Yesterday, I had work in Kyoto, so I drove there in the Panamera. There\u2019s an old saying that Kyoto traffic gets jammed on \u201cgoy\u014dbi\u201d (days of the month ending in 5 or 10)<\/strong>, and sure enough, the roads were crowded everywhere. The highway was relatively clear, but I still ended the drive without using even five percent of the Panamera\u2019s power. (Then again, it wasn\u2019t really a drive\u2014it was a work trip.)<\/span><\/p>\n Since I started driving the Panamera, I\u2019ve found myself wondering: \u201cCould there be a special Panamera lane built into Japan\u2019s highways\u2014one that only responds when a Panamera comes along?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Even when you\u2019re moving at a serious pace, the car feels utterly planted. <\/span>Strong winds or rain make no difference; it stays composed. You can enter a bend at 100 km\/h without a hint of apprehension, trace the curve precisely, and feel the car cling to the road. Better still, it\u2019s so confidence-inspiring that you find yourself wanting to accelerate through the turn.<\/p>\n And that\u2019s in the car\u2019s normal settings\u2014not Sport mode, and without stiffening the suspension.<\/p>\n When I test-drove the new Panamera at the dealership, the ride was so smooth that I actually asked H, the sales representative, \u201cDid they recently resurface the roads around here?\u201d (Of course, no such roadwork had taken place.)<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s enough to make you believe there must be Panamera rails embedded in the road.<\/strong> (There aren\u2019t, obviously.)<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m heading to a meeting in Osaka today, so I\u2019ll be setting off in a little while and enjoying that Panamera-rail feeling along the way.
