I always stop at Shell. <span style=\"font-size: 80%;\">(I have a Shell EasyPay card.)<\/span> But when I arrived, there were actually more cars than on a sunny day. \u201cSeriously? I went out of my way to come on a rainy day, and it\u2019s still busy!\u201d I thought, a little disappointed. <span style=\"font-size: 80%;\">(Come to think of it, maybe more people drive when it rains.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Panamera\u2019s fuel gauge was exactly half full.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3231 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908092105-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our Panamera has an 80-liter fuel tank, so with 40 liters left, it can travel 262 kilometers. <strong>That works out to 6.55 kilometers per liter.<\/strong> The figure on the \u201cConsumpt\u201d display confirms it. Still, that\u2019s pretty poor fuel economy.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Filling Up the Panamera<\/h3>\n<p>The Panamera takes premium gasoline. With Shell EasyPay, it was \u00a5133 per liter yesterday\u2014a \u00a54 discount. I pressed the blue \u201cStart fueling\u201d button,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3232 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908093018-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>then tapped my IC card.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3233 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908093439-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3234 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908093634-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of course, I chose \u201cFill with premium, please!\u201d Then I picked up the yellow nozzle\u2026 <span style=\"font-size: 80%;\">(Choose the red one by mistake while distracted, and you\u2019re in trouble.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3235 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908093804-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I made sure to insert the nozzle all the way before squeezing the handle. <span style=\"font-size: 80%;\">(Once, I squeezed the handle before the nozzle was fully in and ended up spraying gasoline everywhere.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3236 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908094606-e1530665273288-700x480-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m usually bored while filling up, so I try to guess exactly how many liters the tank will take and wait excitedly for the numbers to stop, like a game show reveal. I\u2019ve never guessed right. <span style=\"font-size: 80%;\">(This time, I guessed 41.5 liters, but it took 43.65.)<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">How Much Did This Fill-Up Cost?<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3237 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908094708-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">43.65 liters came to \u00a55,805\u2026 Ouch! (\uff1b\uff9f\u0414\uff9f)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A full tank from empty would cost around \u00a512,000 at that rate. Every time I fill up, I find myself wondering if my poor fuel economy is down to my driving\u2014maybe I\u2019m too heavy on the throttle or not smooth enough on the brakes.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3238 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908094922-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Back in the car, I fired up the engine with a \u201cvroom,\u201d reset the trip meter,<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3239 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908095233-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>and headed straight home without making any detours. Looking at the receipt again at home, I was reminded just how quickly fuel costs add up.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3240 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/20170908094957-600x800.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"800\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve heard the next Panamera Turbo has a fuel-saving mode for stop-and-go traffic, so perhaps its fuel economy will be a little better.
