This car stands out notably within the GT3 series.<br \/>\nTo conclude upfront, while it\u2019s not as demanding as the 997 late model GT3, compared to the 996 late model GT3, it feels more rigid in the body and shows clear advancements in performance.<\/p>\n<p>When you get in and start the engine, it\u2019s clear that more attention was paid to the exhaust sound than in the 996 model. The engine fires up with a <strong>bold \u201cZwooon\u201d roar<\/strong>. Compared to the 991 and 992 models, it\u2019s relatively quiet, but you can feel the care given to the startup sound even back then.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2379-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3 meter\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33566\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2361-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3 cockpit\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The clutch is on the heavier side, clearly belonging to the heavier category, though not as heavy as the 997 late model GT3. The shifter is also stiff; according to the owner, it remains hard until the gear oil warms up. You need to consciously apply force to operate it, and it doesn\u2019t have the effortless, sucked-in feel of modern 992 models.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33549\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2410-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ease_of_Handling_at_Low_Speeds\"><\/span>Ease of Handling at Low Speeds<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Starting off requires no particularly difficult maneuvers; just gently engaging the clutch lets you smoothly move forward.<\/p>\n<p>Driving at low speeds is also manageable without special attention. The suspension is firm but reacts to road surface irregularities in a manner typical of a GT3. The test car had old tires, so the ride felt a bit choppy, but with brand-new tires, it would likely be smoother.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33558\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2386-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3 wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lightly flicking the steering left and right at low speeds doesn\u2019t reveal any special responsiveness; it feels natural enough to slalom through cones. Running the engine between 2000 and 3000 rpm doesn\u2019t evoke a special GT3 feeling. However, the engine note isn\u2019t as clear as a 911 Carrera\u2019s, and mechanical noise is more pronounced.<\/p>\n<p>At this rpm range, some might wonder, \u201cIs this what a GT3 is like?\u201d For those not accustomed to keeping the engine revving, it might just feel like a noisy, difficult-to-drive Porsche.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33561\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2376-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3 shifter\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"True_Character_of_the_Engine_and_Handling\"><\/span>True Character of the Engine and Handling<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>However, when you press the accelerator and approach 3500 to 4000 rpm, the car\u2019s true character emerges. The previously rough engine sound transforms into a <strong>wonderful tone as if the engine\u2019s beat aligns perfectly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>At this moment, the car\u2019s personality changes dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>As the engine sound changes, it begins to spin joyfully. The exhaust note sharpens into a crisp \u201cKwaan\u201d sound as the revs climb rapidly through 5000, 6000, 7000, and up to 8000 rpm. You get a sensation of smooth rotation as if there\u2019s no friction at all.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33567\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33567\" class=\"size-large wp-image-33567\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2359-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3 engine\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-33567\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Metzger engine with GT1 crank<\/p><\/div>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33557\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2390-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3 muffler end\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Compared to BMW\u2019s M engines, which feel lighter, the GT3\u2019s engine combines lightness with a powerful rev climb. Just a slight press of the accelerator and running above mid-range rpm completely transforms the car\u2019s character.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s like switching to a sports mode in a modern car. The 997 GT3 does have a sports mode, but even without using it, the car awakens just from how you drive. <strong>This is not electronic control; the car responds to your driving style.<\/strong> This is the <strong>charm of an analog car<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"True_Value_at_High_Speeds_and_the_Art_of_Throttle_Control\"><\/span>True Value at High Speeds and the Art of Throttle Control<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>What\u2019s even more fascinating is how the steering response dramatically changes once you reach a certain speed.<br \/>\nAt low speeds, the steering wasn\u2019t particularly vivid, but as speed increases, the response evolves. This speaks volumes about Porsche\u2019s excellent suspension tuning.<\/p>\n<p>During high-speed cornering, you can freely manipulate weight transfer with throttle control. By pressing or slightly releasing the accelerator, you can control the front end\u2019s direction. This is exactly the feeling of <strong>\u201cturning a Porsche with the throttle.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33551\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2406-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In modern 991 and 992 GT3 models, you need to reach quite high speeds to experience this sensation, but the 997 GT3 lets you feel it at relatively lower speeds. This is a trait for advanced drivers and definitely not a beginner\u2019s car.<\/p>\n<p>The engine power is about 3.6 liters and 415 horsepower, which isn\u2019t exceptionally powerful by today\u2019s standards. However, this power characteristic hits the sweet spot for enjoying the car on public roads. More power would limit how you can enjoy it on regular streets.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33550\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2409-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_33564\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-33564\" class=\"size-large wp-image-33564\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/IMG_2371-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"997GT3\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-33564\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Clubsport Package<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Personally, I have test-driven all the GT3 models in history, and my favorite is the 996 late model GT3. It\u2019s not overly hardcore, nor too soft, and the power is just right. Its balanced nature makes it perfect even for casual touring. The 997 early model GT3 comes next in my preference.<\/p>\n<p>The 997 early model GT3 is a true driver\u2019s car that balances analog feel with high performance.
