Finally, Heading to Fuji Speedway<\/h3>\n

Today is the long-awaited first day of the \u201cPorsche Experience Day\u201d<\/a>. It\u2019s a two-day event over the weekend, but we decided to participate tomorrow, the 17th. However, since bringing along our 4-year-old and 1-year-old was expected to be incredibly challenging, we woke up at 5 a.m. this morning to drop the girls off at my parents\u2019 house first. Both my husband and I packed our Porsche backpacks with our gear,<\/p>\n

\u2026okay, maybe we\u2019re a bit too enthusiastic as a couple (-_-)<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Gas tank full, car washed and sparkling, engine oil level checked and perfect\u2014so, off we go!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Departing in the Panamera Under Clear Skies<\/h3>\n

The weather in Kansai today was beautifully clear and sunny.<\/p>\n

\"\"

Actually, we went to Fuji Speedway last October to watch the WEC, but the race was red-flagged and then canceled due to thick fog, and we couldn\u2019t really enjoy the Hakone Turnpike either because of the fog\u2014plus, we didn\u2019t see Mt. Fuji at all\u2026<\/strong> So today, we were really looking forward to a rematch and set off with high hopes.<\/p>\n

After dropping the girls off at my parents\u2019, we headed straight for the Hakone Turnpike, but\u2026 although the skies were clear up to a point, after passing Hamamatsu, the clouds started to look ominous.<\/p>\n

Uh-oh, this pattern is really bad\u2026 (-_-)<\/p>\n

And sure enough, as we approached the entrance to the Hakone Turnpike, thick fog had settled in.<\/p>\n

I knew it\u2026 (crying) My husband said to me with an exasperated look,<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy does it always turn out like this when we come together? When I go touring alone, I almost never get such bad weather.\u201d<\/p>\n

I had no comeback\u2026 sorry.<\/p>\n

We had traveled all the way from Kansai, taking six hours, but it couldn\u2019t be helped. Even if we drove to the top of the Hakone Turnpike, the thick fog would prevent us from enjoying the drive, so we decided to look for another driveway. While checking live footage of various driveways, my husband said, \u201cThe Nishi-Izu Skyline still looks okay!\u201d<\/strong> So we quickly changed course and headed south.<\/p>\n

Nishi-Izu Skyline<\/h3>\n

On the way to the Nishi-Izu Skyline, my husband said,<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Nishi-Izu Skyline is my favorite road of all the ones I\u2019ve driven. I don\u2019t care if it\u2019s not sunny, I just want to be able to enjoy the scenery while driving.\u201d<\/p>\n

Is that so? It must be a really beautiful road. Please, I\u2019m not asking for sunshine\u2014just clear visibility, please\u2026<\/p>\n

After about an hour of driving with a half-praying heart, the weather held at the foot of the mountain, but as we gained altitude, the atmosphere grew increasingly ominous.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This is bad\u2026 really bad\u2026 and one minute later, this happened.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Noooooooom! (Thick fog)<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2026We couldn\u2019t see even one meter ahead.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

We barely managed to spot the \u201cP\u201d parking sign and pulled over, but my husband was beyond exasperated\u2014he was laughing. Then he said,<\/p>\n

\u201cCome to think of it\u2026 when we traveled to Germany, we couldn\u2019t see Neuschwanstein Castle because of thick fog; at Aoyama Plateau, it was foggy and unclear; last year\u2019s WEC was canceled due to fog; and we\u2019ve been to see the aurora twice and missed it both times. And now this thick fog again today\u2026 you\u2019re not just a rain woman, you\u2019re a fog woman!!<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n

He\u2019s absolutely right. I\u2019m not just a rain woman\u2014I\u2019m a \u201cfog woman.\u201d Then he added,<\/p>\n

\u201cSeriously, it\u2019s like we\u2019re under a \u2018Manusa\u2019 curse! It can\u2019t be anything else, lol!
\n*Manusa: A defensive spell from the Dragon Quest series that envelops an enemy group in illusions, lowering their hit rate.<\/span><\/p>\n

We had no idea what \u201cManusa<\/strong>\u201d was, but we burst out laughing and couldn\u2019t stop. In a good way, we accepted defeat and decided to stop driving and head to the hotel.<\/p>\n

Joining the Porsche Parade Run!<\/h3>\n

We\u2019re heading home on Monday the 18th, but since the 919 Hybrid Tribute will be running exclusively on the Hakone Turnpike, we can\u2019t drive there anymore (and heavy rain is forecast for Monday)<\/span>. Plus, if we miss out on the first-come, first-served 70-person circuit parade run tomorrow, we won\u2019t know why we even came. So, we plan to arrive at Fuji Speedway by 7 a.m. tomorrow and definitely be among the first 70 participants!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Alright! (\uff9f\u2200\uff9f)<\/span><\/p>\n

But on the bright side, the fog gave us some fantastic shots of the Panamera.<\/p>\n
