I thought, \u201c<strong>I\u2019ll be fine with an automatic for a while~<\/strong>\u201d but when I got back behind the wheel of our Boxster GTS (981 MT) that we already had at home, I remembered how much fun it is to drive a manual with your own hands\u2026<\/p>\n<p>So I decided, \u201c<strong>I want to buy my own MT car again!<\/strong>\u201d and started looking for a car that met the criteria of <strong>\u201cbudget (early 2 million yen range), 5 seats, compact, and fun to drive.\u201d<\/strong> That\u2019s how I found the Swift Sport.<\/p>\n<p>I went to the nearest dealer for a test drive of the MT model, and after just five seconds of driving, I thought, \u201c<strong>This is the one I\u2019m buying!<\/strong>\u201d (laughs)<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Exterior_Design_and_Interior\"><\/span>Exterior Design and Interior<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I really liked the current model Swift Sport\u2019s look \u2014 it\u2019s cool and cute at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>I wanted a two-tone color, so I chose black and red. The \u201c<strong>Burning Red Pearl Metallic<\/strong>\u201d is a deep, glossy, and beautiful red that I really loved.<\/p>\n<p>My husband suggested, \u201c<strong>Why not add decals? It\u2019ll look super cool.<\/strong>\u201d At first, I said, \u201c<strong>Eh&#8230; but decals make it look like a street racer&#8230;<\/strong>\u201d but after seeing the design, the front and side decals looked stylish (I chose only the side decal that says \u201csport,\u201d as there were two types), so I decided to add them.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, the decals were a dealer option.<\/p>\n<p>The interior features sporty red-accented meters, and red highlights on the dashboard and door panels.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/img01-1280x645.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"645\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.suzuki.co.jp\/car\/swiftsport\/interior\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">*Image source: Suzuki Swift Sport Interior Space<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The seats are quite firm, with red stitching and the \u201csport\u201d logo as accents. I kept thinking, \u201c<strong>Is it really okay for this to be a brand-new car priced at 2.2 million yen (at the time)?<\/strong>\u201d The attention to detail is impressive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-31388\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/img13-1280x830.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1280\" height=\"830\" \/><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.suzuki.co.jp\/car\/swiftsport\/interior\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">*Image source: Suzuki Swift Sport Interior Space<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t think many people would be dissatisfied with this interior \u2014 if anything, I thought it was even flashier than my husband\u2019s Porsche (lol).<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Swift_Sport_Performance_and_Driving_Experience\"><\/span>Swift Sport Performance and Driving Experience<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The Swift Sport is undeniably fun to drive.<\/p>\n<p>Being an MT probably adds to that feeling, but it\u2019s a perfect combination of <strong>\u201clight and nimble\u201d \u00d7 \u201csolid suspension\u201d \u00d7 \u201ca responsive, lively engine.\u201d<\/strong> Even in busy city traffic, it\u2019s plenty enjoyable. The car weighs under 1 ton, so it feels very light, and the acceleration from a stop is quick and satisfying. At the same time, the suspension is firm enough that it never feels \u201cflimsy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Compared to the Porsches we have at home, sure, the Porsche\u2019s rigidity and suspension are amazing, but <strong>in terms of cost performance, a car built this well at this price point<\/strong> might even beat Porsche, I thought.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to other compact cars in this price range, it\u2019s clear that the Swift Sport is <strong>on a whole different level in build quality (especially the suspension).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also, this Swift Sport got even better after I switched to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/swift-lowdown\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lowered suspension.<\/a> The stock suspension felt a bit floaty at times, but especially on the highway, it now sticks firmly to the road and the sense of contact is dramatically improved.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31390\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/266E807A-720E-46FC-A16D-495ED95411B5-1280x960-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Suzuki Swift Sport Suspension\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even at higher speeds or when cornering, it never feels scary or unstable. I can drive with confidence and comfort. (Though the lower ride height does increase the risk of scraping the bottom when leaving convenience store parking lots, etc.)<\/p>\n<p>And the engine\u2019s smoothness is amazing\u2026!<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the Swift Sport, I learned how to blip the throttle myself, and the <strong>response when matching revs and the way the engine smoothly pulls in proportion to the accelerator pedal<\/strong> is just so much fun. Towards the end, I kept asking myself, \u201c<strong>Why am I even thinking about selling such a fun car\u2026?<\/strong>\u201d It was that good to drive.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily, I got a production slot for a 911, so I decided to take the plunge and buy a Porsche, but <strong>if that opportunity hadn\u2019t come up, I probably would have kept driving the Swift Sport for many more years.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Fuel_Economy_and_Practicality\"><\/span>Fuel Economy and Practicality<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Regarding fuel economy, since I mostly drove in city traffic with lots of stops, it was around 12 to 14 km\/l. If I had driven more on suburban roads or highways, the fuel economy might have been better.<\/p>\n<p>As for <strong>practicality, it was outstanding.<\/strong> Being compact, it could handle any road and fit into any parking spot, making it super convenient to get around anywhere.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31389\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_4516-640x480-1.jpg\" alt=\"Suzuki Swift Sport\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The rear seats were surprisingly spacious, allowing me to fit all three kids in the back, and <strong>the trunk could hold a large suitcase suitable for overseas travel.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, when going out with my husband and all five family members, it was a different story. The front passenger footwell is very tight, and my husband always said, \u201c<strong>My feet hit the dash, it\u2019s cramped, no way I can do long trips like this.<\/strong>\u201d Also, when operating the MT, my left arm would accidentally hit his right arm the moment I shifted into second gear (lol), making it a bit uncomfortable to ride in. (In that sense, the Nissan Note we had before was more comfortable.)<\/p>\n<p>The Swift Sport is <strong>incredibly fun to drive solo, but with two or more passengers, it gets heavy and the ride quality suffers a bit,<\/strong> so I think it\u2019s a car best suited for \u201cenjoying driving alone.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Thank_You_Swift_Sport\"><\/span>Thank You, Swift Sport!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After a year and a half with the Swift Sport, if I had the budget, I\u2019d love to have two cars because it was such a hard car to part with.<\/p>\n<p>It was truly a lot of fun.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-31391\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/IMG_1981.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"772\" height=\"549\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Price doesn\u2019t always equal fun, nor does power or horsepower always mean enjoyment.<\/strong> This car really made me feel that deep down.
