My husband doesn\u2019t really want a supercar.<\/h3>\n

My husband loves Porsche but isn\u2019t that interested in supercars<\/strong>. I asked him why that is.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s been a car enthusiast since childhood, but when he heard his friends rave about the Lamborghini Countach or Miura as \u201camazing! so cool!\u201d he thought, \u201cWell, they\u2019re cool, but not as much as everyone says.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, he did think Ferrari\u2019s \u201cF355,\u201d \u201c360 Modena,\u201d \u201cF430,\u201d and \u201cF40\u201d<\/strong> were cool, especially the F40. He read the episode of the manga \u201cKochikame\u201d where his wealthy colleague Nakagawa bought an F40 so many times it wore a hole in the page (laughs).<\/p>\n

Still, while Porsche became a strong goal of \u201cI\u2019ll definitely buy one when I grow up!\u201d<\/strong>, other supercars never sparked that same strong desire to own one someday.<\/p>\n

Why don\u2019t supercars become a goal to buy?<\/h3>\n

There seem to be three main reasons why my husband isn\u2019t that eager to own a supercar.<\/p>\n

1) Not practical for daily use<\/h4>\n

Supercars are hard to use in everyday life.<\/strong> Their low ground clearance means they scrape on even small bumps, so you can\u2019t just pop into a convenience store or casually go out to eat. Especially with gull-wing doors, you need a very wide parking space, and the loud engine noise draws a lot of attention in town. On the other hand, he said Porsche is great because you can enjoy it anytime\u2014whether on the track, touring, or just daily driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n

2) Not suitable for long tours<\/h4>\n

Whenever he has a long break, my husband goes on long tours of about 1500 km at a time. He drives long distances on highways, then tackles winding roads once he arrives.<\/strong> He says supercars are too tiring and require too much care for that kind of use.<\/p>\n

3) Dislikes modifying cars<\/h4>\n

Some people modify their supercars by changing the muffler to make it louder or lowering the ride height, but he doesn\u2019t like that because it\u2019s \u201ca sign of disrespect to the manufacturer\u2019s engineers.\u201d<\/strong> Supercars are expensive and obviously use high-quality parts. The engineers and developers put all their skills and know-how into designing, testing, and perfecting the car. He doesn\u2019t like modifying it just for louder sound or flashy looks.<\/p>\n

He often says,<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople who modify their supercars right away after buying them have their values all wrong, don\u2019t they? It\u2019s not about enjoying the car itself, but more about wanting to look cool or stand out. That mindset just isn\u2019t mine (-_-)\u201d<\/p>\n

Thoughts after owning a McLaren 650S.<\/h3>\n

Actually, my husband once owned a McLaren 650S. (This one \u2193)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cIf you weren\u2019t interested in supercars, why did you buy it?\u201d<\/strong> I asked. He said he was curious because McLaren had a great brand image and many magazines praised its \u201ccomfortable ride!\u201d in test drives.<\/p>\n

But on the very first day he drove it, he said \u201cThe claim that McLaren rides comfortably is a lie! The Lamborghini Hurac\u00e1n and Ferrari 488 are way easier and more comfortable to drive!\u201d<\/span> (laughs)<\/p>\n

Compared to the old image of Spartan supercars, these newer ones are easier to drive, so maybe that\u2019s why those reviews exist. But after comparing three cars\u2014the Lamborghini Hurac\u00e1n, Ferrari 488, and McLaren 650S\u2014all on the same day with friends who own the first two, the McLaren was the most tiring to drive.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Why the McLaren 650S is tiring<\/h3>\n

When I asked, \u201cWhy is it so tiring?\u201d<\/strong>, my husband said this at the time:<\/p>\n

Well, first of all, it\u2019s the engine noise.<\/strong> When stuck in traffic idling, it feels like you\u2019re stuck at a construction site all the time.<\/p>\n

I also rode shotgun a few times and once drove it on the Royu Driveway and Hanshin Expressway, and the noise was definitely tiring.<\/strong> It wasn\u2019t a sharp, explosive roar but a dull sound that clung to your ears. When I got out, I couldn\u2019t help but think, \u201cFinally free from that noise (\u309co\u309c).\u201d<\/p>\n

The handling was incredibly sharp and fun\u2014something I\u2019d never experienced before\u2014but the brakes were way too heavy, which might make it hard for women to drive.<\/strong>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

He also said things like,<\/p>\n

It feels like you\u2019re driving right on the road surface, which is tiring. McLaren doesn\u2019t have weird shocks, but Ferrari and Lamborghini feel smoother.<\/p>\n

and,<\/p>\n

It turns sharply at intersections, but the steering wheel doesn\u2019t self-center well, so that\u2019s tiring too.<\/p>\n

However, on the other hand,<\/p>\n

I think McLaren is an amazing car for the track.<\/strong> It\u2019s very athletic and super fun. But not really a car for everyday use. Well, that\u2019s just personal preference\u2014some will love it, some won\u2019t.<\/p>\n

He said.

What does my husband want from a car?<\/h3>\n

My husband is not only a car lover but also loves driving, so he said cars that \u201cmake you want to drive but you can\u2019t drive long or feel stressed\u201d<\/strong> just don\u2019t suit him. He wants both \u201cthe car itself to be attractive\u201d and \u201ceveryday drives to be enjoyable.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

From that perspective, Porsche can be called a sports car that satisfies both. In fact, the Porsche Principal (a booklet mailed after purchasing a Porsche)<\/span> says this:<\/p>\n

There is no other sports car that lets you go shopping right after racing at the N\u00fcrburgring. Even if the number of passengers varies, Porsche creates just one thing: a sports car to enjoy every day.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
