A Cafe That\u2019s a Mecca for Car Lovers<\/h3>\n

Just before lunch today, my husband asked, \u201cThere\u2019s a custom leather driving-glove shop setting up at Cafe Seven\u2014a cafe that\u2019s a mecca for car lovers\u2014just for this weekend. Want to go?\u201d<\/strong> (This is what he meant\u2193)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cCafe Seven is in Tsukigase, so we can enjoy a drive around the area, too. We can even take the Nara N\u00fcrburgring route (a road nicknamed after Germany\u2019s N\u00fcrburgring)<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hmm\u2026 We\u2019d have to shop for lunch, get the girls ready, and then hit the road, which would take a while. But the weather was beautiful, so I said, \u201cAll right, let\u2019s go!\u201d We got ready as quickly as we could and set off just after 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

Since we were making the trip (why not?), we took both the Boxster and the Panamera.<\/p>\n

Using FaceTime as a Walkie-Talkie<\/h3>\n

\u201cThis is a good time to use FaceTime. If we stay on a call while we drive, it works like a walkie-talkie.\u201d<\/strong> So we plugged our phones into the car chargers and started a FaceTime call with each other.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It turned out to be pretty handy. We could check in with each other along the way, saying things like, \u201cLet\u2019s stop for gas,\u201d<\/strong> or \u201cTurn left at the next light.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"(It was fun getting to watch the Boxster\u2019s top open from directly behind it, too! haha)
\n<\/span>
\nI never realized FaceTime could be used this way\u2014it was so convenient. We did lose the signal twice in areas of the mountain road with no reception, but otherwise, it worked without a hitch.<\/p>\n

At Last, Cafe Seven<\/h3>\n

Traffic on the Hanshin Expressway slowed us down, but we arrived in just under two hours from home.<\/p>\n

\n(It\u2019s about a kilometer from Tsukigase Station on the JR line.)<\/span><\/p>\n

There were a few narrow stretches along the way, but the road was plenty wide enough for the Panamera. When we arrived, the place was packed. It really did feel like a mecca for car lovers\u2014and there were sports cars everywhere.

\n\"\"<\/p>\n

I took lots of Porsche photos, so I\u2019ll share them on the blog in a later post, along with a look at the cars that showed up.<\/p>\n

Inside the Cafe<\/h3>\n

Here\u2019s what the entrance looked like:<\/p>\n

A friendly staff member showed us to our seats. Bringing the kids along didn\u2019t seem to be a problem at all. What\u2019s more, juice was free for children (I can\u2019t remember the age limit\u2026)<\/span>, so my daughter ordered orange juice.<\/strong> Each table also had a sheet like this:

\nThat\u2019s impressive\u2014it must have built its following through word of mouth and social media. Cameras and car magazines were stylishly arranged beside the tables.

\n\"\"<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The cafe also sold pin badges, miniature cars, stickers, and other goods. For some reason, the girls absolutely loved the Volkswagen pin badges and bought some. haha<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The Main Reason for Our Visit<\/h3>\n

After taking a break at the cafe, it was time for the main event: shopping for leather driving gloves. The CACAZAN<\/a> booth was set up at the back of the grounds.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There were lots of styles to choose from, and the staff seemed happy to offer thoughtful advice. One thing they told my husband was that before ordering custom leather gloves, it\u2019s worth doing some research and deciding on the design you want.<\/strong> What color should the stitching be? Velcro or buttons? They suggested trying a ready-made pair and looking at other options before placing a custom order. So he bought a pair to try out first.<\/p>\n

After driving in them, he said, \u201cThey fit the steering wheel well, and my hand doesn\u2019t slip when I\u2019m holding the gear lever. They\u2019re pretty good.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Home via the Nara N\u00fcrburgring Route<\/h3>\n

On the way home, we took the road known as the Nara N\u00fcrburgring route. Driving it in Sport mode was a real pleasure\u2014the road was in great condition, too. When I looked back, the girls were completely out cold. haha<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There must be plenty more great roads to discover in Kansai. I\u2019d love to go back. As for my own souvenir, I picked up a Porsche pin badge.<\/p>\n

\"\"
\n(It looks a little fake, somehow, haha.)<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s cute, so I\u2019m going to put it on my bag right away.<\/p>\n

After we got home, I looked up Cafe Seven and found its Facebook page:

If you\u2019re in the Kansai area, I\u2019d recommend stopping by. It\u2019s a fun place to see all kinds of sports cars and supercars.<\/p>\n
