odometer.<\/strong> This time, I\u2019d like to share my honest impressions after driving it for a while.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" <strong>a family car with a compact width yet high driving performance,<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/glb220d-4matic\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">after riding in a friend\u2019s GLB200d, I was truly impressed.<\/a>  <\/p>\n<p>Until then, our family car had been a Porsche Cayenne, but <strong>in urban areas\u2014like family restaurant parking lots, convenience stores, and hospitals\u2014the wide body often caused difficulties.<\/strong> Of course, the driving performance itself was impeccable, but for these reasons, I decided to switch to the GLB this time.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/A74D5A23-5249-448F-954F-19BD65BD0C3D-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/>  <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Before buying, I test-drove my younger brother\u2019s GLA200d 4MATIC and also had the chance to test drive the aforementioned friend\u2019s GLB200d 4MATIC to evaluate driving performance and comfort. <strong>The driving felt more agile and sporty than I expected,<\/strong> and I felt the comfort was more than adequate.  <\/p>\n<p>I also had high hopes for the convenience of the 7-seater configuration, imagining scenarios where our family of five would travel with my sister and her child, so I thought the GLB would be extremely useful for family events.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Driving_Performance_and_Fuel_Economy_of_the_GLB200d\"><\/span>Driving Performance and Fuel Economy of the GLB200d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>This is probably a point many are curious about, but according to the trip data reset after the break-in period, the average fuel economy is 13.7 km\/l.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30952\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EA7509A7-20C1-479C-B9F3-FE5EB0FAC225.jpeg\" alt=\"Actual fuel economy of GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1170\" height=\"918\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>As usual, I didn\u2019t pay any attention to fuel economy and just drove naturally with the flow of traffic and how I wanted, so I believe it\u2019s possible to achieve even better mileage.  <\/p>\n<p>On highways alone, if you drive normally, 18\u201320 km\/l is achievable. Even if you push it a bit, you can expect around 15 km\/l.  <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Driving_Performance_Evaluation_Differences_Between_Urban_and_Highway_Driving\"><\/span>Driving Performance Evaluation: Differences Between Urban and Highway Driving<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>In stop-and-go urban traffic, <strong>the diesel engine\u2019s strong low-end torque means it never feels sluggish.<\/strong> There\u2019s no shortage of power in any situation, and it accelerates exactly as you expect.  <\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, perhaps due to a relatively low gear ratio, the automatic transmission tends to hold the engine revs quite high in 1st and 2nd gears. When accelerating normally with the flow, it shifts up around 2,000 to 3,000 rpm. This doesn\u2019t change much even in Eco mode.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30950\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/A8140A9E-0FCF-44FB-A810-A07D7B6CCEFD-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d AMG Line Package tires\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>Since the engine can produce maximum torque at just 1,400 rpm, I wish it would shift up more smoothly at lower revs.  <\/p>\n<p>On highways, at speeds around 100 km\/h, it doesn\u2019t quite have that heavy, solid feel typical of German cars. Of course, it\u2019s stable and reassuring, but the sense of refinement might be a bit lacking.  <\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>once you reach speeds typical of leading the passing lane on the Shin-Tomei Expressway, the GLB becomes very stable.<\/strong> The tire grip increases noticeably, and it starts moving forward like an arrow. After all, this car\u2019s true home is the Autobahn.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Interior_and_Comfort_of_the_GLB200d\"><\/span>Interior and Comfort of the GLB200d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Seat_Comfort_and_the_Third-Row_Seats\"><\/span>Seat Comfort and the Third-Row Seats<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-30956\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/EAEC3A21-9898-4A5F-B8E5-F60598322C95.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d AMG Leather Exclusive Package seats\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>In my case, the AMG Leather Exclusive Package is equipped, featuring gray-black leather seats. These seats are <strong>somewhat thick and firm leather, not plush or cushy.<\/strong> Because of this, people used to Japanese cars\u2019 seats might find them uncomfortable. Personally, I would prefer a slightly softer material.  <\/p>\n<p>However, when it comes to fatigue on long drives, I have no complaints, and <strong>even after driving 500 km in a day between Tokyo and Osaka, my lower back doesn\u2019t hurt.<\/strong>  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30949\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/89271A3E-D051-4D46-AE65-16D30521FE64-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d engine\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/>  <\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30954\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30954\" class=\"size-full wp-image-30954\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/5F5F2139-793A-4276-925E-589F5FA2B7A6.