{"id":36925,"date":"2018-08-21T06:00:42","date_gmt":"2018-08-20T21:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/?p=36925"},"modified":"2021-07-28T21:16:42","modified_gmt":"2021-07-28T12:16:42","slug":"touring-boxster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/en\/entry\/touring-boxster\/","title":{"rendered":"Touring North Through Hyogo Prefecture to Beautiful Fukui in a Porsche Boxster"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"style3a\">Wind and Light, Boxster<\/h3>\n<p>For quite some time, my husband has been reading a Boxster touring blog written by someone named <strong>&#8220;wata-san.&#8221;<\/strong> It seems to be well-known among Boxster and touring enthusiasts. <strong>The blog shares stories and videos of touring all across Japan.<\/strong> The photography and video quality are stunning, but what really stands out is the passion for touring\u2014like driving 800 km in a single day and covering 100,000 km in three and a half years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wind-and-light-bxtr.blog.so-net.ne.jp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>\u2192 &#8220;Wind and Light, Boxster.&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I learned about wata-san\u2019s blog from my husband, and whenever a new video is released, we watch it together on the TV. Watching those videos always makes me think, <strong>&#8220;My husband\u2019s passion for driving is intense, but wata-san\u2019s is on another level.&#8221;<\/strong> My husband often mutters in awe, &#8220;There\u2019s always someone better\u2014wata-san is truly amazing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>So, in early August, wata-san posted a &#8220;Sado Island Summer Touring Movie&#8221; on his blog. After watching it, I left a comment and received this reply from wata-san:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">Not just Sado Island, but the Sea of Japan coast in summer is truly beautiful. From Kobe, I think the Tango Peninsula and Wakasa Bay offer fantastic driving routes. Plus, there are plenty of interesting national and prefectural roads to enjoy on the way to the Sea of Japan\u2014I\u2019m really envious (laughs).<\/p>\n<p>Seeing this reply, my husband said, <strong>&#8220;Really? There aren\u2019t many good roads in Hyogo. I\u2019m jealous of the great roads in eastern Japan (laughs)&#8230;&#8221;<\/strong> But a few days later, early in the morning,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">&#8220;I\u2019m going to follow wata-san\u2019s advice and tour all the way to the Sea of Japan!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>he said, then took off alone in the Boxster.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Touring from Nishinomiya to Fukui<\/h3>\n<p>The weather was perfect that day, and it seems he had a very enjoyable drive. The next day, he emailed me a summary of the <strong>touring route and details<\/strong> <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(he apparently took the time to make it himself, lol)<\/span>, so I\u2019d like to share it today.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/embed?mid=1eNldfywFodt5CNQjQIVzN3AjYvC1LxIO\" width=\"350\" height=\"250\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2460 R176 &#8211; K68<\/h4>\n<p>First, he headed north on R<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (National Route) <\/span>176. That day, he passed through the busy city of Sanda, then took K<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\"> (Prefectural Route) <\/span>37 to K68 <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Hokusetsu Kitayama Kaido)<\/span>. K68 is a great road with good pavement but heavy traffic, which is its only downside. <strong>If you\u2019re lucky enough to get pole position, it\u2019s a very fun road to drive.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4375 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_0108-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2461 K12 &#8211; R372<\/h4>\n<p>K12 features many long straight stretches heading north from Inagawa, with some enjoyable mountain winding roads in the latter half\u2014highly recommended. Then he took R372 <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(commonly called Dekansho Kaido)<\/span> east. As a national route, it\u2019s wide and allows for high-speed driving through beautiful rural scenery. <strong>Personally, I call it &#8216;Hyogo\u2019s Romantic Road.&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4374 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_0097-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2462 K54 &#8211; R162<\/h4>\n<p>Next, he took K54 north to Sonobe. <strong>This short K54 route is often empty and has excellent road quality.<\/strong> It\u2019s basically a free-for-all driving spot. From Sonobe, he aimed for Hiyoshi Dam, then drove along K19 and R162. This area is known as the Miyama Kaido and is a popular spot for motorcycle touring.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4377 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_0079-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a fantastic road for smooth driving, but <strong>be very careful as it\u2019s heavily patrolled by police.<\/strong> That day, while listening to GPS radar warnings and cruising slowly on R162, a Crown undercover police car with flashing red lights pulled up behind him, so he slammed on the brakes. Driving slowly at about 45 km\/h for a while, the undercover eventually gave up and made a U-turn.<\/p>\n<p>Watching this in the rearview mirror, he shifted into 2nd gear, turned on Sport Plus mode, and blasted off with roaring exhaust\u2014no surprise there.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2463 Miyama Fureai Plaza \u2013 Angel Line<\/h4>\n<p>He stopped for a break at the roadside station <strong>&#8220;Miyama Fureai Plaza.&#8221;<\/strong> Enjoying a soft-serve ice cream made with Miyama milk, he didn\u2019t linger long and pressed on.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4376 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_0099-1-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/>He continued on R162, passed through Obama City, and headed to the Angel Line on the Noto Peninsula. Although he\u2019s visited Fukui many times, this was his first time on this road. Due to heavy rain, there were many small stones and branches on the road, and some sections were single-lane traffic, so he couldn\u2019t push the pace. Still, the occasional views of the sea were breathtakingly beautiful.<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4380 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_0095-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">*By the way, this was his lunch that day. When he goes touring, it\u2019s usually convenience store bento (lol).<\/span><br \/>\n<strong><br \/>\nThe spacious parking lot at the summit was nearly empty. With no unnecessary guardrails blocking the view, it was an ideal spot for car photography, so he spent some time shooting photos there.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2464 R162 &#8211; Mikata Goko Rainbow Line<\/h4>\n<p>Leaving the Angel Line behind, he continued along the R162 coastline. The temperature was a comfortable 25-26\u00b0C with low humidity and soft sunlight\u2014perfect for open-top driving. <strong>He felt it was the most enjoyable open-air drive he\u2019s ever had.<\/strong> Racing along this scenic seaside route, he felt like he was back in California from his recent trip.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4384 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_7669-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Entering the Mikata Goko Rainbow Line and reaching the summit, everything was a vivid blue. The sea and sky colors were so strikingly blue, it\u2019s rare to see such a view.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4378 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_0119-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">\u2465 Encounter with a Boxster GTS<\/h4>\n<p>After a break, on the way home, he spotted a white 981 Boxster ahead on R162. Looking closely, it had a white body with a red soft top, body-colored rollover bar\u2014exactly the same exterior. And it was the same GTS model! They must have noticed each other because they drove together for a while. The other driver was waiting to turn right onto the Angel Line.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4379 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_7668-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As he passed by, their eyes met and they waved! We waved back. That moment probably lasted less than a second, but <strong>as fellow owners of the same car, it felt like a deep conversation in that brief instant.<\/strong> He felt joy from this wonderful encounter and wished the other driver a safe journey before heading home.<\/p>\n<p>So, <strong>the day\u2019s total distance was 433.8 km, driving time was 9 hours and 7 minutes, fuel efficiency was 10.8 km\/l, and average speed was 48 km\/h.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-4381 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/IMG_0102-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the summary of this touring trip.
