\u2460 Two-seater lineup:<\/strong> A few Japanese cars\u2026 Audi TT \u2192 BMW 318i (not a two-seater, though) \u2192 Mercedes-Benz SLK 350 \u2192 Boxster GTS So it\u2019s not just that he changes cars\u2014he owns five at once\u2026 If that theory were true, it would mean he had four women on the side in addition to his wife, and switched between them depending on his mood.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2026Well, that would make him the absolute worst! ( \uff9f\u0434\uff9f )!!!<\/span><\/p>\n But I\u2019ve never seen him act that way, so I can\u2019t imagine my car-loving husband is a womanizer or unfaithful.<\/p>\n So, as the wife of a car enthusiast, I decided to consider \u201cwhat frequent car changes really have to do with being unfaithful and woman-obsessed.\u201d<\/strong> I haven\u2019t collected data or interviewed anyone, though, so this is just my personal theory\u2014take it with a grain of salt.<\/p>\n I think car enthusiasts fall into a few different types. Here\u2019s my chart. I divided car lovers along two axes: \u201ccars as fashion\u201d to \u201ccar nerds\u201d on the vertical axis, and \u201cpractical\u201d to \u201cemotional\u201d on the horizontal axis.<\/strong> That gives us these four types:<\/p>\n \u2460 [Car nerd + practical] = The purist<\/strong> \u2026 They want to drive the car they truly want, without compromise. Before buying, they research everything about it and almost certainly know more about the car than the dealership salesperson. They trust the engineers, so they don\u2019t modify their cars.<\/p>\n \u2461 [Car nerd + emotional] = The customizer<\/strong> \u2026 They want to modify their cars to suit their personal tastes. They\u2019re regulars at Super Autobacs, a large Japanese auto-parts and accessory store. Before they know it, they\u2019ve spent about as much on customizations as they did on the car itself. When inspection time rolls around, they put everything back to stock.<\/p>\n \u2462 [Cars as fashion + practical] = The latest-model fan<\/strong> \u2026 They always want to drive the newest model. They sell before the car loses too much value and trade up to something new. It feels like a bargain because they can get the latest model for a relatively small price difference. They often change cars around the end of their company\u2019s financial year.<\/p>\n \u2463 [Cars as fashion + emotional] = The \u201cLook at me!\u201d type<\/strong> \u2026 They want women to find them attractive. As soon as they buy a car, they take it out to show off. They\u2019ll say, \u201cWant to go for a ride?\u201d with a smug grin. Every time they change cars, they change girlfriends, too.<\/p>\n Of these four types, I\u2019m pretty sure my husband is type \u2460, the purist. My brother is a Subaru enthusiast who modifies his car like crazy, so I\u2019d put him in type \u2461. Types \u2460, \u2461, and \u2462 are all fine\u2014but\u2026<\/p>\n The problem is type \u2463, the \u201cLook at me!\u201d type!<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s the kind of attitude that says, \u201cLook at me\u2014I\u2019m driving a seriously cool imported car! Tell me how amazing I am!\u201d<\/strong> Even if they\u2019re not conscious of it, they have a strong desire to impress women. That means they\u2019re more likely to drive their cars to places where women are\u2014and their chances of meeting women are much higher than those of the other three types.<\/p>\n In sales, people say that results are a product of \u201cquantity \u00d7 quality.\u201d The more potential customers you reach, the more deals you can close. And the better your sales skills, the higher your conversion rate\u2014and the better your results.<\/p>\n So, if we apply that to type \u2463(if that\u2019s a fair comparison!)<\/span><\/p>\n More chances to meet women (quantity) \u00d7 the advantage of owning a luxury imported car (quality) = a revolving door of girlfriends (results)<\/strong><\/p>\n Maybe that\u2019s how it works. Still, people in type \u2463 must be incredibly good at their jobs. If they can afford to keep changing cars, they must be earning pretty well\u2014and successful men are really attractive to women. I bet they\u2019re thoughtful and attentive, too. Well, well.<\/p>\n All in all, I don\u2019t think you can simply say that \u201ccar lovers are womanizers and unfaithful.\u201d So, rather than blindly believing online articles that say things like \u201cmen who love imported cars are womanizers\u201d or \u201cyou shouldn\u2019t marry one,\u201d I think it\u2019s better to see for yourself, get a feel for who they are, and judge their character firsthand.<\/strong><\/p>\n I married a car enthusiast, and sure, there are plenty of times when I think, \u201cThis guy is nuts!\u201d (lol). But he\u2019s also opened up a whole new world to me and made my life richer, so I\u2019m glad I married him. (Though I can\u2019t deny that cars take up a big share of our household budget.)<\/span><\/p>\n Anyway\u2026 back to work.
