The 981 behaves similarly in this regard, but the speed and precision of the response surpass the 981.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32285\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_9873-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman T\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Both front and rear tires grip the road firmly, with very little slip. If you install the 718\u2019s lateral member on the rear of a 981, the rear\u2019s grip feels closer to the 718\u2019s, but there\u2019s still a noticeable difference in front-end road contact and chassis rigidity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The 718 Cayman T features PASM Sport, so its suspension performance is significantly enhanced.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Compared to the 992 Carrera T, simply in terms of how enjoyable the cornering feels, I personally find the 718 Cayman T more satisfying. The 992 Carrera T also corners wonderfully and, thanks to its rear axle, handles somewhat like a mid-engine car, but the genuine mid-engine layout is on another level.<\/p>\n<p>That said, there are things the 992 Carrera T has that the 718 doesn\u2019t. I\u2019d like to call it a sense of <strong>solidity<\/strong>, but it\u2019s not something that can be summed up with just that word. It\u2019s more like the difference you feel when comparing a regular Carrera to a Turbo S. When you compare the Cayman T and Carrera T, the Carrera T has a quality that even feels as rich as a Turbo S.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32298\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_9916-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman T\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Exceptionally_Nimble_Handling\"><\/span>Exceptionally Nimble Handling<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I once had a 987 Cayman owner ride it, and they kept saying, &#8220;<strong>It\u2019s so light and fun!<\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Just as they said, the 718 Cayman T drives very nimbly. Its weight is almost the same as the base Cayman, but the T feels much lighter. <strong>This is similar to the relationship between the 992 Carrera and Carrera T\u2014\u2018T\u2019 models have their own unique tuning, which is clearly noticeable.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On winding roads, it feels quite light on its feet. That \u2018lightness\u2019 is by no means cheap-feeling; imagine a muscular, lean athlete who\u2019s shed weight. It\u2019s not just a thin, light body.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32196\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32196\" class=\"size-large wp-image-32196\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_9346-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche Cayman (987) and Cayman T (718)\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32196\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cayman (987) and 718 Cayman T<\/p><\/div>\n<p>So, despite being light, there\u2019s absolutely no sense of insecurity. There\u2019s no lag in steering response, and the road feedback through the steering is very clear. This is the brilliance of Porsche\u2019s tuning, and very few other manufacturers can express this kind of \u201cfeel-good\u201d sensation in their cars.<\/p>\n<p>With the 911, you often drive while consciously loading the front wheels, but with the 718, you can drive as if applying load separately to each of the four wheels. I think this feeling comes from the moderate body roll and the mid-engine layout.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, I rarely use Sport Plus mode in the 718 Cayman T. Even without switching PASM to Sport or using Sport Plus, it\u2019s more than enough to drive at a brisk pace on winding roads. In fact, Sport mode is just right for regular roads. Sport Plus seems better suited for smoother surfaces like racetracks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32302\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/DSC05183-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Driving the 718 Cayman T\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Also_a_High-Speed_Touring_Machine\"><\/span>Also a High-Speed Touring Machine<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Since its launch, I\u2019ve written several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/tag\/718\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">articles<\/a> about the 718\u2019s excellent high-speed stability on highways.<\/p>\n<p>Among them, I\u2019d say the Cayman T\u2019s high-speed stability and comfort are quite impressive.<br \/>\nAt first, since it has PASM Sport, I expected a stiffer, somewhat bouncy ride, but that\u2019s not the case at all.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Cayman T offers a comfortable ride even in city driving, but on the highway, it\u2019s even smoother.<\/strong><br \/>\nIt glides flatly, and you can tell the precision craftsmanship of its moving parts. This kind of feel is the polar opposite of Japanese sports cars.<\/p>\n<p>Its stability is more than sufficient. Although the engine noise is somewhat loud, it doesn\u2019t have the sluggishness of European SUVs or saloons, and aside from the noise, you hardly feel the speed. Sometimes when you press the accelerator hard to accelerate, the difference between the expected speed and the speedometer reading is so large it surprises you.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32299\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/IMG_9915-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman T\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Besides its excellent high-speed stability, its straight-line stability is outstanding. Despite being mid-engine, it shoots forward like an arrow. Why can\u2019t other manufacturers\u2019 mid-engine cars do this? You can lightly rest your hand on the steering and cruise with complete peace of mind.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it excels on Japan\u2019s winding highways.<br \/>\nThe Chugoku Expressway west of Okayama, with its steep ups and downs and tight-radius corners, is like a fish in water.<br \/>\nWith ample power, superb stability, and controllable handling, you can drive comfortably and confidently.
