With an income that was just \u201cabove average,\u201d buying a brand-new Porsche was simply out of the question. I remember that the best I could do was take out a loan to buy an Audi TT for about 4.5 million yen a few years after joining the company.<\/p>\n<p>Still, <strong>my longing for a Porsche was always somewhere in my heart.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I used to talk with friends about going on a touring trip in a Porsche when we turned 40, vividly imagining that scene. Back then, it was just a fantasy, but after starting my own business and nearly nine years later, I finally managed to get a Porsche.<\/p>\n<p>This time, I want to share lessons from my experience with those who, like I once was, want to own a Porsche while working as a salaryman. The reality is close to an almost impossible \u201cunfair game.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s why you should first <strong>reconsider the very idea of \u201cenduring hardships and working hard little by little.\u201d<\/strong> There are countless companies with better conditions and jobs with higher pay. If you\u2019re worried about whether you can buy a Porsche at your current company but keep pushing yourself, it\u2019s more efficient to switch jobs and market yourself at a higher level.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35034\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/GevkKyAbsAcU_ZU.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche Cayman T\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Japanese people tend to be bound by the proverb \u201cThree years on a stone,\u201d but <strong>to me, it\u2019s more like \u201cThree seconds on a stone.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you feel something\u2019s off or uncomfortable, you should move on immediately. In modern Japan, there\u2019s absolutely no need to cling to one environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I\u2019m worried about changing jobs,\u201d I can hear some say. What\u2019s the root of that anxiety? In many cases, it\u2019s a lack of confidence in one\u2019s own skills and abilities. If you had solid skills, you\u2019d be confident you could survive anywhere.<\/p>\n<p>So how do you build that confidence? The answer is simple: <strong>gain experience.<\/strong> To use an RPG analogy, <strong>you won\u2019t level up by just defeating slimes.<\/strong> You need to repeatedly challenge yourself with slightly tougher opponents\u2014those that require you to stretch a bit\u2014and overcome them. Only then can you truly grow (level up).<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Think_Like_an_RPG_Always_Aim_to_Level_Up_Your_%E2%80%9CMarket_Value%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Think Like an RPG: Always Aim to Level Up Your \u201cMarket Value\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>To achieve the goal of owning a Porsche, it\u2019s important to see yourself as an RPG character and always be conscious of leveling up.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of waiting for \u201cexternal evaluations\u201d like small annual raises or bonus increases from your company, <strong>you need to focus on raising your own \u201cmarket value.\u201d<\/strong> This isn\u2019t just a technique but a mindset and attitude essential for success.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone feels some anxiety about changing environments, but as mentioned earlier, overcoming that anxiety requires continuously taking on challenges that push you beyond your comfort zone.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35599\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/DSC05785-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Besides specialized skills, acquiring portable skills\u2014such as building relationships, being liked and trusted by others\u2014will help you adapt to any workplace.<\/p>\n<p>For example, in the entertainment industry, some comedians or talents aren\u2019t particularly flashy but continue to work steadily for a long time. They often have an atmosphere that makes staff want to work with them again. The same applies in business: beyond skills and abilities, <strong>being someone people want to rely on and work with attracts many opportunities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gather your courage, dive into new environments, and keep taking on slightly challenging tasks. This repetition will help you level up yourself.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_First_Step_Toward_a_Porsche_Break_Free_from_%E2%80%9CHourly_Wage_Thinking%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>The First Step Toward a Porsche: Break Free from \u201cHourly Wage Thinking\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The most important mindset shift for a salaryman aiming to own a Porsche is to <strong>escape the idea that \u201cI\u2019m exchanging my time for money.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This concept may be hard to grasp without experience in self-employment or running a business. But one thing is clear: as long as you think in terms of earning money by time, it\u2019s extremely difficult to build the kind of wealth needed to buy a Porsche.<\/p>\n<p>You need to shift your thinking to earning based on your abilities, the value you provide, or your own qualities\u2014not your time.<\/p>\n<p>If you keep thinking, \u201cI worked overtime and earned an extra 30,000 yen this month,\u201d you won\u2019t reach a Porsche. Don\u2019t worry about working hours or overtime pay. Sometimes, whether it\u2019s weekends or late at night, use your time by your own will and act for results.<\/p>\n<p>By shifting to the mindset that \u201cI\u2019m paid for my abilities and results,\u201d your company may finally start to truly evaluate you. If they don\u2019t, it means they can\u2019t\u2014or won\u2019t\u2014properly recognize your abilities. In that case, you should immediately move to a company that values you more highly.<\/p>\n<p>Whether you\u2019re an engineer contributing to project completion or launching new services, or an office worker reducing costs through process improvements, <strong>focusing on being evaluated for \u201cresults\u201d is the shortcut to higher income.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_%E2%80%9CResults-Oriented%E2%80%9D_Mindset_to_Draw_Your_Porsche_Closer\"><\/span>A \u201cResults-Oriented\u201d Mindset to Draw Your Porsche Closer<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Ultimately, the core to owning a Porsche is the mindset shift from <strong>\u201cearning money by time\u201d to \u201cearning money by results,\u201d<\/strong> in other words, adopting a \u201cresults-oriented\u201d way of thinking.<\/p>\n<p>Even as a salaryman receiving a paycheck, don\u2019t see it as mere compensation for time but as a reward for the value and results you bring to the company.<\/p>\n<p>Once you adopt this mindset, your approach to work changes, and your evaluation at work is likely to improve. If you feel you\u2019re not fairly evaluated in your current environment, that\u2019s a sign you\u2019re in a place that doesn\u2019t properly recognize your value. In such a case, don\u2019t hesitate to change jobs and move to a place that values your abilities more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The path to a Porsche begins by breaking free from the shackles of hourly wage thinking and daring to compete based on your own value.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Importance_of_Having_an_%E2%80%9CIron_Will%E2%80%9D_to_Never_Give_Up_on_Your_Dream\"><\/span>The Importance of Having an \u201cIron Will\u201d to Never Give Up on Your Dream<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Don\u2019t give up on buying a Porsche because it\u2019s \u201cbeyond your means\u201d or because your family or partner opposes it.<\/p>\n<p>As I wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/%e3%83%9d%e3%83%ab%e3%82%b7%e3%82%a7%e3%82%92%e6%89%8b%e3%81%ab%e5%85%a5%e3%82%8c%e3%82%8b%e5%8b%87%e6%b0%97%ef%bc%9a%e6%88%90%e5%8a%9f%e3%81%b8%e3%81%ae%e7%ac%ac%e4%b8%80%e6%ad%a9%e3%81%af%e8%87%aa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous article<\/a>, if you\u2019re going to yield to such opposition, you should reconsider those relationships. Of course, this is an extreme example, but it shows the importance of having an <strong>\u201ciron will\u201d<\/strong> toward your dreams and goals. With the right mindset and action strategy, it\u2019s not impossible.
