Then, after a few months, I finally got behind the wheel for the first time last week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1228 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_4630-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In an old issue of Car Graphic, the SL500 was praised to the skies under the headline <strong>\u201cYou Should Be Impressed.\u201d<\/strong> After driving it myself, I started to understand why it\u2019s considered such a classic. <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Though my eldest daughter came along, so it was only about a 30-minute drive around town.)<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">First Impressions<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">1) A Solid, Substantial Feel<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1233 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_4629-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was surprised as soon as I opened the door: it was incredibly heavy. It shut with a solid clunk, giving the impression of a sturdy, well-built car.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4a\">2) Seats Like Leather Sofas<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1232 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_0006-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Porsche seats feel sporty\u2014they put you upright, hands firmly on the wheel, ready to drive. The SL\u2019s seats, on the other hand, are more like leather sofas. <strong>They\u2019re so spacious and comfortable, you almost want to sit in them and watch TV in your living room.<\/strong> Apparently, it\u2019s best to recline them a little more than you would in a Porsche.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">3) A Smooth, Supple Ride<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1230 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_4632-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My husband often describes the ride as \u201csupple,\u201d and now I understand what he means. A Porsche feels comparatively crisp, while the SL500 feels smooth and plush\u2014almost as if the tires had been rubbed with lotion\u2026 <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(I can\u2019t think of a better way to describe it, lol.)<\/span> It feels like a car made for grown-up comfort.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">4) A Relaxed Driving Experience<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1234 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_0029-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I never once felt like flooring it and charging ahead. Instead, I wanted to drive slowly and gracefully. <strong>I felt a little like the chairman of some company.<\/strong> At one point, though, I realized I was crawling along a main road at just 40 km\/h, so I gave the accelerator a little more encouragement.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">5) Steering That Felt a Little Unsettling in Turns<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1231 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/IMG_0030-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This was probably because I was taking the turns too slowly, but the steering wheel didn\u2019t seem to return to center easily after a turn. I found myself fumbling to bring it back around.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">The SL Has Another Mishap\u2026<\/h3>\n<p>I still haven\u2019t driven it with the top down, on the highway, or along the Royu Driveway, so I\u2019d love to take it out again when I get the chance. But yesterday, while my husband was driving the SL on the Royu Driveway, <strong>the turn signal apparently came crashing off, shattering its plastic parts along the way ( \uff9f\u0434\uff9f )<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Wait, can a turn signal actually fall off!? So the car is grounded until we can install a replacement.
