It is a designation given to vehicles that have passed rigorous testing and development at the N\u00fcrburgring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32172\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8868-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris GRMN emblem\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32164\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32164\" class=\"size-large wp-image-32164\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8888-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Morizo signature\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32164\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Signature of Morizo (current Toyota chairman)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>GRMN stands for &#8220;<strong>Gazoo Racing Meister of N\u00fcrburgring<\/strong>,&#8221; representing some of the highest-performing Toyota vehicles.<br \/>The engine, suspension, and weight reduction are all tuned to competition-level standards. <strong>You can think of it as the equivalent of Porsche\u2019s &#8220;RS&#8221; models.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_the_GRMN_Yaris\"><\/span>What is the GRMN Yaris?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Now, the GRMN Yaris. This car is in a league of its own compared to a regular Yaris.<br \/>The model I tested is the <strong>&#8220;GRMN YARIS CIRCUIT PKG.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It comes fitted with 235\/40R18 tires (Yokohama ADVAN A052) mounted on 18-inch BBS forged 8.5J aluminum wheels exclusive to the GRMN.<br \/>Additionally, it features Bilstein adjustable dampers exclusive to the &#8220;Circuit package.&#8221; This model, reborn under GAZOO Racing\u2019s guidance, shows its true value not just on city streets but especially on the track.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32170\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8872-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris tires\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32166\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8880-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The engine is a 3-cylinder inline intercooler turbo, boasting 200 kW (272 ps) at 6,500 rpm and 390 Nm (39.8 kgf\u00b7m) between 3,200 and 4,000 rpm.<br \/>The dedication to performance is evident in the GRMN Yaris\u2019s exclusive features: Recaro full bucket seats, body reinforcement braces, twill-weave CFRP (carbon) parts, GR mechanical LSD, GR reinforced metal clutch &#038; clutch cover set, plus the GR cross transmission &#038; low final gear. It\u2019s a car tuned by Toyota from the ground up.<\/p>\n<p>The exterior is aggressive, fully embodying the aura of a sports car.<\/p>\n<p>But it\u2019s not just cosmetic upgrades. <strong>Weight reduction, improved aerodynamics, and an interior designed to maximize driving pleasure.<\/strong> The GRMN Yaris is a special breed, completely different from a standard Yaris.<br \/>As a Porsche driver, I couldn\u2019t ignore its appeal. So I started the engine and got in.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First_Impressions_of_the_GRMN_Yaris\"><\/span>First Impressions of the GRMN Yaris<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>First, I opened the door to get in.<\/p>\n<p>At this point, I honestly felt a bit disappointed. &#8220;<strong>Ah, so this is how it is&#8230;<\/strong>&#8221; I thought.<br \/>The door felt light and thin with no sense of rigidity. I worried if such a cheap-feeling door could deliver the solidity and driving quality expected.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32177\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8858-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris interior\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As I tried to get in, the bucket seat with large side supports radiated an aura that this was no ordinary car.<br \/>I carefully sat down to avoid rubbing against the seat.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Recaro seats are excellent.<\/strong> They fit the body very well.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32176\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8859-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris seat\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The interior feels very plain. It\u2019s full of plastic and doesn\u2019t look like a car costing over 8 million yen.<br \/>But for this car, that\u2019s a minor issue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When starting the engine, the sound is louder than a regular Yaris but still very quiet compared to European sports cars in general.<\/strong><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32174\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32174\" class=\"size-large wp-image-32174\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8861-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris rear\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32174\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">No rear seats. Instead, reinforced with a roll bar.<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Once_You_Start_Driving%E2%80%A6\"><\/span>Once You Start Driving&#8230;<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The clutch is on the lighter side but <strong>still slightly heavier than in the 992 or 718.<\/strong><br \/>At low speeds, a rattling mechanical noise is audible. From this point, you can tell this is no ordinary car.<\/p>\n<p>The suspension moves well even at low speeds. It\u2019s unfair to compare due to the price difference, but even within the GR lineup, it\u2019s worlds apart from the GR86.<br \/>Every tiny input is absorbed by dampers with very low friction moving up and down, smoothing out vibrations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For such a serious sports car, the ride comfort is actually quite good.<\/strong> Of course, the suspension is stiff and the stroke short, so there is some body movement, but no lingering shakes or unpleasant jolts.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32175\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8860-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris gauges\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Still in break-in, I kept the revs low and focused on handling, and couldn\u2019t help but grin at its athleticism.<br \/>Far from the typical Toyota image, the suspension moves well, and the tire contact and grip in corners are superb.<\/p>\n<p>The short wheelbase adds to the nimbleness, allowing it to turn sharply. For a moment, I almost forgot this car is all-wheel drive and found myself wanting to push harder through curves.<br \/>The more you push, the more it turns, and the limits would be impossible to find on public roads.<\/p>\n<p>While power and limits differ, when driving gently, the feel is similar to the ZC33S Swift Sport (with lowered suspension) I once had at home.<br \/>The sensation of tossing around a compact, light body is unique to this size.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_32162\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-32162\" class=\"size-large wp-image-32162\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8887-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris rear spoiler\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-32162\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Carbon fiber rear spoiler<\/p><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Is_This_Toyotas_GT3_or_Rather_a_Cup_Car\"><\/span>Is This Toyota\u2019s GT3, or Rather a Cup Car?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As I got more comfortable driving, I increasingly felt the car\u2019s rigidity and excellent suspension.<\/p>\n<p>The engine power and torque delivery are perfect. However, the sound is not sensual and doesn\u2019t raise adrenaline much.<\/p>\n<p><strong>You can confidently push it, it turns astonishingly well, and there\u2019s no disconnect between the driver\u2019s intended line and the car\u2019s path.<\/strong><br \/>The faster you go, the more it feels like you\u2019re driving a car one or two classes above.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32171\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8869-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At first, I thought it was like Porsche\u2019s 991 or 992 GT3,<br \/>but after driving it, I felt it was closer in spirit to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/964cup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">964 Cup Car<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/997-gt3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">997 GT3<\/a> I had driven before.<\/p>\n<p>Its Spartan nature, which rejects half-hearted drivers, shows through here and there.<br \/>The car responds very faithfully to the driver\u2019s steering and throttle inputs.<br \/>Unlike many modern cars that rely heavily on electronic controls, this car retains a strong analog feel, much like GT3s before the 997 generation.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Overall_Impression\"><\/span>Overall Impression<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>While it has enough versatility to enjoy winding roads on weekends, it\u2019s impossible to fully evaluate its limits or specs on public roads.<br \/>Its <strong>potential is so high that mastering it truly requires considerable skill.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For those who buy it, I highly recommend trying it on a circuit first to fully appreciate the brilliance of this factory setup.<\/p>\n<p>After driving the GRMN Yaris, I realized it has far greater potential than I initially imagined.<br \/>It\u2019s impressive to see that Toyota can build such a car when they put their mind to it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_8883-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32161\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/IMG_9338-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GRMN Yaris\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The car\u2019s hardware is extremely well developed.<\/p>\n<p>What would make it perfect is a bit more &#8220;hospitality&#8221; to entertain the driver.<br \/>That means improvements in interior quality, engine sound, and the feel of the engine and steering.<\/p>\n<p>Such tuning might be impossible at the current cost, but as one of Japan\u2019s representative sports cars, I hope these areas will be enhanced in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"This time, a Porsche friend of mine was lucky enough to purchase a GRMN Yaris, so I had the chance to test drive it and would like to share my report.
