The other day, I wrote a post about trying my hand at an English-language Panamera blog. On November 29, I actually wrote my first post. Well, I didn\u2019t have to come up with a new topic\u2014I decided to translate my existing blog posts into English, one by one\u2014but it still took a surprising amount of time.<\/p>\n
First, I ran the whole thing through Google Translate, and it did a better job than I expected. I figured it could handle about 70 percent of the English draft.<\/p>\n
But my original Japanese included expressions like \u201cSeriously?!\u201d (laughs)<\/span> and \u201cYou idiot!\u201d<\/span>, and Google wasn\u2019t exactly great at capturing that kind of tone\u2026 (No surprise there.)<\/span><\/p>\n So I ended up checking each sentence online to see if it sounded right\u2014(Weblio usually came up)<\/span>\u2014and comparing example sentences before revising it bit by bit. It was a pretty substantial job. I cut anything that felt impossible to translate, but even so, it took two hours to finish one post.<\/p>\n Whoa! Two hours!! ( \uff9f\u2200\uff9f)\uff65\u2235. \uff78\uff9e\uff8a\uff6f!<\/span><\/p>\n Between raising kids, working, and keeping up with the housework, my free time is precious\u2014so I couldn\u2019t believe I\u2019d spent a full two hours on one post\u2026!<\/span> Partway through, I wondered, \u201cIs this really worth the effort? (-_-)\/\u201d But I gave myself a pep talk: I wanted to build a blog that Panamera fans around the world could enjoy. Somehow, I got it published, shared it in English on Twitter, and even added some hashtags.<\/p>\n So, how did that English post\u2014which took two hours to write\u2014do after six days online? The number of visits was\u2026 well\u2026<\/p>\n \u2026<\/p>\n \u2026<\/p>\n \u201c3\u201d!!<\/span><\/p>\n Just \u201c3\u201d visits in six days! ( \uff9f\u2200\uff9f)\uff65\u2235. !!!<\/span>(That works out to just 0.5 visits a day! Ha!)<\/span><\/p>\n And I\u2019m pretty sure all three were me. Well, I guess that\u2019s how it goes at the beginning. I\u2019ll keep at it and try to post little by little.<\/p>\n \u2193\u2193\u2193So, How Many Visits Did It Get?<\/h5>\n
