Just three minutes so I can concentrate on work!<\/strong>\u201d while desperately trying to get things done (laughs)\u2026 so I really appreciate my parents.<\/p>\n<p>At that time, I got an email from my husband.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Since the kids are with your parents, how about taking the Carrera T out for a drive on Okayama\u2019s wide-area farm roads?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By \u201cOkayama\u2019s wide-area farm roads,\u201d he meant mainly the \u201cMimasaka Yamanami Kaido,\u201d \u201cOku-Kibi Kaido,\u201d and \u201cKagura Kaido.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Mimasaka Yamanami Kaido is about 26 km of wide-area farm road running from Route 53 in Tsuyama City to Route 484 in Akaiwa City, Okayama Prefecture. The Oku-Kibi Kaido runs about 42 km through mountainous areas from Prefectural Route 71 in Kita-ku, Okayama City to Route 313 in Hokubo Town, Maniwa City.<\/p>\n<p>The Kagura Kaido runs east-west across the highlands of Takahashi City, in central Bitchu.<\/p>\n<p>Altogether, it\u2019s probably around 100 km or so\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31711\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/DSC04877-1280x854.jpeg\" alt=\"Okayama wide-area farm roads\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My husband said,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cExcluding Kyushu, this is definitely the best feeling road in western Japan. And it\u2019s long. It just goes on and on. It\u2019s amazing that such a great road is free. It\u2019s truly inspiring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Also, <a href=\"https:\/\/wind-and-light-bxtr.blog.ss-blog.jp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wata-san, famous as a Boxster enthusiast<\/a>, has praised these Okayama wide-area farm roads as \u201cAscension Roads\u201d and has visited many times to drive them.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, for several years we had talked about \u201c<strong>one day, the two of us want to drive these Okayama wide-area farm roads together<\/strong>,\u201d but arranging for someone to watch the kids for a whole day so we could tour as a couple was quite a challenge, so the opportunity hadn\u2019t come up.<\/p>\n<p>This time, finally, we made it happen.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Off_to_Okayamas_Wide-Area_Farm_Roads\"><\/span>Off to Okayama\u2019s Wide-Area Farm Roads<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>On the day, unusually for me, who\u2019s known as a \u201cstorm woman,\u201d the weather was clear.<\/p>\n<p>We left my parents\u2019 home at noon and returned at 10 p.m. <strong>My husband then drove home, and the total distance covered that day was about 700 km.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before this, I had driven 450 km one way from home to Fuji Speedway, but this was the first time I\u2019d driven such a long distance including winding roads and highways. (We took about an hour break for tea and a quick dinner at a service area, but otherwise kept driving.)<\/p>\n<p>We started on the Yamanami Kaido first. <strong>As rumored, it was a wonderfully pleasant road.<\/strong> With just the right curves and elevation changes, we simply enjoyed driving endlessly on this beautiful road.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31715\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/DSC04823-1280x854.jpeg\" alt=\"Okayama wide-area farm roads\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But I couldn\u2019t help muttering,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">\u201cAh, I really wish I\u2019d come in the Boxster (981 GTS). Nothing beats the Boxster. That engine sound and the open top\u2026 definitely the Boxster over the Carrera T\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My husband chuckled and said, \u201c<strong>What\u2019s with that? Well, I get what you mean though\u2026<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, about one-third of the Yamanami Kaido was closed for construction, so we had to detour, which was a bit disappointing. I want to come back and drive it again once the construction is finished.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31707\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_2496-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Okayama Yamanami Kaido\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, we entered the Oku-Kibi Kaido and met up with Tomoz\u014d-san, a good friend of my husband\u2019s. Tomoz\u014d-san came in his Crayon 992 Carrera S Cabriolet, and we enjoyed a Crayon-themed tour before taking a break at Ukan J\u014dzan Park.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31704\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_2512-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche 911\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Personally, I found the Oku-Kibi Kaido the most fun. The road is narrower than Yamanami Kaido (though still wider than the Royu Driveway), and the engine responded beautifully. <strong>I was able to rhythmically drive using gears 2 \u2192 3 \u2192 4, enjoying the bubbling sounds, engine roar, and blipping.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31714\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/DSC04832-1280x854.jpeg\" alt=\"Okayama wide-area farm roads\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What amazed me was the pattern of moderate curves followed by long straights, repeating over and over. It was so long that I had the illusion of \u201c<strong>Haven\u2019t I driven this stretch just now? Is this an endless loop\u2026?<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We also got to ride in Tomoz\u014d-san\u2019s 992 Carrera S Cabriolet, and he rode shotgun in my Carrera T driven by my husband, letting us experience different flavors of the Carrera, which was a lot of fun.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31712\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/DSC04845-1280x854.jpeg\" alt=\"Okayama wide-area farm roads\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even though they\u2019re both 992s, different grades and models feel completely different in driving character, engine, and everything else. Porsche really is complicated! (laughs)<\/p>\n<p>Tomoz\u014d-san, who experienced the Carrera T, said, \u201c<strong>The engine sound is clear and very pleasant.<\/strong>\u201d I personally think the Carrera T\u2019s engine note is one of the cleanest, most refined, and enjoyable among the 992 lineup.<\/p>\n<p>After that, we drove the Kagura Kaido, headed toward Hiroshima, and then took the highway home.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31705\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_2499-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 Carrera\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31708\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_2621-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 Carrera T\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Carrera_T_and_Tire_Pressure\"><\/span>Carrera T and Tire Pressure<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Actually, on the highway on the way there, we talked about how \u201c<strong>The Carrera T\u2019s ride on the highway isn\u2019t as smooth as I expected. It\u2019s kind of bouncy\u2026<\/strong>.\u201d But after riding in Tomoz\u014d-san\u2019s 992, my husband suggested, \u201cMaybe it\u2019s the tire pressure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Tomoz\u014d-san runs his tires at comfort pressure, so maybe that\u2019s why his ride is smoother. Our Carrera T is set at standard pressure, which is firmer, so lowering the tire pressure might improve the ride.<\/p>\n<p>So we let some air out to set the tires to comfort pressure and tried driving again\u2014and were surprised at how much smoother the ride became.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31721\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_2629-1280x854.jpeg\" alt=\"Okayama wide-area farm roads\" width=\"1280\" height=\"854\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Wow, tire pressure really makes that big a difference!<\/p>\n<p>Also, <strong>I felt that for the 992 Carrera T, it\u2019s more enjoyable to always keep the auto-blip function ON while driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Previously, I drove with the usual settings where auto-blip activates in Sport or Sport Plus modes, but the 992 responds so smoothly and intelligently even at low speeds when matching revs, and it\u2019s fast.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it\u2019s fun to blip manually, but I can\u2019t match the revs as precisely or quickly as the car does (I tend to be slow on the throttle blip), so I find it more enjoyable and easier to just let the car handle it. (With the 981 Boxster GTS and Swift Sport, I enjoyed doing it myself.)<\/p>\n<p>This Okayama wide-area farm road tour left me feeling completely satisfied. Driving at speeds suited to the Carrera T on these roads felt so good that I felt the car was happily alive and lively.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31720\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/IMG_6955-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Okayama wide-area farm roads\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>After heading home, the total distance was 2,800 km, and the break-in period is almost complete.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve heard that after 5,000 km, the engine and driving feel change dramatically, so I\u2019m looking forward to seeing how the Carrera T evolves from here.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Touring with the Carrera T When the kids started their summer vacation from elementary school, we spent two weeks visiting my parents\u2019 home.
