It was almost stock, with only <strong>HKS coilovers installed<\/strong>. Also, only the driver\u2019s seat was swapped for a bucket seat; otherwise, it was nearly a stock vehicle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_3653-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"HKS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clutch_Feel_and_First_Impressions\"><\/span>Clutch Feel and First Impressions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The first thing I noticed when getting in was how quickly the clutch engaged.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to a Porsche, it felt like the clutch connected almost immediately with just a slight lift. However, this doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s hard to drive; on the contrary, it feels very manageable, and there\u2019s no tendency to stall easily. I think the clutch operation is excellent.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35412\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_3642-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Roadster\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After taking the first two or three corners, I was deeply impressed. <strong>\u201cWas the Roadster always this much fun?\u201d<\/strong> was my immediate thought.<br \/>\nIt simply turns so well. The responsiveness is sharp yet not overly sensitive\u2014a perfect balance.<\/p>\n<p>At the start of steering input, it turns exactly as much as you steer.<br \/>\nThere\u2019s no slack, making it very easy to control. Up to a certain steering angle, it then gives a slight <strong>oversteer tendency<\/strong>, pulling strongly inward. This might feel a bit scary for beginners, but this spinning sensation is incredibly enjoyable.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Handling_Characteristics_and_Driving_Feel\"><\/span>Handling Characteristics and Driving Feel<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When I drove the Roadster before, it felt like the rotation axis was more forward compared to the Porsche Boxster, but <strong>this time, it felt like it was behind me.<\/strong> This might be due to the suspension differences. The previous car had Bilstein B12s, while this one had HKS coilovers.<\/p>\n<p>The joy of cornering kept growing with every turn, a feeling hard to find in other cars. Like a Porsche, it makes you wish <strong>\u201cif only the curves would keep coming.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_3649-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Roadster\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Regarding engine power, maintaining a certain RPM range means you don\u2019t feel lacking.<br \/>\nIt has <strong>just the right power and gear ratios for Japan\u2019s narrow mountain and winding roads.<\/strong> Porsches tend to have slightly taller gearing, making it hard to rev freely in some situations, but the Roadster lets you enjoy mid-to-high revs smoothly.<\/p>\n<p>While driving, it never feels slow, but objectively it\u2019s not especially fast.<br \/>\nStill, the sensation of using every ounce of the engine\u2019s power is exhilarating. This is a joy you won\u2019t find in super sports or supercars. It\u2019s a <strong>car that teaches you power isn\u2019t everything<\/strong>, a <strong>somewhat mature driving experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Charm_of_the_Engine_Sound\"><\/span>The Charm of the Engine Sound<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Last time, the engine sound didn\u2019t leave much impression, but this time I found it very pleasant. It\u2019s not loud, but you can clearly hear it. Yet, it\u2019s not an emotional roar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Roadster\u2019s engine sound is like background music (BGM).<\/strong> If a Porsche\u2019s engine note is a \u201csong,\u201d the Roadster\u2019s is the \u201cBGM.\u201d <strong>It doesn\u2019t get in the way but adds color to the drive.<\/strong> This makes long drives comfortable and even makes you want to keep going.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35407\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_3647-960x1280.jpeg\" alt=\"Roadster\" width=\"960\" height=\"1280\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Brake_Feel_and_Performance\"><\/span>Brake Feel and Performance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The brakes left a better impression than during my previous test drive. While not quite Porsche-level, they have a solid, confident feel. You adjust more by pedal force than stroke, making them very easy and satisfying to use.<\/p>\n<p>Controlling stopping power is straightforward, and <strong>you quickly get a sense of \u201cpress this hard, and you\u2019ll slow down this much.\u201d<\/strong> This adds to the driving enjoyment.<\/p>\n<p>I also tested full acceleration; it\u2019s not especially fast, but <strong>considering Japan\u2019s road conditions, this acceleration is just right.<\/strong> It\u2019s safe enough, neither too slow nor too fast, yet cornering speeds remain impressively high.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35413\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_3641-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Roadster\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Body_Rigidity_and_Overall_Evaluation\"><\/span>Body Rigidity and Overall Evaluation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The body feels very rigid, showcasing Mazda\u2019s craftsmanship. I felt this even when driving the previous NC Roadster. Mazda\u2019s technology to achieve high rigidity in an open-top car is <strong>something the world can be proud of.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Overall, the ND Roadster is an exceptionally well-made car. While I\u2019m not always impressed with other Mazda models, the Roadster stands apart. <strong>Seeing such a fantastic car makes me wonder if Mazda could make even better cars in other segments.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-35403\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/IMG_3651-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Roadster\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Compared to the Porsche Boxster, especially the 986 model, the fun factor is very similar.<br \/>\nHowever, I felt the Roadster is better suited to Japan\u2019s winding roads. Its engine power and gear ratios fit Japan\u2019s road conditions perfectly.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, its straight-line stability at high speeds doesn\u2019t match European cars. Or rather, <strong>it doesn\u2019t seem to aim for that.<\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s not unstable, but it lacks the sensation of becoming more stable the faster you go, like the Boxster. Still, for Japan\u2019s mountain passes, winding roads, and rural national routes, <strong>the ND Roadster is the ideal car.<\/strong> The open-top feel is exceptional, and it lets in less wind than the Boxster.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I am absolutely certain I will buy a Roadster someday.<\/strong><br \/>\nIt was that captivating.
