Nothing Unknown Around the Navigation System<\/h3>\n

The other day, I shared my thoughts on the convenient features around the Panamera\u2019s touchscreen in my blog, but after talking with my husband, I realized there were many things about the touchscreen operation and functions that I didn\u2019t know… In fact, my husband said to me, \u201cThere\u2019s nothing I don\u2019t know about the Panamera\u2019s navigation system.\u201d<\/strong> So this time, I\u2019d like to introduce \u201cConvenient Touchscreen Features My Husband Found Useful.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Not to make excuses(well, maybe it\u2019s an excuse…)<\/span>, but the touchscreen operation and settings aren\u2019t really detailed in the Panamera\u2019s owner\u2019s manual, so you have to learn and confirm everything by trying it out yourself. Thinking about that, I really admire how my husband boldly claims to know everything about the navigation system despite it not being in the manual\u2014he must have researched it obsessively (lol).<\/strong><\/p>\n

So, here are the four features my husband found convenient.<\/p>\n

\u2460 Customizable Home Screen<\/h3>\n

The first is \u201cthe ability to customize the home screen to your liking.\u201d<\/strong> According to my husband,<\/p>\n

My home screen is arranged with frequently used buttons like chassis settings, sport exhaust, idling stop, and the clock, all placed in order of easy reach. It\u2019s definitely more convenient to customize and tailor it to your own preferences.<\/p>\n

Since I only use the already customized home screen, I asked him to actually show me how to set it up. First, press the \u201cthree-line icon(what\u2019s this icon called? Menu?)<\/span>\u201d at the top of the touchscreen, and a button labeled \u201cSet Home\u201d<\/strong> will appear\u2014click that.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

By the way, the second button, \u201cSet Info Widget,\u201d<\/strong> is for configuring a simple widget-like screen that appears halfway when you scroll the touchscreen. So you can set different content for the home screen and the info widget separately. Back to the \u201cSet Home\u201d button\u2014clicking it brings up a screen like this:<\/p>\n

Next, from the left side\u2019s \u201cSelect Category,\u201d<\/strong> you freely tap the items you want to add or frequently use on your home screen and drag them over to the right side. It\u2019s like drag-and-drop. For example, if you add \u201cVehicle\u201d to the right side, you can choose whether to display buttons for adjusting suspension settings or changing the driving mode itself.<\/p>\n

There are also five layout options available, each changing the number, arrangement, and size of panels displayed. So you could have \u201cLayout 1\u201d focused on vehicle-related controls, and \u201cLayout 2\u201d focused on navigation and media, saving each layout with a different theme and switching depending on your mood or driving situation.
\nDon\u2019t forget to press the red \u201cConfirm\u201d button at the end.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2461 Apple CarPlay<\/h3>\n

The second convenient feature is \u201cApple CarPlay\u201d<\/strong> found within the apps. I haven\u2019t used it myself\u2014actually, I don\u2019t have any music on my iPhone(when I changed my iPhone before, syncing didn\u2019t go well and all my music got deleted, so I haven\u2019t added any since…)<\/span>. According to my husband,<\/p>\n

CarPlay currently only supports \u201ciPhone music apps,\u201d \u201cSiri,\u201d and \u201cApple Maps for navigation,\u201d so it\u2019s nothing special yet. But with iOS 12 coming this fall, it will support third-party navigation apps like Google Maps, which I\u2019m really looking forward to.<\/p>\n

It would be great to display Google Maps for navigation\u2014especially since it provides pretty real-time traffic info and knows shortcuts only locals would know, making it very handy. If that happens, I wonder if people will stop using the built-in navigation altogether. It\u2019s a tough time for car navigation manufacturers these days.<\/p>\n

\u2462 News App<\/h3>\n

The third convenient feature is the \u201cNews App.\u201d According to my husband,<\/p>\n

By default, only Porsche news is registered, but if you log in to My Porsche site<\/a> and configure it, you can subscribe to your favorite RSS feeds. For example, if you register the \u201cWelcome Home, PORSCHE\u201d blog, you\u2019ll get update notifications. But honestly, I don\u2019t really use the news app just for that.<\/p>\n

True, you don\u2019t really check \u201cRSS\u201d while driving. Also, although update info appears, it only shows the blog and article titles, and clicking doesn\u2019t show the full text, so it\u2019s more convenient to read on your smartphone. I wonder when you\u2019d actually use this feature… maybe when you\u2019re waiting for someone or have some free time? (lol)<\/p>\n

\u2463 Passenger Seat Adjustment<\/h3>\n

The fourth convenient feature is the ability to adjust the passenger seat from the driver\u2019s seat. I also find this handy, and I wrote a detailed article about how to do it before, so please check it out if you like.<\/p>\n
