When I posted my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/gt4rs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GT4 RS test drive report<\/a> on my blog, I detailed the <strong>very positive impression<\/strong> it left on me. The GT4 RS, equipped with an engine inherited from the GT3, is an extremely race-oriented car. However, it <strong>has characteristics that clearly set it apart from the GT3<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-34397\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/porsche-zoom2-9-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Spider RS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Differences_Between_the_GT4_RS_and_GT3_%E2%80%93_The_Allure_of_Engine_and_Exhaust_Sounds\"><\/span>Differences Between the GT4 RS and GT3 \u2013 The Allure of Engine and Exhaust Sounds<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The biggest appeal of the GT4 RS lies in its engine sound, exhaust note, and intake roar. Compared to the GT3, it offers an even more direct and <strong>sportier acoustic experience<\/strong>. This was especially striking.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the performance of the PDK transmission is noteworthy.<\/p>\n<p>While the GT3 also boasts an excellent PDK, <strong>the GT4 RS\u2019s is a step ahead<\/strong>. I felt it could shift even faster than the GT3. This is likely influenced by the very short gear ratios.<\/p>\n<p>The PDK in the GT4 RS and Spider RS boasts <strong>astonishing sharpness<\/strong>. It responds like a lightweight engine with a lightened flywheel and clutch, perfectly described as \u201clightning-fast precision.\u201d Moreover, it shifts crisply even at low speeds and low RPMs typical of everyday driving.<\/p>\n<p>I highly recommend watching the sharpness of the downshift from 5th gear around 4:15 in this video.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ytube\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/vKHX8_A55IM?si=UzItK6MpNModSSWq&amp;start=255\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>This aspect was a major attraction for me.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_I_Chose_the_Spider_RS_Over_the_GT4_RS\"><\/span>Why I Chose the Spider RS Over the GT4 RS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>So, why did I choose the Spider RS instead of the GT4 RS?<\/p>\n<p>The reason lies in my everyday usage goals. <strong>I want to enjoy my car on tours and casual drives<\/strong>. While the GT4 RS is undoubtedly fantastic, it is fundamentally set up with a focus on circuit driving.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-34398\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/porsche-zoom2-1-1280x720.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Spider RS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, <strong>the Spider RS is tuned for driving on public roads<\/strong>. Porsche officially states that the spring rates are set lower compared to the GT4 RS, and overseas reviews highly praise its comfortable ride on regular roads and stable handling even on rough surfaces.<\/p>\n<p>This perfectly matches my intended use.<\/p>\n<p>When I previously owned a GT3 Touring, I also planned to use it for touring, but since it shared the exact same setup as the winged GT3, the ride comfort was somewhat compromised. Also, due to its high gear ratios, I had to be selective about where I drove to fully enjoy the engine on tours.<br \/>\nLearning from that, <strong>this time I wanted a GT3-engine car without the GT badge, tuned specifically for public road use.<\/strong><br \/>\nThe arrival of the Spider RS was truly a godsend.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Unique_Charm_of_the_Spider_RS\"><\/span>The Unique Charm of the Spider RS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The GT3 is a wonderful car, but the Spider RS has a special appeal unlike any other.<\/p>\n<p>That is, <strong>being able to enjoy the GT3 engine in an open-top, mid-engine layout<\/strong>.<br \/>\nSuch a luxurious combination is unmatched within Porsche\u2019s lineup.<\/p>\n<p>There is the limited 991 Speedster model that lets you enjoy the GT3 engine in an open car, but when you add the mid-engine factor, the Spider RS\u2019s uniqueness really stands out. This was another major reason I chose the Spider RS.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Differences_Between_the_718_Spider_and_Spider_RS\"><\/span>Differences Between the 718 Spider and Spider RS<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Some readers might wonder about this. You may recall my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/718spyder-cancel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous article about passing on the 718 Spider<\/a>. So why did I decide to buy the Spider RS?<\/p>\n<p>In short, I consider the 718 Spider and Spider RS to be <strong>completely different cars<\/strong>. The 718 Spider is a great car, but for me, there were aspects I didn\u2019t prefer, such as power feel, balance, sound quality, and the way the car becomes quiet as soon as you start driving.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the Spider RS is entirely different. The intake and exhaust sounds reach directly into the cabin, allowing you to enjoy the engine even at low speeds. This was a feature I also noticed during the GT4 RS test drive. Notably, <strong>the low gear ratios of the 718 Spider RS and GT4 RS are remarkable, even lower than those of the GT3.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Because of this, while it\u2019s difficult to fully rev the 9000 rpm engine on public roads, the Spider RS lets you enjoy the GT3 engine over a wider range.
