It\u2019s been almost a month since I started this blog, and I\u2019m grateful to say that more than 70 people are reading it. Thank you so much for sticking with this rather niche blog. Your support gives me the motivation to keep writing!<\/strong><\/p>\n That said\u2026 when you write every day, you eventually run out of things to say about the Panamera.<\/p>\n I started this blog full of enthusiasm, determined to share my love for the Panamera. But it\u2019s not as if I discover something new every single day. \u201cAh, what a great car\u2014the planted feel, the commanding presence\u2026\u201d<\/strong> Most of the time, I feel the same way every time I drive it. And each time, I just fall a little more in love.<\/p>\n So from now on, alongside writing about my love for the Panamera and my goal of buying one with my own money, I\u2019d like to share some of the thoughts that cars inspire in me.<\/p>\n When I was in college, some of my wealthier friends would say things like, \u201cMy parents bought me a car\u201d or \u201cI\u2019ll drive if we\u2019re going out,\u201d and bring their cars to campus. I don\u2019t know what kind of lives they\u2019re leading now, but I sometimes wonder if they had a hard time adjusting when they entered the working world.<\/p>\n As for me, I\u2019ve decided that I won\u2019t buy my kids a car.<\/strong> (Though they\u2019re only three and one, so maybe it\u2019s a little early to be thinking about this.<\/span>)<\/p>\n If they want a car, they can start by buying one themselves\u2014something within their budget. If there\u2019s a particular car they really want, they can come to me and negotiate: \u201cI\u2019ve saved \u25cf\u25cf yen from my part-time job, so could you chip in \u25cf\u25cf yen?\u201d<\/strong> or \u201cI can put in \u25cf\u25cf yen myself. Could you cover \u25cf\u25cf yen? I\u2019ll pay you back every month.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Child: \u201cI want this car!\u201d That\u2019s not the kind of exchange I want to have. I feel this way because I want my kids to grow into independent people who understand the value of money.<\/strong><\/p>\n When I was applying to college, I had to spend quite a bit on applications and enrollment fees for backup schools. My mother told me:<\/p>\n \u201cSure, but money doesn\u2019t just come pouring out when you press a button.\u201d<\/p>\n I thought I understood what she meant, but it wasn\u2019t until I started working part-time in college and learned how hard it was to earn 10,000 yen that her words really sank in. When I think about it, parents are amazing.<\/p>\n Making money isn\u2019t easy. At the same time, it\u2019s not good to assume that earning money is impossibly hard. I do think it\u2019s possible to earn well once you understand how things work\u2014but if you want to make a lot, you also have to work on becoming someone with the skills and value to match.<\/p>\n I want my daughters to understand that, too, which is why I don\u2019t plan to buy them a car. They may think, \u201cMom\u2019s such a pain. I can\u2019t wait to move out.\u201d<\/strong> But that might only strengthen their desire to leave home and become independent\u2014which wouldn\u2019t necessarily be a bad thing.<\/p>\n I\u2019ll support my kids wholeheartedly in whatever they want to do. But I won\u2019t simply hand them everything they want.<\/p>\n That\u2019s the kind of mother I hope to be\u2014one who can stick to that approach.<\/p>\n \u2026And somehow, I\u2019ve ended up writing about something that has nothing to do with cars or the Panamera.
