This kind of exchange happens a lot:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat does your husband drive?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cUh\u2026 a 911, a Boxster, a Cayman\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cWait, how many Porsches does he have?\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201c\u2026I think he has about four right now\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow! What does your husband do for work?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cOh, he\u2019s basically a business owner\u2026 runs an IT company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWow, that\u2019s impressive\u2026 he must be a celebrity or something.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cNo, no, my husband shops at Uniqlo and wears his clothes until they\u2019re threadbare. He\u2019s totally all-in on cars \u2014 a free-spirited car enthusiast. He\u2019ll say, <strong>\u2018I\u2019m going on a little tour,\u2019<\/strong> and just take off for two or three days without a second thought.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s amazing\u2026 Mina, you must be really okay with that. I leave all the childcare to my wife during the week, so on weekends I have to prioritize family or it would be chaos\u2026 I\u2019m so jealous of your husband.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since my husband\u2019s circle is full of similarly free-spirited Porsche lovers, my sense of normal has gotten a bit warped, and I tend to think, <strong>&#8220;Maybe this is just how it is.&#8221;<\/strong> But I realize our family life is probably a bit different from the average household.<\/p>\n<p>That said, I don\u2019t feel like I\u2019m <strong>&#8220;putting up with anything&#8221;<\/strong> or <strong>&#8220;making sacrifices.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We never felt that just because we\u2019re married, we have to spend every weekend together. We\u2019re both independent adults, so our ideal is <strong>&#8220;each of us freely doing what we want, while staying deeply connected as a family.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the foundation of our relationship.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35034\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/GevkKyAbsAcU_ZU.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche Cayman T\" width=\"1200\" height=\"900\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Importance_of_Shared_Values\"><\/span>The Importance of Shared Values<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>That doesn\u2019t mean our lives are completely separate.<\/p>\n<p>My husband eats dinner at home every day, and if I absolutely can\u2019t pick up our son from kindergarten because of work, he\u2019ll step in. Most of our conversations revolve around cars, but we do talk every day.<\/p>\n<p>Also, in our family, <strong>&#8220;the New Year\u2019s visit to Kumano Nachi Taisha (though we go quite late)&#8221; and the &#8220;911DAYS track event at Fuji Speedway&#8221;<\/strong> have become annual traditions we always attend together.<\/p>\n<p>We haven\u2019t set any strict rules, but we naturally maintain a comfortable distance that works for both of us.<\/p>\n<p>Why does this work? I think it\u2019s largely because we <strong>&#8220;got married because our values matched.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Both of us had lived thinking, <strong>&#8220;Maybe I won\u2019t get married at all.&#8221;<\/strong> We wanted to live a life where we could fully pursue what we love. If marriage meant giving that up, we weren\u2019t going to force it.<\/p>\n<p>Writing this out now, I realize I probably don\u2019t have the typical woman\u2019s mindset\u2026 I grew up in a perfectly normal family, so why did I end up thinking like this? (laughs)<\/p>\n<p>My husband once told his sister-in-law about me:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cShe\u2019s really different. Imagine everyone going to yoga classes with their friends, but she\u2019s the only one saying, <strong>\u2018I want to learn hula hooping!\u2019<\/strong> and going off to hula hoop classes alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Why hula hoop? (laughs) But I guess that\u2019s just his way of saying I\u2019m unique (though I think I\u2019m perfectly normal).<\/p>\n<p>So why did we decide to get married?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI love my work so much, I want to keep pushing hard forever!\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u201cThat\u2019s great. If you\u2019re the boss, you\u2019ve got to earn enough to drive a bright red Porsche around! Go for it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI absolutely don\u2019t want to be on an allowance after marriage.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>\u201cThat makes sense. You should spend the money you earn however you want.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Through conversations like this, we realized our values were similar, and thought, well, maybe marriage can be fun after all.<\/p>\n<p>From the start, my husband said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">I won\u2019t do any housework. But instead, I\u2019ll spend money on time-saving appliances and hire help to reduce the burden. I want to earn more and work hard for that.<\/p>\n<p>I guess a man who says that is pretty rare (laughs).<\/p>\n<p>When we first got married, as with any two strangers, we had small differences in values and had to talk things through. But over time, our values aligned more and more, and now they mostly match.<\/p>\n<p>Today, we\u2019re on the same page about:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Parenting philosophy<\/li>\n<li>How to spend our days off<\/li>\n<li>Money sense<\/li>\n<li>The desire to aim higher<\/li>\n<li>Generally not liking to hang out in groups<\/li>\n<li>Even what kinds of cars we like (laughs)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our priorities and what we value in life have become very similar. Also, considering <strong>my husband\u2019s motivation rises when he buys and switches cars, and he produces visible results from enjoying his cars,<\/strong> I think it\u2019s actually good for him to keep buying more cars.<\/p>\n<p>And the more freedom my husband gives himself, the more I can boldly challenge myself in my own life.
