New Panamera Test Drive Review

I went to test drive the new Panamera 4S and the new Panamera Turbo. I wrote about that test drive in my blog, but the Panamera Turbo's acceleration and high-speed stability were so amazing that I was completely intimidated and wrote a test drive review that was somewhat incomprehensible...

→This is a story about test driving the new Panamera Turbo and being overcome with a sense of defeat.

Moreover, this article is the most accessed on this blog, and it is ranked high in keyword searches, which is a very serious situation...so I decided to write about the test drive once again. However, I am neither a motor journalist nor an expert in the field, so I have no idea about the chassis, suspension, torque, or other aspects of the car's structure, so I decided to write about the test drive.Just as an amateur Panamera fan.Write a review of how you feel.I would like to see it.

Has it really surpassed the current model?

I test drove the new Panamera back in February/March of this year, the Panamera 4S in February and the Panamera Turbo in March. At the time, automotive mediapersons and motor journalists were saying that theThe new Panamera has far exceeded our expectations.Although I had evaluated the 970 Panamera Edition as "very good," I was skeptical as to how much it would exceed the 970 Panamera Edition, since my 970 Panamera Edition is also more than adequate.

However, when I actually test-drove the Panamera 4S, I knew within two seconds of the transmission. It was not so much that it exceeded the previous model as that it was a complete improvement over it. More than exceeded. The new Panamera and the current Panamera are completely different."I felt that it was a good idea.It was more like "a bigger 911 as it is" than an evolution of the Panamera.From.

Three differences between the Panamera and the new Panamera

So, let's start withPanamera and the new Panamera.I would like to write about the differences between the two cars. Panamera Edition and Panamera 4S, so I did not compare them to the stock Panamera, but there were three major differences I noticed between the two cars.

(1) Smoothness of starting

Starting is very light and smooth. Just a little pressure on the accelerator pedal and the car starts moving smoothly, as if it were gliding on rails. There is no heavy feeling of moving a huge body.Yet, it still has a decent ground contact feeling. It was able to capture the ground firmly and provide a comfortable ride that was neither too firm nor too soft. Maybe because of the air suspension. Since the test drive was mainly city driving, we often stopped at traffic lights, but I never felt the stress of moving my huge body every time I started off.

(2) Lack of a sense of giant body

It may be similar to the feeling of "smooth start," but it didn't feel huge. In fact, the car is over 1900 mm wide and 5 m long, but I did not feel that at all. It was as ifIs the new Panamera a size smaller?"It was so easy to drive that I felt as if I was driving a big car. It was very easy to drive because there was no fear of driving a big car.

(iii) Comfortable high pitch engine sound

The sound of the engine was very pleasant. When I stepped on the gas pedal, I could hear a high-pitched, gracious engine sound coming from behind, as if the engine were behind me. I suspect that many people who dislike loud engine noises would have no problem with that level of sound.(I wonder if it was soundproofed glass...)

These are my impressions of the new Panamera 4S after test driving it. However, since I did not drive with the engine running at full throttle on the highway, nor did I drive the Panamera 4S on a mountain pass, I believe that I was only able to experience a small portion of the new Panamera 4S's power.

The overall impression is based on the premise thatIf you like 911, you'll love it."On the other hand, I, personally, felt that it was a little lacking. On the other hand, I, personally, felt that it was a little lacking. 4S had the atmosphere of an honor student, so I frankly felt that it would have been nice to have some rougher parts.

Three differences between the new 4S and the new turbo

We then test drove the new Panamera Turbo, and I would like to list three major differences between the new Panamera 4S and the new Panamera Turbo.I was surprised at how different the different models of the same Panamera still feel like such different cars. So, when it comes to the new Panamera Turbo.

(1) It still feels like a giant in a good way.

I am one who likes the feeling of being huge. Of course, I prefer smooth turns, and I don't like the centrifugal force caused by the weight, but I don't have to worry about that when it comes to the Panamera. The new Panamera Turbo is much lighter than our Panamera Edition, but it still feels more massive than the 4S.

(2) The engine sound is a classy bass sound

The turbo's engine sound is double bass, unlike the high-pitched 4S.The "whomp" sound of the engine when you start it up...I like the "All right, I'm gonna run now!" I like it. During the test drive, I was looking forward to the sound of the engine when I first started it up, but since the engine was already a little warm, the sound was more subdued than I expected. If the engine had been cold, I am sure it would have made a great sound. The sound of the engine during acceleration also has the unique sound of a V8 engine. I like Porsche's engine sound because it is not only loud and noisy but also elegant.

(3) Enjoy the duality to the fullest

As I said, it is turbocharged, so it has more power and acceleration than the 4S. It made headlines when it was driven through the Nürburgring in Germany in 7 minutes and 38 seconds. Motor journalist Goro Okazaki commented on this run.Accelerating like a raging beast about to pounce on its prey."He expressed that the acceleration on the highway is just like that.
On the other hand, it can also enjoy a luxurious and elegant ride in town driving or cruising on the highway. The dual nature of the product allows the driver to enjoy driving in any situation, whether graceful in town, ferocious on the highway, or as he or she pleases on the curves of a mountain road.is a major attraction of the turbo.

Panamera 4S or Turbo, which to buy?

So, in general, I would say4S if you want a car that is easy and fun to drive.is a good choice. Also, if your main purpose is daily city driving rather than driving on mountain passes or highways, the 4S is definitely the way to go. On the other hand, if you want to enjoy driving not only in town but also on winding roads, or if you value acceleration and high speed stability on highways, the 4S is the right choice. If you want to enjoy driving in various situations, a turbo is the way to go.(Such people may be rare.)

And, as our family values both driving pleasure and daily driving, we chose the Panamera Turbo.
