The interior is a terracotta leather, a reddish-orange hue reminiscent of the Carrera GT\u2014truly stunning. Both exterior and interior are in excellent condition, with only about 40,000 kilometers on the clock. <strong>This is a superb 2001 Boxster S model paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33039\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_1972-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"986 Boxster S interior\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When the 986 Boxster first appeared, I had the impression it was \u201ctoo rounded and not very Porsche-like,\u201d but seeing it now, the blend of old and new design elements is masterful and very cool. Especially the headlights, once mocked as \u201ctear-shaped,\u201d now look like a wonderful fusion of classic and modern design through today\u2019s eyes.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps it\u2019s only now that this design\u2019s true value is being recognized. The 996 911 is similar\u2014designs that once felt odd now carry a unique charm. I\u2019ve driven the 981 and 718 Boxsters many times, but I was excited to experience this foundational model firsthand.<\/p>\n<p>Sitting in the seat, the soft, Porsche-typical cushioning embraces you. <strong>It looks like it would be comfortable even on long drives.<\/strong> While the seat\u2019s hold isn\u2019t as firm as current models, it still provides ample support.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33040\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_1971-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"986 Boxster S interior\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33041\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_1970-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"986 Boxster S shift lever\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The engine start-up is noticeably quieter compared to modern Porsches.<\/strong> Still, the flat-six engine\u2019s distinctive, pleasant sound remains. The clutch is heavier than today\u2019s cars but not uncomfortably so. <strong>The shift feel has just the right weight and rigidity\u2014this is what a manual should feel like.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Engaging first gear and pressing the accelerator, the clutch engages smoothly, and the start is seamless. As you open the throttle, the revs climb smoothly. You can feel the direct connection between throttle input and engine response.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_Driving_Experience_Full_of_Analog_Charm\"><\/span>A Driving Experience Full of Analog Charm<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Once underway, there\u2019s no sense of lacking power. The 252 horsepower is fully on display as you push through winding roads. What\u2019s at work here is a chassis that doesn\u2019t rely on electronic aids but has excellent natural qualities.<\/p>\n<p>Turn the steering wheel, and the car changes direction with a moderate roll. The mid-engine layout delivers natural cornering ability, with body roll stopping at just the right point, allowing you to exit corners confidently without any unease.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33045\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_1965-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"986 Boxster S wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Like a relaxed athlete, it offers just the right softness while delivering sharp handling. <strong>Even the 981 GTS feels stiff compared to the 986.<\/strong> Honestly, moving from the 986 to the 981 GTS feels almost like stepping into a GT3. That\u2019s how special the 986\u2019s suppleness is.<\/p>\n<p>The steering delivers road feedback directly. The grip limits are easy to sense, creating a strong sense of unity with the car. <strong>Weight transfer through throttle control is exactly as the driver intends.<\/strong> This is the pure analog driving feel where driver and car become one.<\/p>\n<p>The engine sound is quiet but occasionally emits a pleasant \u201ccone\u201d tone. It\u2019s not loud but has excellent sound quality. Unlike recent Porsches, there\u2019s no electronic enhancement\u2014just the engine\u2019s natural voice transmitted directly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33042\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_1969-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"986 Boxster S gauges\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Above 4000 rpm, the engine\u2019s sweet voice fills the cabin. Revving to the redline raises the volume slightly, but it\u2019s never intrusive. Instead, it\u2019s pleasant and boosts your driving motivation.<\/p>\n<p>The brakes are excellent. Pressing the pedal reliably reduces speed. The car remains stable under braking, giving the driver confidence.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"This_Is_the_Real_Porsche\"><\/span>This Is the Real Porsche<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><strong>The 986 Boxster is a car that makes you want to say, \u201cThis is just right.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A chassis with minimal electronic intervention and strong analog character, the pleasant sound of a six-cylinder engine, and the joy of a manual gearbox. I wasn\u2019t racing down Venus Line in Nagano; instead, I wanted to keep driving slowly, feeling the engine\u2019s vibrations. That\u2019s the charm of the 986 Boxster.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-33038\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/IMG_1978-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"986 Boxster S\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Modern Porsches are wonderful, but this 986 model, which can be called the origin of driving pleasure, is special.
