Touch Panel Operation<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s been about nine months since our Panamera was delivered. I\u2019ve finally gotten used to the buttons around the steering wheel and the touch panel operations. When I was still unfamiliar, my husband would say from the side, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you turn on the idling stop?\u201d<\/strong> and I\u2019d panic, asking, \u201cWait, where is that!?\u201d But now, that confusion is gone.<\/p>\n

So today, I\u2019d like to introduce five convenient functions of the buttons on the steering wheel and touch panel.<\/p>\n

\u2460\u2662 Button<\/h3>\n

The one I use most often is the \u201c\u2662\u201d button on the right side of the steering wheel.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This button can be freely assigned to toggle the sports exhaust on and off or other functions, but in our household, it\u2019s set as the idling on\/off button, so I use it frequently.<\/strong> You can also display an \u201cidling stop button\u201d on the home screen of the touch panel, but<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

having to glance down and touch the panel every time is a hassle, so I think the \u201c\u2662\u201d button on the steering wheel is the most convenient.<\/p>\n

\u2461 Resetting Trip Distance After Refueling<\/h3>\n

Next up is the \u201ctrip distance reset\u201d<\/strong> button I often use after refueling. On the left side of the steering wheel, there\u2019s a rotary knob.<\/p>\n

Turn it to select the second meter from the left, which shows the trip distance,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

then press and hold for a few seconds (about 2 seconds?)<\/span> until it blinks. Release it, and the display resets to \u201c0.0.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At first, I didn\u2019t know where to operate this button, so I hadn\u2019t reset the trip distance at all, but my husband taught me, and I finally understood.<\/p>\n

\u2462 Adjusting the Passenger Seat<\/h3>\n

This is something I often use when my daughter rides in the passenger seat: you can adjust the passenger seat from the driver\u2019s side.<\/strong> It\u2019s convenient because you don\u2019t have to unbuckle the seatbelt and awkwardly lean over to the side of the passenger seat; you can operate it with the buttons on your own driver\u2019s seat.<\/p>\n

First, select \u201cSettings\u201d (SET)<\/strong> and then \u201cVehicle Settings.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Next, select \u201cSeat Settings.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Then, the option \u201cPassenger Seat Position\u201d<\/strong> appears at the top, so select that.<\/p>\n

You\u2019ll see a screen like this:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

When you operate your own driver\u2019s seat buttons, the passenger seat moves accordingly. Finally, press \u201c\u2715 Complete Seat Adjustment\u201d<\/strong> to finish. It\u2019s really clever how it\u2019s designed.<\/p>\n

My 4-year-old daughter always says, \u201cMommy is moving it with magic!\u201d when I adjust the seat, and she\u2019s completely convinced by my magical powers for now\u2026 Looks like \u201cMommy is a magician\u201d will work for a few more years (laughs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2463 Mode Switch<\/h3>\n

The mode switch is located at the lower right of the steering wheel.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

By simply turning this dial, you can quickly switch between \u201cNormal Mode,\u201d \u201cSport Mode,\u201d \u201cSport Plus Mode,\u201d and \u201cIndividual Mode.\u201d<\/strong> While I don\u2019t often use Sport or Sport Plus during regular driving, I frequently use \u201cIndividual Mode.\u201d (Turn it one click to the left)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This mode lets you pre-set your preferred settings, so just turning the dial switches to those settings.<\/strong> In our household, we set it to \u201clouder sound,\u201d \u201cfirmer suspension,\u201d and \u201crear spoiler opens,\u201d (engine settings don\u2019t change, so it just looks flashier)<\/span> and on the long hill near our home, I enjoy turning on Individual Mode to enjoy the sound.<\/p>\n

However, when parking, be sure to switch back from Individual Mode to Normal Mode while driving, or the rear spoiler won\u2019t close. (Turning the mode switch after stopping doesn\u2019t work, so the spoiler stays open)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2464 Parking Lot Information<\/h3>\n

Press the \u201cAPPS\u201d button on the center console or tap \u201cApps\u201d on the touch panel, and this screen appears:<\/p>\n

Tap \u201cParking Lot Information,\u201d<\/strong> and it will display information about nearby parking lots.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It\u2019s helpful enough to even show whether spaces are available.<\/strong> That said, it\u2019s usually easier to check with a smartphone app, but when you can\u2019t use your phone while driving, you can glance at this screen to find parking info.<\/p>\n

\u2465 Bonus Feature<\/h3>\n

One thing I found personally amusing\u2014or couldn\u2019t help but comment on\u2014is the \u201cNews\u201d section that appears when you press \u201cAPPS\u201d (the touch panel apps). Since it says \u201cNews,\u201d I thought it would show the latest general news like Yahoo News, but…<\/p>\n

It\u2019s only Porsche-related news! (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)<\/p>\n

Well, it\u2019s a nice way to kill time and keep up with the latest Porsche news, so it might be worth reading occasionally. When I told my husband about this after coming home, he said:<\/p>\n

By default, it only shows Porsche news, but if you log in to the My Porsche site and set it up, you can subscribe to your favorite RSS feeds. Though honestly, I don\u2019t really use the news that way. Anyway, with the Panamera\u2019s navigation, there\u2019s nothing you don\u2019t know\u2014you can find out anything.<\/p>\n

Oh, (in many ways)<\/span> that\u2019s how it works!!<\/span><\/p>\n

I should have just asked my husband from the start. I plan to write a separate article about the convenient features my husband thinks are useful.
