When to Wash the Panamera<\/h3>\n

Alright, tomorrow we\u2019re finally heading to the Porsche Experience Day<\/strong> at Fuji Speedway! So, for the past few days, my husband and I have been debating when to wash the Panamera<\/strong> while checking the weather forecast. <\/p>\n

Husband: \u201cThe best would be to wash it on Friday, but since it\u2019s supposed to rain on Friday<\/strong>, maybe wash it on Thursday instead.\u201d<\/em>
\nMe: \u201cBut on Friday, we\u2019ll be using the car for our daughter\u2019s dentist appointment and daycare, so it\u2019ll get dirty again.\u201d
\nHusband: \u201cBut since the rain is forecasted for after noon on Friday, maybe I should drive the Panamera to work on Friday, and if it pours on the way back, it might actually get cleaner. Although, the wheels might get dirty again.\u201d<\/em>
\nMe: \u201cBut since Saturday<\/strong> is rainy anyway, it\u2019ll just get dirty again no matter what.\u201d<\/p>\n

After all that, my husband ended up driving the Panamera to work yesterday and washed it by hand on the way home.<\/p>\n

Three Golden Rules for Driving Today<\/h3>\n

That said, since it was raining this morning, my husband reminded me of a few things before leaving for work: <\/p>\n

Listen carefully, for today\u2019s driving:
\n\u2460 Keep plenty of distance from the car ahead to avoid splashes
\n\u2461 Always avoid puddles
\n\u2462 Drive slowly to minimize water splashes
\nIf you follow these, the wheels won\u2019t get dirty easily, and if the body gets a bit dirty, it\u2019s manageable!<\/p>\n

\u2026O-okay.<\/span><\/p>\n

I followed his instructions, so for now, the wheels are still clean (laughs).<\/p>\n

What\u2019s the Panamera\u2019s Cumulative Fuel Efficiency Since Delivery?<\/h3>\n

Before heading to Fuji, I decided to check the current fuel efficiency and mileage of the Panamera. Switching the meter display to \u201ccumulative\u201d<\/strong> shows the total fuel efficiency since delivery (which I hadn\u2019t known until now)<\/span>. According to that: <\/p>\n

\u2022 Delivery date: October 12, 2017 (about 8 months ago)
\n\u2022 Driving time: 247:36 hours
\n\u2022 Distance: 8,791.0 km
\n\u2022 Cumulative average: 14.2 l\/100 km
\n\u2022 Average speed: 37 km\/h<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a tricky part\u2026 seeing this fuel efficiency, you might want to jump for joy thinking \u201c14 km\/l average fuel efficiency? That\u2019s amazing!\u201d<\/strong> \u2014 I used to think that too. But, <\/p>\n

Our Panamera\u2019s meter is set by my husband to display \u201cliters used per 100 km (l\/100 km)\u201d instead of \u201ckilometers per liter (km\/l)\u201d<\/strong> (which is common in Europe)<\/span>. When recalculated into the Japanese standard, it\u2019s actually\u2026 <\/p>\n

7.0 km\/l.<\/span> <\/p>\n

Not exactly great (-_-)<\/span><\/span>. But according to the catalog: <\/p>\n

\u2022 Overall average: 10.6 km\/l (9.4 \u2013 9.3 l\/100 km)
\n\u2022 City driving: 7.7 km\/l (12.9 \u2013 12.8 l\/100 km)
\n\u2022 100 km\/h cruising: 13.6 km\/l (7.3 \u2013 7.2 l\/100 km)
\n*Mountain roads: 5.3 km\/l \u2192 Not in the catalog, but from Car Graphic\u2019s research<\/p>\n

Considering that I mostly drive in city traffic with lots of stoplights and congestion, and my husband often drives spiritedly on mountain roads like the Royu Driveway<\/strong>, this figure seems reasonable.<\/p>\n

The Panamera Turbo\u2019s Fuel Efficiency Isn\u2019t That Bad<\/h3>\n

When I told my husband, \u201cThe Panamera Turbo\u2019s fuel efficiency is really bad!\u201d he said: <\/p>\n

But for a 2-ton giant with a 4L V8 twin-turbo (550 hp), this fuel efficiency is actually pretty good compared to other manufacturers.<\/p>\n

I see. So I decided to compare the Panamera Turbo\u2019s fuel efficiency with similar engine models from Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and BMW<\/strong>. Since I wanted real-world data rather than catalog numbers, I looked up test drives and personal blogs from automotive media. <\/p>\n

Here are the results: <\/p>\n

I was hoping to find that \u201cthe Panamera Turbo has better fuel efficiency than other brands!\u201d<\/strong>, but honestly, I can\u2019t see a clear difference. In fact, some other brands have better numbers. <\/p>\n

To be honest, I\u2019m not very familiar with cars from manufacturers other than Porsche, so I\u2019m not even sure if this was the right comparison (lol).<\/p>\n

Porsche\u2019s Real-World Numbers Often Beat the Catalog<\/h3>\n

One thing I can say for sure: when you actually drive a Porsche, you almost always get better numbers than the catalog states. Car Graphic once did a thorough test, and even under pretty bad conditions, the results were better than the catalog. <\/p>\n
