Beige Looks Great, But\u2026<\/h3>\n

The leather seats in our Panamera are beige. The specification is called \u201cStandard Interior in Black\/Luxor Beige,\u201d<\/strong> and I really like the two-tone look. Beige seats also seem to add a touch of luxury, so I was thrilled with them when the car was new.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

But after a while, I started noticing the dirt on the seats. Beige looks beautiful, but the downside is that stains really show.<\/strong> If I\u2019d wiped the seats down with leather-cleaning wipes after every drive, they probably wouldn\u2019t have gotten this dirty. But I never did. (With two kids, there\u2019s never really time to do that before getting out of the car.)<\/span> After a year and a half of ownership, here\u2019s how they looked.<\/p>\n

They look pretty grimy\u2026 The main culprit was my denim. I\u2019d spent quite a while driving in a pair of dark jeans I\u2019d bought about a year earlier, and I suspect sweat and friction caused the dye to transfer. I\u2019d washed them plenty of times, and they didn\u2019t seem to be fading anymore, so I assumed they\u2019d be fine. I was wrong.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

They look even worse up close\u2026 These days, I never wear those jeans when driving the Panamera. In fact, I\u2019ve switched to a pair that\u2019s about five years old and so worn out that surely there\u2019s no dye left to transfer. (Not exactly a stylish solution, I know.)<\/span> Still, I\u2019ll soon be saying goodbye to this Panamera, and I wanted to give it a proper clean before then. So today, I decided to try wiping down the leather seats. (I really should have cleaned them at least once in the year and a half I\u2019ve owned the car\u2026)<\/span><\/p>\n

What Did I Use to Clean the Seats?<\/h3>\n

For this test, I used SOFT99 Leather Cleaning Wipes<\/a>. A pack of seven costs about \u00a5450 on Amazon. There are only seven in a pack, and my husband had already used a few, so I had to make them last. I also didn\u2019t want to risk making the seats look worse, so I decided to test one small area first.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I chose the dirtiest part of the driver\u2019s seat cushion\u2014the area with the most denim dye transfer and the one that immediately caught my eye. I figured that if I could clean this spot, I could probably tackle the rest of the seats, too. I took out one wipe and gave it a try. (The stain is right here \u2193\u2193)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The wipe was thicker and sturdier than I expected. It looked as though one would go a long way, so I gently rubbed the dirty section of the driver\u2019s seat cushion back and forth about 10 times. Here\u2019s how it turned out.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Does it look a little cleaner? (My photography is so bad that it\u2019s hard to see the difference, but I think it made quite an improvement.)<\/span> I barely applied any pressure, and I didn\u2019t use any extra cleaner\u2014yet it worked this well! So I decided to try the same wipe on the front of the seat cushion, too. Here\u2019s what it looked like before cleaning:<\/p>\n

A few light passes didn\u2019t do much this time, so I rubbed a little harder for about 10 back-and-forth passes. This is how clean it got.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Wow\u2026 That\u2019s a pretty impressive difference!<\/span> The stains on the backrest and the areas with especially heavy dye transfer didn\u2019t come off, even after quite a bit of rubbing. I\u2019ll try a different approach on those another day. And here\u2019s what the wipe looked like after cleaning the leather seats.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s seriously filthy\u2026 I definitely don\u2019t have enough wipes left to clean the driver\u2019s seat, front passenger seat, and rear seats. I\u2019ll need to buy another pack and look for other products that can clean leather seats effectively. So, here are the lessons our family learned from choosing a beige Panamera interior:<\/p>\n

1. Choose a darker interior next time.
\n2. Never wear jeans that might transfer dye.
\n3. If you do drive in something that might transfer dye, wipe the seats down right away.<\/span><\/p>\n

By the way, the new Panamera Turbo arriving in October will have a black interior, in keeping with those lessons.
