It\u2019s scary how much you don\u2019t know\u2026 though maybe that can be a strength, too. lol<\/strong><\/p>\nI wanted to create something people would actually read, even as a newcomer to the blogging scene. But with so much great content already out there\u2014from professional automotive journalists and well-known car bloggers to major automotive media outlets\u2014who was going to pay attention to a blog written by an ordinary mom who knew next to nothing about cars?<\/p>\n
I decided to keep writing for at least three months, and posted every day. I tried to improve my headlines and writing in my own way, but my traffic just wouldn\u2019t budge.<\/p>\n
Then, after about three months, I hit on an idea.<\/p>\n
After trying all sorts of things, I decided to make the blog a story about an ordinary mom working toward buying a Porsche with her own money<\/strong>.<\/p>\nI might not know much about cars yet, I thought, but if I shared my day-to-day efforts to reach that goal\u2014and learned about cars from my husband along the way\u2014maybe more people would take an interest.<\/p>\n
So I changed the blog\u2019s title to \u201cUntil the Day I Buy a Porsche With My Own Money.\u201d<\/strong> (The current title, \u201cWelcome Home, PORSCHE,\u201d came along in April 2018.) After that, traffic grew and more people started cheering me on. My husband and I began working toward the goal together, and the blog eventually became one of Japan\u2019s most-read independent car blogs.<\/p>\nMaybe it was a case of finding a strategy that worked for the underdog\u2014or maybe I was simply lucky. Either way, learning firsthand that a newcomer\u2019s blog can succeed with the right approach<\/strong> was a huge takeaway for me.<\/p>\n<\/span>Opportunity Doesn\u2019t Wait Until You\u2019re Ready<\/span><\/h3>\nStill, the road to buying a Porsche with my own money<\/strong> was far from smooth, and there was no easy shortcut.<\/p>\nMy husband would say things like, \u201cIf you really wanted a Porsche, you\u2019d take a serious look at how to earn the money for one.\u201d<\/strong> That made me reflect: \u201cMaybe I\u2019m not committed enough yet.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\nAt other times, I\u2019d feel frustrated and think, \u201cOnce the kids are a little older, I\u2019ll be able to devote more time to work, too!\u201d<\/strong> That feeling lingered for a long time.<\/p>\nLooking back on how I was able to reach my goal and buy a Porsche with my own money in May 2023, I think two things made the difference:<\/p>\n
\u201cBuild confidence by achieving smaller goals first.\u201d<\/strong>
\u201cWhen an opportunity finally comes along, take it\u2014even if you\u2019re not perfectly prepared.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\nIn my case, buying a Porsche right away simply wasn\u2019t realistic. So I started with a used BMW 320i with a manual transmission, which cost \u00a52.3 million. Even that took the kind of courage it would take to leap from the stage at Kiyomizu Temple\u2014a Japanese expression for making a daunting decision.<\/p>\n

After I had a child, I sold the 320i. About a year later, I bought a brand-new Suzuki Swift Sport for \u00a52.2 million.<\/p>\n
At the time, a new car felt like something far beyond my reach, so that took courage, too.<\/p>\n
