Getting the Hang of the Manual Boxster GTS<\/h3>\n

The other day, my husband asked, \u201cHaven\u2019t you completely forgotten to write Part 3 of \u2018The Day I Finally Get the Hang of Driving the Boxster GTS (Manual)\u2019<\/a>?\u201d He had a point. When I checked the date of my last article, it was July 17\u2026 (-_-)<\/strong> And if I haven\u2019t written about it since then, that means I haven\u2019t driven the Boxster since then, either.<\/p>\n

On the days I practice driving the Boxster, I think, \u201cRight! I\u2019m going to keep working at this!\u201d<\/strong> And I mean it. But when I mentioned that to my husband, he said:<\/p>\n

Why not? Driving a manual Boxster is incredibly fun. Kazuo Shimizu was saying the other day, \u201cA Porsche really has to be a manual. Once you can drive one, you can drive all the classic Porsches, too. It\u2019s the best!\u201d<\/p>\n

I know, I know. I get it in my head, but\u2026 (-_-)<\/p>\n

The truth is, I once failed to get the Boxster moving on a hill and ended up stopped in the middle of the road with my hazard lights on. That experience left me with a bit of a driving trauma, and I just can\u2019t picture myself driving that Boxster. It feels like being told to climb Everest right now\u2014a challenge that seems impossibly far beyond me.<\/strong> (Okay, maybe that\u2019s a little dramatic.)<\/span> So, if I\u2019m honest, I\u2019m not exactly bursting with motivation to master the Boxster.<\/p>\n

Then my husband added:<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd you\u2019ve got a Boxster and a legendary Mercedes-Benz SL (R129) sitting there, ready to drive whenever you want. What a waste! (T_T)\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, I\u2019ve got two little kids, and I\u2019m already scrambling every day to keep up with housework, parenting, the blog, and my own job. I can\u2019t also spend my days off going for drives! (`\u0414\u00b4)\u201d<\/strong> I argued. Still, I imagine that to people who love driving and cars, my current situation\u2014having a pair of classics at home and barely driving them\u2014must seem unthinkable.<\/p>\n

A Porsche Evangelist?<\/h3>\n

As I\u2019ve mentioned briefly on the blog before<\/a>, I do enjoy driving. I\u2019ll even make a three-hour drive to Yonago for work, and I love having a car for everyday life. But I\u2019m not quite like my husband, who\u2019s eager to \u201cget up early on a day off and go for a drive!\u201d<\/strong> or \u201chead out on a long road trip during the holidays.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

So even when the kids are older and I have more free time, I don\u2019t think I\u2019ll necessarily spend it touring around. That made me feel a little sad. Maybe, by most people\u2019s standards, I shouldn\u2019t even call myself a car enthusiast.<\/p>\n

But then again\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

When it comes to my enthusiasm for blogging, even I\u2019m impressed. I\u2019m always brimming with things I want to write about Porsche, and I\u2019m hoping to launch my \u201cPorsche Owners File\u201d<\/a> series soon, sharing real stories from Porsche owners.<\/strong> Just thinking about it gets me excited. So it\u2019s not that I\u2019m uninterested in cars\u2014in fact, I\u2019m fascinated by them.<\/p>\n

So how should I describe my love of cars?<\/span><\/p>\n

After thinking it over, I realized I\u2019m the type who\u2019s less \u201cinto cars\u201d in general and more intensely fascinated by Porsche as a brand<\/strong>. (What kind of type is that?)<\/span> I\u2019ve written before about how the new Cayenne is built<\/a> and the 911\u2019s history and evolution<\/a>. The more I learn, the more I find myself thinking, \u201cPorsche makes incredible cars!\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cWhat a wonderful company!\u201d<\/strong> I want to know more and more about Porsche, and my curiosity just keeps growing.<\/p>\n

And when I drive the Panamera after learning about the Cayenne factory or the 911\u2019s history, I appreciate the Panamera even more. Every drive brings a fresh sense of wonder. Sharing those discoveries on the blog, then hearing from readers through their comments and messages, makes it all the more interesting and fun.<\/p>\n

\u2026So what do you call that? A Porsche evangelist, maybe? (\u7b11) Whatever the label, I guess it\u2019s still pretty niche.<\/p>\n

As I write this, I realize that I\u2019m the sort of person who gets interested in a car by learning more about it. Maybe if I started from scratch and explored the Boxster\u2019s history and how it\u2019s made, I\u2019d feel more like getting behind the wheel\u2026 (Though I don\u2019t have to force myself to drive it.)<\/span><\/p>\n

Maybe I\u2019ll do a little research on the Boxster.
