The suspension setup, including spring rates and damping system, follows the design philosophy of the 911 GT3 RS (991.2). <strong>The PASM is 30mm lower than the standard specification<\/strong>, with NACA air intakes on the front lid for brake cooling, a swan-neck wing at the rear, and the engine&#8217;s air intake box relocated inside the cabin, featuring a <strong>newly developed air filter that creates a distinctive deep, resonant interior sound<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the GT4 is already equipped to perform as a racing car, the GT4 RS adds features that make you think, \u2018<strong>They really went all out<\/strong>\u2019, making it truly a racing car that can be driven on public roads.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Once_You_Start_Driving\"><\/span>Once You Start Driving<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>When you start the engine, a deep sound resonates throughout the cabin. <strong>The startup sound is almost identical to the GT3, thanks to the same engine<\/strong>. The difference is that with the engine positioned right behind you, the sense of power is even more pronounced.<\/p>\n<p>Switching the PDK selector, which resembles a manual transmission shift lever, to D mode, you start moving. However, the GT4 RS won&#8217;t move forward just like that. <strong>The PDK, like in the GT3, is designed without a creeping function<\/strong>. Unlike the intense tire grip of the 992 Carrera or 992 GT3, the GT4 RS feels somewhat milder as it picks up speed.<\/p>\n<p>Cruising at town speeds of around 30 to 50 km\/h, my first impression is, &#8216;<strong>This is surprisingly easy to drive normally<\/strong>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>While the suspension feels slightly firmer than the GT4, it doesn&#8217;t feel drastically different. On flat roads, it&#8217;s quite comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>The engine sound at low RPMs resonates well inside the cabin, and unlike recent noise regulations that make cars suddenly quiet after starting, this car maintains its presence. In fact, with the windows closed, the sound is even more pronounced and powerful, likely because the engine and intake are inside the cabin.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hows_the_Handling\"><\/span>How&#8217;s the Handling?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Once accustomed to the car, I increased the pace a bit to test the cornering performance while keeping the PASM in normal mode.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The initial steering response is surprisingly gentle.<\/strong> It&#8217;s sharper than the standard Cayman, but compared to the 991 or 992 GT3, it&#8217;s almost underwhelming. This might be due to the engine placement, but even the 992 Carrera S Cabriolet with PASM sports suspension felt sharper on the same test day.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30073\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/57DE257B-23A7-4304-A645-AF99B909FB4C-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman GT4 RS Interior\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>In a good way, it&#8217;s easy to drive.<\/strong> It&#8217;s like a high-performance extension of the regular Cayman, allowing for relaxed driving on winding roads without feeling tense.<\/p>\n<p>That said, the RS badge is not just for show. <strong>The stability and grip during cornering are astounding.<\/strong> It&#8217;s impossible to test its limits on public roads, as it effortlessly handles any corner with ease.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Its true potential likely shines at ultra-high speeds where downforce is more effective.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Japan&#8217;s so-called &#8216;mountain passes&#8217;, it feels like the car is cornering purely on suspension settings and capabilities, without fully unleashing its potential.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30075\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/14B2EF24-754B-4108-928B-C84784D5F820-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman GT4 RS Center Console\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Switching the PASM to sport mode makes it noticeably firmer.<\/strong> You can clearly feel the road&#8217;s bumps, and the responsiveness and agility increase significantly. While many Porsche models show little difference between normal and sport modes, the GT4 RS exhibits a substantial difference.<\/p>\n<p>Frankly, <strong>in Japan, unless you take it to a circuit, its performance is wasted.<\/strong> It&#8217;s truly a treasure left unused. This isn&#8217;t an exaggeration; it&#8217;s genuinely how I feel. If you&#8217;re lucky enough to own a GT4 RS, I urge you to take it to a track. That&#8217;s where this car will truly be in its element.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Lightning-Fast_PDK\"><\/span>Lightning-Fast PDK<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>One of the standout features of this car is the exceptional performance of the PDK.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Porsche&#8217;s PDK transmission is already known for its quick shifts and minimal shift shock. Having experienced various cars, I can confidently say it&#8217;s <strong>the best transmission in the world<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>In the GT4 RS, the PDK has been further refined.