A 911 Turbo!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Audi\u2019s R8 had served as the safety car since 2012. The race itself was unusual: dense fog caused by poor weather led to one red-flag stoppage, followed by three restarts behind the safety car. With the safety car seeing so much more action than usual, perhaps it was no surprise that it stood out.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-867\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/img_1_m-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"750\" height=\"500\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">Image source: <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.yahoo.co.jp\/sanzen_in\/36987915.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017 WEC World Endurance Championship, Round 7: Fuji 6 Hours\u2014Race<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>I was watching from the lounge, and every time the race was interrupted, a group of people next to me who looked like motorsports journalists would laugh and say:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u201cHonestly, the R8 is the star of this WEC race. Audi\u2019s getting one heck of an advertisement!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In fact, WEC CEO G\u00e9rard Neveu has said that he considers the safety car \u201cpart of the show.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Will the Panamera Be the Medical Car?<\/h3>\n<p>When Porsche announced last year that it was leaving the WEC, plenty of headlines declared \u201cPorsche fans are devastated\u201d and \u201cShockwaves through the industry.\u201d But now that Porsche is becoming the WEC\u2019s official car supplier, I imagine plenty of fans have found a new reason to tune in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alongside the two safety cars unveiled this time, Porsche will reportedly supply the series with 16 support vehicles in total, including a medical car.<\/strong><br \/>\nAt last year\u2019s WEC, the medical car was a Panamera, and I got so excited that I took loads of photos (see below).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-865 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_2668-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-866 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_2669-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My husband said, <strong>\u201cYou\u2019re the only person taking pictures of the medical car.
