The app lets you explore Porsche\u2019s appeal through videos about the marque\u2019s history and character, sports exhaust sounds, games, wallpapers, and 360-degree panoramic VR experiences. It first launched in Germany in 2017 and has earned international design accolades, including the Red Dot Design Award.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis sounds fun!\u201d I thought, and quickly installed it on my phone.<\/p>\n

Eager to Try It, I Search the App Store!<\/h3>\n

I searched the iPhone App Store right away and found Porsche Individuality!<\/strong><\/p>\n

It says the app is available in \u201cGerman, British, Spanish, French, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese.\u201d<\/strong> \u2026But,<\/p>\n

\u201cBritish\u201d means English, right? (-_-)?<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe something went wrong in the Japanese translation\u2026 Slightly concerned, I read the app\u2019s full description.<\/p>\n

The more I read, the less sense it made.<\/p>\n

Maybe it was translated with Google Translate\u2026 And the repeated use of \u201cindividualization\u201d\u2014a word you don\u2019t hear much in everyday Japanese\u2014felt especially awkward (laughs).<\/strong> Also, English copy often ends with \u201cThank you,\u201d but does a Japanese translation really need to say \u201cThank you\u201d at the end?<\/p>\n

I opened the app, and this was the first screen that appeared.

I tapped \u201cExclusive Manufaktur\u201d at the top, and this screen appeared.<\/p>\n

\nHmm\u2026 Compared with the app description, at least I can sort of understand what it\u2019s getting at (laughs).

\nIs it saying, \u201cLet\u2019s go back to the early days, when cars first became available to buy and ordinary people could own one\u201d?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Scrolling brought up this screen.<\/p>\n

Oh! Alongside a famous quote from Ferdinand Porsche, it shows the models Porsche has introduced\u2014from the original 356 to the present day\u2014and traces the company\u2019s history.<\/strong>
\nHere\u2019s how it introduces the Panamera, for example.<\/p>\n

This is pretty interesting, and I think it\u2019s a great way to learn about Porsche\u2019s history and the cars it has developed over the years. Next up was this screen.<\/p>\n

Is it asking when I finally got the Porsche I\u2019d dreamed about for years? \u2026No, that doesn\u2019t feel quite right. I gathered myself and tapped \u201cStart Memory,\u201d which brought up this screen.<\/p>\n

Wait, a quiz already!?\uff9f(\uff9f\uff21\uff9f;)<\/span><\/p>\n

There was a \u201cResults\u201d button in the top-right corner, so I braced myself and started answering, wondering if I\u2019d get a Porsche trivia grade or something. I managed to answer the first few, but\u2026<\/p>\n

I couldn\u2019t figure out the last two. \u201cI\u2019ll take a wild guess!\u201d I thought, and tried\u2026<\/p>\n

Aww, wrong! (*_*)<\/p>\n

Even if you get every answer right, nothing much happens. The quiz just keeps showing you different Porsche models and asking you to match them with photos. My husband\u2014and other Porsche fans\u2014would probably find it a piece of cake.<\/p>\n

After trying Porsche Individuality, my takeaway is:<\/p>\n

\u201cExplore the app first to learn about Porsche, then use the configurator to spec a car that\u2019s even more your style.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

It brings together a lot of information about Porsche, so it\u2019s a great way to get to know the brand. I\u2019d love to see more about racing, too. And if the content is updated regularly, I can see myself dipping into the app from time to time when I have a few spare minutes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

One more thing: if you\u2019re going to use the app, a tablet might be easier than a phone.<\/p>\n
