Porsche Camp4 Canada<\/h3>\n

The other day, while watching the Porsche Channel, I came across a video introducing \u201cPorsche Camp4 Canada\u201d<\/strong>. This program is described as \u201can exciting experience where you drive a Porsche on a specially prepared ice and snow course, learn proper driving and vehicle control techniques from instructors, and enjoy thrills like never before.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

While Porsche Japan\u2019s website only features the \u201cPorsche Track Experience\u201d held in Japan, Porsche Canada\u2019s site provides detailed information about \u201cPorsche Camp4 Canada\u201d and even allows you to register there.<\/p>\n

On Porsche Canada\u2019s Website<\/h3>\n

When I visited the site, it started with something like this. (I\u2019m not fluent in English, so I only got the gist)<\/span><\/p>\n

At the Porsche Ice Experience, you learn how to master and control your car in any weather. Winter isn\u2019t the time to just sit by the fireplace sipping hot cocoa! On the contrary, winter is the perfect season to gain an entirely new and exciting driving experience on ice and snow! Over several days, professional instructors teach you driving skills on a specially prepared ice and snow course. An experience you\u2019ve never had before awaits you. We at Porsche want all Porsche drivers to learn how to drive confidently in winter conditions!<\/p>\n

Something like that, I guess. (Definitely not written in such a high-energy tone\u2026)<\/span><\/p>\n

Anyway, it sounds like a fun program offering a special experience on a course made of snow and ice. So I decided to watch the YouTube video again carefully.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s Watch the Video<\/h3>\n

First, there\u2019s classroom learning about \u201cCorrect seat position,\u201d \u201cEffects of laws of physics on vehicle,\u201d and \u201cCorrect steering position.\u201d<\/strong> That means the right seat position, the physical laws affecting the vehicle, and the proper steering position. The actual course looks like this:<\/p>\n

Amazing… This is a huge, specially prepared course made possible by Canada\u2019s vast nature. Near the entrance, a neat lineup of 911s.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

The program uses two types: the 911 Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S.<\/strong> If I were to join, I\u2019d probably feel safer with the four-wheel-drive 4S… The video also shows participants arriving by Porsche bus.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

This gentleman looks super excited, haha. Just watching him makes me smile. Participants get off the bus and high-five the instructors one by one. It\u2019s like the scene when the iPhone first launched at the Apple Store (lol).<\/p>\n

Back to the neat lineup of 911s. It\u2019s truly impressive and beautiful when you see it like this.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Now the program begins. It covers braking on ice, handling, correct steering techniques, proper understeer and oversteer<\/strong>(Oversteer means the car turns inward more than intended as speed increases, while understeer means it drifts outward)<\/span>, lane changes with winter tires, cautious acceleration on winding roads, driving with winter tires having 1.5mm tread depth, and slalom driving<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Wow, this looks like they\u2019re sliding a lot, but maybe it\u2019s a program to experience PSM (Porsche Stability Management). It\u2019s almost like an attraction.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

I thought, \u201cThis looks super scary (\uff1b\uff9f\u0414\uff9f)!\u201d but the participants actually look like they\u2019re having fun.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

From above, they\u2019re kicking up huge snow clouds while driving, which looks incredible,<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

but they look like they\u2019re having a blast (lol).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It\u2019s probably their first time experiencing this, realizing how amazing the Porsche\u2019s performance is, and they can\u2019t help but smile. Still, it\u2019s impressive how they maintain control without crashing despite such intense driving… Porsche\u2019s performance really is incredible.<\/p>\n

Most of the footage seems to be shot by drone, so the visuals are stunning.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Some participants are smiling, but others show expressions like this.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Wow!!(*0*)<\/span><\/p>\n

No wonder (lol). Afterwards, the video shows participants taking turns practicing, and they keep quite close distances between cars.<\/p>\n

Their expressions are very serious. You can feel their determination.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

One wrong step could cause a major accident. And here they are doing slalom in this environment.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Amazing… I wouldn\u2019t even be confident doing slalom on normal roads. The instructors are very passionate, and participants listen intently.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

There are also female participants\u2014a trio of beautiful women. They really are stunning.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

As the program progresses, participants start to relax and show more smiles.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Yeah~!!!!<\/span><\/p>\n

Of course, they\u2019re filming the video\u2014definitely filming it (lol). Every night, participants enjoy dinner together.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Such a rich experience. I wonder what kind of jobs these participants have.<\/p>\n

This is the hotel where they stay.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

So, what do the participants say? (I\u2019m translating mostly from the vibe, so take it lightly)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDefinitely the best day of my life!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cAmazing! So much fun!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just fantastic and fun, yes, yes, absolutely fantastic!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cTruly amazing, I learned so much.\u201d<\/strong> Everyone looks very satisfied. The instructors seem kind and thorough.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

At the end, everyone takes a commemorative photo. Behind them is a \u201cPORSCHE\u201d sculpture made of ice.<\/p>\n

Finally, the video closes with everyone shouting, \u201cDid you all have fun!?\u201d \u201cYeah!!!\u201d<\/p>\n

How Much Does It Cost?<\/h3>\n

The 2019 schedule for \u201cPorsche Camp4 Canada\u201d is from late January to early February. I wondered how much such a packed program would cost, so I looked it up…<\/p>\n

$5,495 CAD (plus taxes)<\/span><\/p>\n

I didn\u2019t immediately get the conversion, but at the time (August 25, 2018), 1 CAD was 85.30 yen, so…<\/p>\n

That\u2019s about 468,720 yen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wow! ((\uff1b\uff9f\u0414\uff9f)) But I guess it would cost around that much…<\/p>\n

Compared to Japan\u2019s \u201cPorsche Track Experience,\u201d this looks more like an attraction and seems really fun. I think it would be both enjoyable and educational to participate… but if you can\u2019t understand English over the walkie-talkie, it would really be dangerous…<\/strong> So being able to communicate in English is probably a must to join.<\/p>\n

My husband has been working harder on his English lately, so maybe he\u2019ll join in a few years ( I\u2019ll stay home in Japan and just want to know what it\u2019s like, haha<\/span> ).
