Since I often write on this blog about how my husband and I talk about cars, you might think we\u2019re a couple who talks a lot\u2014but that wasn\u2019t always the case. In fact, there was a time when we hardly spoke at all, and I felt a real sense of crisis.<\/p>\n
Our conversations increased dramatically once cars became a shared hobby for us.<\/strong><\/p>\n Originally, my husband and I weren\u2019t the type to discuss our worries or share much; we tended to handle things on our own and keep things to ourselves. And while it might sound cool to say we \u201cdon\u2019t interfere with each other,\u201d the truth is we barely asked about each other\u2019s lives (lol).<\/strong><\/p>\n For example, even if my husband went on a solo 3-night, 4-day tour, I wouldn\u2019t know which inns he stayed at. On days he didn\u2019t need dinner, all I\u2019d see on our Google Calendar was \u201cNo dinner needed.\u201d<\/strong> I didn\u2019t know who he went with or what he ate. Sometimes, long after the fact, he\u2019d casually mention something like, \u201cOh, I went out to eat with so-and-so the other day.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Likewise, my husband never asks me where I\u2019m going or who I\u2019m with when I head out.<\/p>\n We\u2019re pretty indifferent (lol).<\/p>\n We\u2019re both terrible at remembering anniversaries, so even on our wedding anniversary, we\u2019d only realize it when Facebook sent a notification. Then we\u2019d exchange emails around evening like, \u201cDid you know today\u2019s our anniversary?\u201d \u201cOh, I forgot.\u201d<\/strong> We\u2019ve never exchanged gifts or gone out to dinner for Christmas, and when I ask my husband \u201cDo you want chocolate for Valentine\u2019s?\u201d<\/strong>, he says:<\/p>\n \u201cThat\u2019s just a scheme by chocolate companies\u2014I don\u2019t want any!\u201d<\/p>\n So I just buy myself some treat chocolates and enjoy them (laughs).<\/p>\n As for birthdays, my husband says he doesn\u2019t want any presents (even though I think it\u2019s fine to give him something anyway)<\/span>, and I\u2019m more into practical things like \u201cI want a Mac for work!\u201d rather than accessories or bags\u2026 so romance is definitely not our strong suit.<\/p>\n That said, when we first got married, we did have conversations like \u201cI\u2019ve been thinking about this lately\u201d<\/strong> or \u201cWork is developing in this way.\u201d<\/strong> But after our second daughter was born in 2017, our talks dropped off sharply.<\/p>\n With two kids, I had more to do and was constantly sleep-deprived. When my husband came home from work, I\u2019d be putting the kids to bed and then fall asleep myself.<\/p>\n Even on days off, I was often too tired and sleeping, and our daily conversations were probably limited to \u201cGood morning,\u201d \u201cWelcome home,\u201d \u201cI\u2019m back,\u201d and \u201cGood night.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n One day, after months of this, I finally opened up to my husband about my feelings, and we agreed, \u201cWe don\u2019t have enough natural conversations lately, so let\u2019s make time to talk more.\u201d<\/strong> But at the same time, I thought:<\/p>\n Wait, what exactly should we talk about in these \u201cnatural\u201d conversations? (-_-)<\/span><\/p>\n We\u2019d gone so long without talking that I didn\u2019t even know how to start or what to say.<\/p>\n So even though we agreed to talk more, our conversations didn\u2019t really increase\u2014until last June.<\/p>\n By chance, I started this blog, and I naturally became more interested in Porsche and cars. I found myself saying things like \u201cThe new model \u25ef\u25ef just came out\u2014what\u2019s it like?\u201d or \u201cWhat\u2019s torque? What\u2019s a chassis?\u201d<\/strong> and our conversations naturally grew (well, more like we started having geeky talks, haha).<\/span><\/p>\n Cars became the trigger for our talks, but from there, we started talking about all kinds of things.<\/p>\n It made me realize that communication is like blood flow. When blood gets blocked, it thickens and causes illness or poor health. So it needs to keep flowing smoothly to maintain a healthy body.<\/p>\n Communication is the same. Through casual chats and light conversations, you create a natural atmosphere for talking. That foundation lets you discuss important things and keeps the family healthy.<\/p>\n Trying too hard to face each other or force time together can sometimes cause discomfort or stress, but sharing time around mutual interests feels really good\u2014I\u2019ve come to appreciate that more recently.<\/p>\n Thank you so much, Porsche!
