I think the number of people who are passionate about cars is shrinking year by year. We often hear about \u201cyoung people turning away from cars,\u201d and more and more vehicles are designed around practicality and fuel economy rather than the thrill of driving. In a world like this, a woman who\u2019s genuinely into cars is a pretty rare breed\u2026 So it\u2019s not often that I meet a woman I can really talk cars with.<\/p>\n
I often meet with female representatives from other companies for work, but cars almost never come up (Then again, it is a business meeting, so that\u2019s hardly surprising\u2026 lol)<\/span><\/p>\n Once, someone asked me, \u201cWhat do you like to do on your days off?\u201d<\/strong> I replied, \u201cI\u2019m into cars, so I go for drives with my family.\u201d She answered:<\/p>\n \u201cI love cars too! I often go for a drive after work. I cruise down the highway with the music cranked up, singing along at the top of my lungs! It\u2019s so much fun!\u201d<\/p>\n But I couldn\u2019t help thinking that maybe she didn\u2019t love cars so much as enjoy driving to blow off steam\u2026 I just said, \u201cYeah, it really is,\u201d without committing either way, and quickly changed the subject.<\/p>\n I was once talking with someone at a Japanese car dealership when they asked, \u201cAre you into cars?\u201d<\/strong> I mentioned that I liked the Porsche Panamera, and they replied, \u201cThe Porsche Panamera\u2026 I know the Cayenne, though\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n Another time, I was chatting with a woman who liked imported cars and figured she\u2019d know what I meant when I said, \u201cI love the Porsche Panamera!\u201d<\/strong> Instead, she asked, \u201cHuh? The Primera?\u201d<\/strong> At that point, all I could do was laugh.<\/p>\n The Cayenne and 911 are well-known Porsches, but the Panamera doesn\u2019t get as much recognition. It\u2019s such a great car, too (Though I have to admit, I didn\u2019t know about it myself until a few years ago.)<\/span><\/p>\n Maybe I\u2019d meet more women who shared my passion if I were the kind of driver who loved nothing more than \u201cpushing a manual-transmission sports car to the limit,\u201d<\/strong> like Yoko Natsuki. But I\u2019m not quite that obsessed with driving itself\u2026<\/p>\n Actually, now that I think about it, I\u2019m basically only interested in the Panamera.
