Touchscreen Controls<\/h3>\n

It\u2019s been about nine months since our Panamera was delivered, and I\u2019m finally getting the hang of the buttons around the steering wheel and the touchscreen. At first, if my husband leaned over and said, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you turn off the auto start\/stop?\u201d<\/strong> I\u2019d panic: \u201cWait\u2014where is it?!\u201d Thankfully, those days are mostly behind me.<\/p>\n

So today, I\u2019m sharing five handy features you can use with the steering-wheel buttons and touchscreen.<\/p>\n

\u2460 The \u2662 Button<\/h3>\n

The button I use most often is the \u201c\u2662\u201d button on the right side of the steering wheel.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

You can use it to switch the sports exhaust on and off, or assign another function to it. In our car, we\u2019ve set it up to toggle the auto start\/stop system, so I use it all the time<\/strong>. You can also add an \u201cAuto Start\/Stop\u201d button to the touchscreen home screen, but
\n
\n<\/span>
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

having to glance down at the screen and tap it is a bit of a hassle. The \u201c\u2662\u201d button on the steering wheel is definitely the most convenient.<\/p>\n

\u2461 Resetting the Trip Odometer After Refueling<\/h3>\n

Another feature I use often is the trip odometer reset<\/strong> after filling up. Turn the scroll wheel on the left side of the steering wheel to bring up the trip display on the second screen from the left.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

With the trip distance displayed,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

press and hold the button for a few seconds (about two seconds, I think)<\/span>. The display will flash; release the button, and the trip distance resets to \u201c0.0.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At first, I had no idea where to reset the trip distance, so I never did it. My husband finally showed me how.<\/p>\n

\u2462 Adjusting the Passenger Seat<\/h3>\n

I often use this when my daughter is in the front passenger seat: you can adjust the passenger seat from the driver\u2019s side<\/strong>. Instead of unbuckling, leaning across the cabin, and reaching for the seat controls, you can use the buttons on the driver\u2019s seat. It\u2019s really handy.<\/p>\n

First, open \u201cSettings\u201d (SET), then select \u201cVehicle Settings.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Select \u201cSeat Settings.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At the top, you\u2019ll see \u201cPassenger Seat Position.\u201d<\/strong> Select it.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The screen will look like this:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Now, use the seat controls on the driver\u2019s side to move the passenger seat. When you\u2019re done, select \u201c\u2715 Finish seat adjustment.\u201d<\/strong> Pretty clever, right?<\/p>\n

When my four-year-old daughter is in the passenger seat, I tell her, \u201cMommy will use her magic to move your seat!\u201d She\u2019s amazed every time: \u201cWhat?! How did you do that? You\u2019re amazing!\u201d For now, she completely believes in Mommy\u2019s magic. I reckon I\u2019ve got a few more years before she figures it out! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2463 The Mode Switch<\/h3>\n

The mode switch sits below and to the right of the steering wheel.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Turn the dial to quickly switch between Normal, Sport, Sport Plus, and Individual modes<\/strong>. I don\u2019t usually use Sport or Sport Plus in everyday driving, but I do use Individual mode quite often. (Turn the dial one click to the left.)<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Set up your preferred combination of vehicle settings in advance, and you can switch to it just by turning the dial.<\/strong> We\u2019ve configured ours to make the exhaust louder, stiffen the suspension, and raise the rear spoiler (the engine settings stay the same, so it\u2019s more about the sound and the look)<\/span>. There\u2019s a long hill near our house, and I sometimes switch to Individual mode there to enjoy the sound.<\/p>\n

One thing to keep in mind: before parking, switch back to Normal mode while you\u2019re still driving. Otherwise, the rear spoiler won\u2019t retract. (It won\u2019t respond if you turn the mode dial after stopping, so the spoiler stays raised.)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2464 Parking Information<\/h3>\n

Press the \u201cAPPS\u201d button on the center console, or tap \u201cApps\u201d on the touchscreen, and you\u2019ll see a screen like this:<\/p>\n

Select \u201cParking Information\u201d<\/strong> to see nearby parking options.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It even tells you whether spaces are available, which is a nice touch.<\/strong> That said, I find parking apps on my phone easier to use. But if I\u2019m driving and can\u2019t check my phone, I can use the screen to look for parking nearby.<\/p>\n

\u2465 Bonus Feature<\/h3>\n

One thing I found amusing\u2014and couldn\u2019t help commenting on\u2014was the \u201cNews\u201d feature in the screen that appears when you press \u201cAPPS\u201d (the touchscreen apps button). I assumed \u201cNews\u201d would show regular headlines, like Yahoo! News, but this is what came up instead:<\/p>\n

The 919 Hybrid Evo setting a lap record at a circuit, the 911 Speedster concept\u2026<\/p>\n

…Wait, it\u2019s all Porsche news! (\uff9f\u0434\uff9f)<\/p>\n

It\u2019s still a fun way to pass the time, and it keeps you up to date with the latest Porsche news, so I thought I might read it now and then. When I told my husband about it after he got home, he said:<\/p>\n

By default, it only shows Porsche news, but if you log in to the My Porsche website and change the settings, you can subscribe to whatever RSS feeds you like. Not that you\u2019d actually use it for news, though. Anyway, I know everything there is to know about the Panamera\u2019s navigation system.<\/p>\n
