The Porsche Panamera Trunk<\/h3>\n

I once wrote that the Panamera has a surprisingly spacious trunk:<\/p>\n

\u2192\u3010From the archives\u3011Don\u2019t say a Porsche can\u2019t carry luggage\u2014the Panamera\u2019s trunk is surprisingly roomy<\/a><\/p>\n

But just how much can it actually hold? A look at the specs for the new Panamera Turbo shows a trunk capacity of 500 liters.<\/strong>(The 4E Hybrid offers 405 liters, so capacity varies by model.)<\/span><\/p>\n

500 liters\u2026(-_-)<\/span><\/p>\n

That number doesn\u2019t mean much to me on its own. How big is 500 liters, anyway? Apparently, a bathtub holds around 200 liters(bath products often give directions based on a 200-liter bath)<\/span>\u2014so that\u2019s more than two bathtubs\u2019 worth of water, right?<\/p>\n

\u2026That makes it even harder to picture.(-_-)<\/span><\/p>\n

So, to find out what the Panamera can really carry, I loaded some luggage into the trunk.<\/p>\n

The Panamera Has a Spacious Trunk<\/h3>\n

Here\u2019s the rear of the new Panamera:<\/p>\n

The cargo area looks roomier than you might expect if you\u2019ve always thought \u201cPorsches can\u2019t carry much luggage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n<\/span>We keep a non-slip cargo mat<\/a> in ours. There are pockets on both sides of the trunk, too:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

They also have nets, which are handy for storing car-care supplies we keep in the car. Before loading anything, I decided to measure the cargo area.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Porsche Panamera Trunk Dimensions<\/h3>\n

I measured it with a tape measure and got:<\/p>\n

Width: 92 cm, depth: 103 cm, height: 37 cm<<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not the most precise with a tape measure, so please allow for an error of around a centimeter or so\u2026sorry!(-_-) With those measurements in hand, it was time to load up. First, I tried one suitcase(an LM-size case for three to five days)<\/span>, and it fit like this:<\/p>\n

Plenty of room. (\uffe3\u30fc\uffe3)\uff42<\/p>\n

Next, I tried two suitcases. The second one was a 33-liter RIMOWA suitcase made for Porsche<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Yep, still plenty of room. There was space at the front, so I added a compact stroller from Nishimatsuya, a Japanese baby-products retailer.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Even with all that, there still seems to be room for more.<\/p>\n

Two suitcases and a stroller? That\u2019s a pretty practical amount of cargo space.<\/p>\n

I would have liked to test it with a golf bag, but neither my husband nor I play golf, so we don\u2019t have one at home.<\/strong> Still, from what I\u2019ve seen online, a golf bag should fit.<\/p>\n

Will the Trunk Close?<\/h3>\n

One thing to watch is the height of your cargo. Perhaps because the new Panamera\u2019s rear has a sleek, flowing shape reminiscent of the 911, anything too tall near the front of the trunk can prevent it from closing.<\/strong> So what happens if you lay the suitcase on its side?<\/p>\n

That closed without a problem. Would it be harder to fit standing upright?<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It still closed just fine like this.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

But move it a little closer to the front\u2026<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u2026and the trunk won\u2019t close. It gets stuck partway.<\/p>\n

\n(Apparently, removing the cover separating the seats from the trunk gives you more room to carry taller items.)<\/span><\/p>\n

We don\u2019t often need to carry quite that much, and even on family trips with all four of us, we\u2019ve had no trouble fitting two suitcases plus souvenirs. For our Porsche owner experience, that\u2019s more than enough!<\/p>\n
