix headlights a required option for the Porsche Panamera?

How to buy a Porsche

A question I received on a previous blog

I've blogged about it before. What do you think of the LED matrix headlights on the Panamera?"I have been asked, so today I will write about "LED Matrix Headlights". Porsche's LED matrix headlights are

It can illuminate the road at night for a long distance, while at the same time not dazzling oncoming traffic.

This seems to be the key point of the system. When the camera mounted on the rearview mirror recognizes an oncoming car or a car in front, it automatically turns off the lights quickly to avoid disturbing other drivers.(low beams)The bed light is said to have a mechanism that extends the life of the bed light. It is also said to be equipped with a system that extends the life of the bed light.

Then, "theIs it really necessary to have LED headlights as an option?I would like to write about my impressions of the actual use of the system.

1 Cool headlight design.

Porsche Japan official website ".configuratorThe design of the lights can be seen at a glance in the following figure. Normal headlights without options are in this state↓.

This is what happens when you add the "LED matrix headlight" option.

Eyes look bigger?Porsches since 2014 have four-point daytime running lights, but with the option ofThe design consists of 84 LED blocks surrounded by four daytime running lights."and become more distinct.

This is how it changes when you look at the car as a whole. This is the version without options ↓.

This is the version with options ↓.

The eyes look much tighter.

2 PORSCE letters in lights.

I think this one has PORSCHE letters on the lights if you have the LED matrix headlight option...but maybe it has them on the stock ones too. But you can't tell unless you look closely, and I guess it doesn't make any difference for normal driving (-_-)

3 Useful on highways at night in the countryside

Highways in the countryside are often scary at night because there are few lights and it is quite dark, so it is difficult to see what is ahead. That's when LED matrix headlights come into play. The photo below shows the Chugoku Expressway one night. The Chugoku Expressway is also quite dark.

First of all, this is the normal Panamera light. Well, it's bright enough.

Next, this is the state in which it is turned on.

I apologize for the poor photos, but I hope you get the idea...(-_-)

It illuminates the road considerably further, making driving at high speeds much easier. The green traffic indicator plate on the highway will also appear clearly and brightly. If the system detects an oncoming car in the opposite lane beyond the median strip or a car in the uphill lane, it will turn on theThe lights quickly turn off to avoid dazzling other drivers.(As expected, I couldn't get a picture of it, but you can clearly see with the naked eye that it detects a car and goes into low beam.)Quite clever.

Necessary as an option? Unnecessary?

In conclusion, in the case of our familyLED matrix headlights are not a required option."That's my view. It is useful for people who often drive on highways at night or on country roads with few street lights, but people who live in cities with many lights probably rarely have a chance to use it. The Hanshin Expressway, which runs through the center of the city, is brightly lit, so there is no need to use it.

I guess it's an absolute must if you're going to drive somewhere like the Romantic Road in Germany.