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB 200d second-row seats\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-30954\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Second-row seats<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The second-row seats have sufficient width and can accommodate large child seats. However, the seat cushion is a bit short, so taller adult males might feel some discomfort with their knees slightly raised, which could affect comfort.  <\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_30955\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30955\" class=\"wp-image-30955 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/E25943B2-473C-4594-B8B3-0E9AD37064D1.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d third-row seats\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-30955\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Third-row seats<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The third-row seats are designed for people under 168 cm tall, making them quite minimal in size. Because of this, many reviews point to this as a drawback of the GLB, but in reality, it rarely becomes an issue.  <\/p>\n<p>Of course, if you want to seat seven adults, that\u2019s a different story, but <strong>these seats are perfectly fine for children,<\/strong> and the enclosed feeling seems to be comforting for them.  <\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, even adults can sit there for up to about an hour if the second-row seats are moved slightly forward, without their heads touching the ceiling.  <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ease_of_Use_of_the_Infotainment_System\"><\/span>Ease of Use of the Infotainment System<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Regarding the infotainment system, it takes a little time to get used to the menu hierarchy at first, but the display is clear, and controls can be operated via the center console pad or steering wheel switches, so I have no particular complaints.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30354\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/47DD5395-76AA-4326-81AB-E0A691DC7364-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>However, the factory navigation, while easy to see and understand, often sets routes that feel a bit off.  <\/p>\n<p>At first, I tolerated it, but since it frequently suggested questionable routes, <strong>I later purchased the \u201cSmartphone Integration Function (\u00a536,600)\u201d online from the Mercedes me Store<\/strong> to enable Apple CarPlay on my iPhone.  <\/p>\n<p>Now, I use CarPlay almost 100% of the time to display my smartphone\u2019s navigation on the screen.  <\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Summary_of_Pros_and_Cons_of_the_GLB200d\"><\/span>Summary of Pros and Cons of the GLB200d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Im_Glad_About_After_Buying\"><\/span>What I\u2019m Glad About After Buying<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Above all, it\u2019s the perfect balance of compact size and the convenience of being able to seat seven when needed.  <\/p>\n<p>In addition, the driving performance and feel\u2014especially the stability at high speeds\u2014make it clear this car was designed in a country with the Autobahn. It\u2019s also quite agile on winding roads.  <\/p>\n<p>Overall, <strong>there\u2019s no compromise in driving, cornering, or braking.<\/strong> It\u2019s not a car that makes driving thrilling, but as a very reliable partner that works diligently like a Mercedes, it inspires great confidence.  <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30357\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/A78CBAC5-B357-4728-A6FA-4590C9644A63-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d 4MATIC ambient lighting\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/>  <\/p>\n<p>Also, the interior design\u2019s elegance\u2014such as the ambient lighting, the quality of the dashboard and door trims, and the feel and sound of the doors closing\u2014never feels cheap, which adds to the satisfaction.  <\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Areas_for_Improvement\"><\/span>Areas for Improvement<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>There are hardly any complaints, but if I had to pick three points, they would be:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Pirelli P-ZERO tires standard on the AMG Line Package\u2019s 19-inch wheels are <strong>too high-performance, making the handling overly sharp.<\/strong> Tires with a slightly milder character would better suit the GLB\u2019s concept. For example, tires like Michelin\u2019s Primacy series or Bridgestone\u2019s Turanza series, <strong>which offer superior ride comfort and quietness, would likely increase satisfaction for many users.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>I\u2019d like the seat comfort improved a bit more.<\/strong> Especially the leather material and the length of the second-row seat cushions are points that need attention. I\u2019m not asking for seats like those in the GLE or GLS, but I\u2019d prefer materials with a bit more softness and suppleness.<\/li>\n<li>While it\u2019s very enjoyable to drive sportily, <strong>I wish the automatic transmission\u2019s control in city driving would favor lower revs more.<\/strong> For example, when starting from a stoplight or in slow-moving traffic, I\u2019d like it to accelerate smoothly by utilizing the diesel engine\u2019s low-end torque rather than by revving up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are my honest impressions after purchasing the GLB200d 4MATIC.