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30076\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/308A72C4-CB35-4BAD-93CB-45BA09123951-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman GT4 RS PDK\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In automatic mode, it feels like the car anticipates upcoming curves, downshifting at the perfect moment and switching gears with incredible precision. <strong>The rapid gear changes are akin to a racing game<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Switching to manual mode and using the paddle shifters amplifies this sensation. The GT4 RS&#8217;s PDK has been further smoothed for downshifts, and the speed of these shifts is truly impressive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30084\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/6BB6560E-374C-47A9-8EF0-EEF3A89C246C-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman GT4 RS Front Fender\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30066\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/AEEF7AE3-5B88-410C-AB39-EFEB71A3DCE6-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman GT4 RS Exhaust\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pulling the left paddle twice quickly from 4th to 3rd to 2nd gear, the flat-six engine roars with a &#8220;Vroom! Vroom!&#8221; in rapid succession, completing the downshift with lightning speed. This speed is unparalleled in my experience. No matter how expensive the supercar, none can match this level of control.<\/p>\n<p>The PDK is so impressive that it could be described as &#8216;worth three bowls of rice&#8217;. While some lament the lack of a manual transmission option for the GT4 RS, I urge them to experience this. Manual operation simply cannot extract the full potential of this car.<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/gt4rs\/2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Next Page \u2192 GT4 RS Engine and Sound, Final Thoughts?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Engine and Sound<\/h4>\n<p>As expected, <strong>the sound of the GT4 RS is quite exhilarating<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>intake sound flowing from the intake located where the rear window would typically be is incredible,<\/strong> clearly conveying the engine&#8217;s breathing. With the engine closer than in the GT3, you can hear it live inside the cabin, <strong>truly a &#8216;live performance&#8217; of the GT3 engine.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During downshifts, a short intake sound &#8220;Shup!&#8221; echoes as the engine revs match, creating a unique and thrilling sound.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30078\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/DD2FCBBB-C565-4E79-9A21-75D07CDC7C19-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman GT4 RS Instrument Panel\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When you press the accelerator on a straight, the tachometer needle leaps up rapidly. As it approaches 9000rpm, the acceleration intensifies, just like the GT3. While many engines are known for high-revving capabilities, none match the dramatic and accelerating rev rise of the Porsche GT3 engine. It&#8217;s truly an exceptional revving experience.<\/p>\n<p>The power is undeniably overwhelming. If anything, <strong>the GT4 RS, being mid-engine, doesn&#8217;t have the same intense traction as the RR 911,<\/strong> but the face-stretching acceleration is still present. You can expect it to be as you imagined.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Final Thoughts<\/h4>\n<p>I&#8217;ve often said that the 911 GT3 is a completely different beast from the regular Carrera models, with a significant gap between the top Carrera, the GTS, and the GT3. I still believe this.<\/p>\n<p>However, when it comes to the Cayman GT4 and the GT4 RS, <strong>the driving feel is more of an extension of the regular Cayman.<\/strong> The GT4 RS is the pinnacle of the Cayman lineup, but it doesn&#8217;t feel as distinct from the regular models as the 911 GT3 does from the Carrera.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, in terms of performance, it&#8217;s a different story, but I&#8217;m talking about the &#8216;driving feel&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30089\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/AB0B1A24-8D69-45DD-95AF-59B5334E0885-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman GT4 RS\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30067\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/3732E17B-994C-46B1-9ED1-F13DDCCB4473-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman GT4 RS Rear Glass\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Therefore, <strong>the GT4 RS seems surprisingly usable<\/strong>. That said, it&#8217;s almost like a racing car, so I wouldn&#8217;t say it&#8217;s suitable for commuting, dates, or long-distance touring. It&#8217;s not suited for such purposes. However, it has a broader range of usability (and enjoyment) in everyday scenarios compared to the GT3.<\/p>\n<p>This is due to the engine sound, suspension settings, and gear ratios. <strong>With the GT3, you might feel frustrated not being able to rev the engine in the city, but the GT4 RS seems to have less of that issue<\/strong>. You can enjoy the sound at low RPMs, and it&#8217;s not extremely low-geared, so stop-and-go traffic isn&#8217;t as stressful.<\/p>\n<p>The ride is bumpy on rough roads, but not uncomfortable, and the steering has a moderate mildness.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-30093\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/D71FD861-FC0B-4E74-8AA6-5DFB73C37D34-853x1280.jpeg\" alt=\"718 Cayman GT4 RS Rear\" width=\"853\" height=\"1280\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The owner of this car, who also has experience with other high-performance cars like the GT3, shared their thoughts: &#8220;<strong>The GT4 RS is easier to use and drive than the GT3. Personally, I would choose the GT4 RS over the GT3.
