Part Two of Our PECLA Visit<\/h3>\n

Yesterday, I wrote about the many facilities at the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles (PECLA).<\/p>\n

Today, it\u2019s time for part two. The PECLA parking lot is filled with all kinds of Porsches, so just looking around is a treat. I\u2019d guess there were around 150 cars in all, including 911s, Boxsters, Caymans, Macans, and Cayennes (though I didn\u2019t spot a Panamera)<\/span>. There were also plenty of beautiful Porsches in colors you don\u2019t see very often in Japan.<\/p>\n

So, for today\u2019s second installment, I\u2019ll take a closer look at the 10 Porsches on display by the PECLA entrance, from classic icons to newer models.<\/p>\n

New Models and Race Cars<\/h3>\n

Here\u2019s a look at the display area. This photo was taken from behind the cars, which are arranged neatly in three rows. Each one has an information card beside it.<\/p>\n

\u2460 Porsche 918 Spyder<\/h4>\n

The first car that made me think, \u201cWow, that looks incredible!\u201d<\/strong> was the 918 Spyder. Its shape reminded me of the Mission E, the concept car that came before Porsche announced its all-electric Taycan. It\u2019s amazing to think that a car with a design like this was actually sold to the public. Just 918 were built for customers worldwide in 2015, and they reportedly sold out quickly.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u2461 911 GT2 RS with Weissach Package<\/h4>\n

This was displayed at the back of the center row: a 911 GT2 RS with the Weissach Package. What a sight! The package reportedly costs more than \u00a53 million as an option. Up close, it was easy to see the carbon-fiber components used throughout. No wonder it costs so much.<\/p>\n

\u2462 Porsche 919 Hybrid<\/h4>\n

This is the 919 Hybrid race car. I\u2019d only ever seen the white 919 Hybrid Evo and 919 Hybrid Tribute, so I\u2019d gotten used to thinking of the 919 as a white car. But the red looks fantastic, too. And that enormous \u201cDMG MORI\u201d logo\u2014just imagine how much they must have paid for the sponsorship! (laughs)<\/p>\n

A Lineup of Classic Porsche Icons<\/h3>\n

\u2463 1958 Porsche 356 Outlaw Speedster<\/h4>\n

\u201cOutlaw\u201d refers to a modified or restored car that doesn\u2019t follow the traditional approach of using period-correct original parts. As a Speedster, it\u2019s distinguished by its low windshield.<\/strong> Whether an original or a replica, a 356 from this era must be incredibly hard to come by.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u2464 1964 Porsche 356 Cabriolet Emory Special<\/h4>\n

This car was built by Rod Emory, head of Emory Motorsports, as a tribute to the Porsche 550, which debuted as a race car in 1954. It\u2019s a rare 1962 \u201cSpecial Roadster\u201d<\/strong>\u2014the sort of car you\u2019re unlikely to see anywhere but a museum.<\/p>\n

\u2465 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster<\/h4>\n

This is the 1989 Speedster, a limited-production open-top model with just 250 examples built<\/strong>. When it was unveiled, it became a dream car for countless enthusiasts who wanted to own one and get behind the wheel. It has an air-cooled, 3,165 cc flat-six with a single overhead camshaft, paired with a five-speed manual transmission.<\/p>\n

\u2466 1977 Porsche Turbo Carrera Coupe<\/h4>\n

In 1974, Porsche introduced the 930, the first 911 to feature a turbocharged engine. In August 1977, Porsche announced an updated 911 Turbo with displacement increased to 3.3 liters and an intercooler added.<\/strong> The naturally aspirated models also moved to the 930 generation in 1978. The 930 was reportedly a little larger all around than the original 911.<\/p>\n

\u2467 1967 Porsche 912 in Conda Green<\/h4>\n

This used car was once advertised with the tagline, \u201cEvergreen. A 911 with something special.\u201d<\/strong> And it really does feel special. The one-millionth 911 was painted a beautiful shade of green called Irish Green, but this looked like a different color altogether. Either way, it was gorgeous.<\/p>\n

\u2468 1973.5 Porsche 911 T Targa in Chartreuse<\/h4>\n

A simple, no-frills 911 T. The current 911 T is also sold in Japan, but a manual transmission isn\u2019t available here (though it is in Germany)<\/span>. My husband was disappointed: \u201cA 911 T only makes sense with a manual!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u2469 1969 Porsche 911 T in Polo Red<\/h4>\n

This red was beautiful. The 911 T was tuned for road use and designed to do away with unnecessary extras, making it more affordable than a regular 911. But with a focus on simplicity and cost-cutting, its output was just 111 PS, making it the least powerful model in 911 history.<\/strong> The \u201cT\u201d stands for Touring.<\/p>\n

A Feast for the Eyes: More Porsches on Display<\/h3>\n

Just outside the display area, a bright red 911 stood in front of a \u201c70th Anniversary\u201d panel. A red Porsche 911 is so cool! I\u2019d love to be the kind of stylish woman who steps out of one with a flourish. (laughs)<\/p>\n

The cars in this display are changed regularly, so on another visit, I might get to see a different Porsche lineup. Some of the cars on display this time had signs reading \u201cPrivate Car,\u201d so I wonder if they had been loaned by their owners.<\/p>\n

I found PECLA more compact than the Porsche Museum, but packed with things to enjoy. I\u2019d love to visit Porsche Experience Centers in other countries, too.
