The Wonderful Panamera<\/h3>\n
So, after returning home from my parents\u2019 house, I recently drove the Panamera for the first time in a while on my way to work…<\/p>\n
Wow… what an incredible car this is…<\/span><\/p>\n I was once again deeply moved.<\/p>\n I often hear fellow Porsche drivers say, \u201cYou feel amazed every day you drive a Porsche,\u201d<\/strong> but I think the feeling of awe only grows stronger when you get back behind the wheel after some time. That said, the Volkswagen Golf 7 is also a very good car, and every time I drive it I think, \u201cThis is a nice car,\u201d with no complaints at all. But when I get into the Panamera, I\u2019m always moved to the point of sighing in admiration.<\/strong><\/p>\n What exactly moves me so much? There are so many things I could write about that it\u2019s hard to cover them all, but here are the main points:<\/p>\n The Porsche steering wheel is solid and, although it\u2019s a bit thicker than those in regular cars, it fits comfortably in my hands as a woman. Also, the angle of the Porsche steering wheel is not \u201claid back\u201d but rather \u201cupright,\u201d which makes you firmly grip the wheel and feel, \u201cAlright, I\u2019m ready to drive now!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n The Panamera is a massive car weighing over two tons, so it\u2019s definitely heavy. But that doesn\u2019t mean there\u2019s any \u201cheaviness when starting or accelerating.\u201d<\/strong> (I think the standard Panamera feels even more nimble than the Turbo.)<\/span> It has a solid weight but accelerates smoothly and drives beautifully. I absolutely love this balance.<\/p>\n When I drive other cars after getting used to the Panamera\u2019s accelerator, I sometimes think, \u201cWait, do other cars really have this much free play on the accelerator?\u201d \u201cI\u2019m pressing the pedal but it\u2019s not moving at all! Or if I press too much, it suddenly shoots forward!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n But with the Panamera, none of that happens. It feels completely in sync with the driver\u2019s intentions. You could say the accelerator responds as soon as you think \u201cLet\u2019s accelerate\u201d (even though you\u2019re actually pressing the pedal)<\/span>, and if you press firmly, it delivers incredible acceleration. There\u2019s no awkwardness in this accelerator feel\u2014it\u2019s exactly what \u201coneness between horse and rider\u201d must feel like.<\/strong><\/p>\n The brakes have no free play either. If you press lightly, they respond lightly; if you press deeply, they grip firmly with a low center of gravity.<\/strong> There\u2019s no feeling of pitching forward, and you can stop with confidence. When I drove a McLaren before, the brakes were so heavy (it honestly felt like a training machine)<\/span> that I couldn\u2019t react quickly, and I thought, \u201cThis is hard for women to drive.\u201d But the Panamera\u2019s brakes aren\u2019t too heavy at all. Considering it\u2019s a massive car over two tons, it\u2019s amazing how stable and effective the brakes are.<\/p>\n Recently, I had work in downtown Osaka. When I drive the Golf on the Hanshin Expressway or city streets, I often experience cars cutting in or tailgating. The Hanshin Expressway\u2019s tricky lane changes might be partly to blame… but when I\u2019m driving the Panamera, I never get tailgated or cut off (laughs).<\/strong> As a result, I can drive safely and with peace of mind.<\/p>\n For those who love the ride comfort of a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or other high-end luxury sedans, the Panamera\u2019s ride might feel firm and \u201cnot very comfortable.\u201d The Panamera\u2019s ride has no softness at all; when going over concrete joints on the highway, it doesn\u2019t \u201cfloat\u201d over them but rather absorbs the shock firmly through the lower body and overcomes the bumps.<\/strong> (I can\u2019t quite express it well…)<\/span><\/p>\n Personally, I don\u2019t like a soft, floaty ride because it feels like being on a bus, so I love the Panamera\u2019s firm yet luxurious ride.<\/p>\n Actually, I recently had the chance to talk with someone who works in the Porsche industry, and they said this:<\/p>\n \u201cHaving driven various Porsches, I truly believe the Panamera is a great car. Just today, I happened to be on the highway and ended up overtaking a VIP vehicle in front of me. I had to remind myself not to get too carried away by how smoothly it was running, and I got a little flustered.\u201d<\/p>\n Yes, the Panamera really is a wonderful car.
