The mileage has now surpassed 13,000 km. Since I only drive about <strong>6,000 km per year, I still feel like I haven\u2019t truly mastered the 992 yet<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-28669\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/99440510-EBE5-47D7-9DAF-7C79B35DA491-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Ikitsuki Bridge and Porsche 911\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That said, I\u2019ve started feeling the urge to give the 992 a bit of an image makeover.<\/p>\n<p>When I originally ordered this car, I deliberately chose the factory 19\/20-inch Carrera wheels. The reasons were:<\/p>\n<p>\u2460 Expectation of better ride comfort due to the lighter weight of smaller wheels<br \/>\n\u2461 Wheels can always be changed later anyway<br \/>\n\u2462 Balance with the smaller brake discs compared to the S model<\/p>\n<p>Regarding \u2460, after driving various 992s, I realized there isn\u2019t a big difference in ride comfort between 19\/20-inch and 20\/21-inch wheels. As for \u2462, since the base Carrera doesn\u2019t have red calipers, I felt the 20\/21-inch wheels wouldn\u2019t look too sparse either.<\/p>\n<p>So, I decided to go ahead with <strong>\u2461 and try changing the look<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_I_Chose_Satin_Aurum_Wheels\"><\/span>Why I Chose Satin Aurum Wheels<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When considering wheel replacement, my first candidate was my favorite Carrera Classic wheels. Cars wearing those wheels somehow feel more comfortable to ride in, and the design is very elegant.<\/p>\n<p>However, since I was going to change them anyway, I chose the factory Satin Aurum painted Carrera S wheels, which <strong>better complement the Aventurine Green body color<\/strong> than the silver-based Carrera Classic wheels I currently have.<\/p>\n<p>Originally, <strong>I had considered the Satin Aurum wheels several times when ordering<\/strong>, and I also remembered my wife, when configuring her ideal Carrera in Guards Red, had chosen Satin Aurum wheels and really liked the gold color.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30248\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/iris-1280x720.jpg\" alt=\"992 Carrera Cabriolet with Satin Aurum Wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30236\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/FFCD038D-0FCC-4CB2-BFE3-7EF1F5501946-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"992 Satin Aurum Carrera S Wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also, I had previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/718-cayman-gts-4-0-testrive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">test-driven a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0<\/a> that wore Satin Aurum wheels with the same Aventurine Green body, and it looked really sharp in person.<\/p>\n<p>By chance, I was able to acquire a used set of factory Satin Aurum painted Carrera S wheels. They were in good condition and already fitted with the factory tire pressure sensors (TPMS), so I decided to buy them immediately.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First_Impressions_After_Installation\"><\/span>First Impressions After Installation<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Visual_Impact\"><\/span>Visual Impact<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>A few days later, the new wheels arrived, and I promptly had them fitted at <a href=\"http:\/\/nishinomiya-base.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nishinomiya Base<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The impression after fitting was a big change from before. The car now has a very mature vibe but with just the right amount of flashiness. I also feel like I get more looks while waiting at traffic lights.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30240\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/6D9AAA1A-1792-4086-88CF-EE0DA3025AD6-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"992 Satin Aurum Carrera S Wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30238\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/2DE06A71-6D3B-40C9-AAF0-E644866B9A29-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"992 Satin Aurum Carrera S Wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-30235 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/D9870DF2-5005-4E8E-BA0A-D81DFD02BC6C-e1669087374307-1280x672.jpeg\" alt=\"992 Satin Aurum Carrera S Wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"672\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since Aventurine Green is originally a mineral color, the gold of the Satin Aurum wheels, also mineral-based, matches very well. Plus, my car\u2019s interior is Mojave Beige, so <strong>the yellowish tones inside harmonize naturally with the wheel color<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>When I look at my car parked, it feels like it has a certain \u2018flair\u2019\u2014almost like a demo car or a test vehicle.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ride_Comfort\"><\/span>Ride Comfort<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>As for ride comfort, the bottom line is that at low speeds around town, the 20\/21-inch wheels clearly feel more comfortable. More specifically, <strong>there seems to be about 10% less vibration on uneven surfaces, giving a smoother, more refined feel<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30246\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/8B39997C-4BFD-45FF-B324-A4711C8E200E-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"992 Satin Aurum Carrera S Wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This matches my experience with cars equipped with or without PCCB brakes: <strong>lighter unsprung weight can sometimes feel bouncier at low speeds<\/strong>, while heavier unsprung weight often results in a more composed ride. However, the difference is subtle enough that I no longer notice it unless directly comparing.<\/p>\n<p>Handling and cornering characteristics remain basically the same. Here, tire brand differences seem to have a bigger impact than wheel size.<\/p>\n<p>On the highway, <strong>I currently feel the 19\/20-inch wheels offer a more comfortable ride<\/strong>. The 19\/20-inch setup feels flatter and smoother at higher speeds, almost as if the road surface imperfections disappear, whereas the 20\/21-inch wheels don\u2019t provide quite the same sensation.<\/p>\n<p>However, I believe this is largely influenced by the tire brands.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30242\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/14F9A5CC-B222-4A9F-8BA1-B4C5360EEADE-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"992 Satin Aurum Carrera S Wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The 19\/20-inch wheels were fitted with Pirelli PZERO (Porsche-certified NA0), while the new 20\/21-inch wheels have Goodyear EAGLE F1 ASYMMETRIC 3 (also Porsche-certified NA0).<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve had Goodyear EAGLE F1 tires on my 981 Boxster GTS new from the factory, and my impression wasn\u2019t great. While grip on wet roads was outstanding\u2014possibly even better than Michelin\u2014the tires produced subtle, irregular vibrations at high speeds. I even had the dealer check for <strong>wheel balance issues<\/strong> right after delivery.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually, <strong>switching to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S dramatically improved ride comfort and made highway driving feel smooth and effortless<\/strong>\u2014something I also wrote about in my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/boxster-touring-at-tohoku3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">touring blog<\/a> for reference.<\/p>\n<p>This time, I\u2019m getting a very similar impression: compared to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or Pirelli PZERO, the Goodyear tires feel noticeably different.
