My Brother-in-Law\u2019s Macan Turbo<\/h3>\n

Previously, I wrote an article about test driving my brother-in-law\u2019s Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo<\/a>, but before that, he drove a Macan Turbo. I borrowed that Macan Turbo for just one day back then, and \u201ceven as a compact SUV, it truly felt like a Porsche!\u201d<\/strong> So, I want to jot down a review based on my husband\u2019s impressions before I forget.<\/p>\n

2015 Model Macan Turbo<\/h3>\n

My brother-in-law\u2019s Macan Turbo is a 2015 model, almost fully loaded with options. The body color is dark blue metallic, slightly bluer than our Night Blue Metallic. The interior is Luxor Beige.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Personally, I might like the combination of \u201cnavy blue outside, beige inside\u201d<\/strong> the best. Now, let me share my husband\u2019s review right away.<\/p>\n

\u2460 Ride Comfort<\/h4>\n

This Macan Turbo was equipped with air suspension, but it wore large 21-inch 911 Turbo design wheels, so based on looks alone, we initially had no expectations for ride comfort.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

However, once driving it, the reality was the exact opposite \u2014 the ride comfort was outstanding.<\/strong> Even in Sport or Sport Plus modes, there was almost no unpleasant jolting or bouncing. Yet, the suspension was firmly damped, keeping the ride flat in every mode.<\/p>\n

When we say \u201cgood ride comfort,\u201d it can mean many things \u2014 soft and floaty, or firm but smooth. The Macan\u2019s air suspension excels in delivering a \u201cflat\u201d ride feel.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Also, perhaps due to high precision in the drivetrain, there\u2019s almost no friction felt. The smoothness is very pleasant, and on well-paved roads, it glides forward effortlessly. It\u2019s the most likable air suspension I\u2019ve ever experienced, and personally, I might even prefer it over the current Panamera\u2019s air suspension.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My brother-in-law also said it felt more comfortable than the Range Rover Sport he later bought, and that the body felt more solid and rigid.<\/p>\n

\u2461 Driving Performance<\/h4>\n

Nothing surprising happens when pushing it on mountain roads. Of course, with a higher center of gravity, it can\u2019t match a 911 at the limit, but its agility is surprisingly nimble. It felt almost like \u201ccornering in a hatchback, despite being an SUV.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Highway stability is excellent, needless to say. Especially in Sport Plus mode, the stability and confidence it inspires are remarkable. It almost felt like you could cruise at over 180 km\/h on any highway legally allowed.<\/p>\n

\u2462 Engine<\/h4>\n

It\u2019s not exceptionally high-revving or lightning-fast in response, but it delivers power and responsiveness worthy of the Porsche name. You can feel it\u2019s turbocharged, but there\u2019s no unpleasant turbo lag or difficulty driving.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Even if someone tailgates you on the highway, a single push on the accelerator can quickly make the car behind just a tiny dot in your rearview mirror.<\/p>\n

Any Concerns?<\/h3>\n

\u2460 PDK Transmission<\/h4>\n

The PDK of this generation sometimes makes gear noise or feels a bit jerky when shifting back and forth between 1st and 2nd gear at very low speeds.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/p>\n

People used to torque converter automatics might find this unpleasant, but personally, I didn\u2019t think it was much of an issue. This felt very similar to the late-model 970 Panamera Edition I drove before.<\/p>\n

\u2461 Rear Seats<\/h4>\n

The rear seats aren\u2019t as spacious as you might expect from the body size.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Of course, adult men can sit comfortably, but it\u2019s not exactly roomy, so if interior space is a priority, the Cayenne might be a better choice.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2462 Interior<\/h4>\n

This particular car was almost fully optioned, so the interior quality and equipment were very luxurious.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

However, the base Macan isn\u2019t this luxurious, so if you care about interior quality, it\u2019s best to actively choose options.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Overall Impression<\/h3>\n

Finally, here is my husband\u2019s overall impression.<\/p>\n

Macan Turbo. Even though it\u2019s an SUV, there\u2019s no doubt it\u2019s a sports car. Before test driving, I imagined \u201cit\u2019s a Porsche SUV, so it must be somewhat sporty,\u201d but once behind the wheel, it completely exceeded my expectations of sportiness.<\/strong>
\nIf you haven\u2019t driven a Macan yet and are considering SUVs in this class, I strongly recommend you take one for a test drive\u2014you won\u2019t regret it.<\/strong> And not just around town, but also on highways and curves. You\u2019ll realize it\u2019s a completely different kind of vehicle compared to other manufacturers\u2019 SUVs.
\nAlso, air suspension is highly recommended.<\/strong> If I were to buy a Macan, this is the one option I would definitely add. That\u2019s how impressive the suspension was.<\/p>\n

When my husband borrowed the Macan from my brother-in-law, he said, \u201cWhy don\u2019t you try driving it?\u201d<\/strong> but I replied, \u201cNo way, it\u2019s a precious Porsche\u2014what if I scratch it? I\u2019ll pass (\uff1b\uff9f\u0414\uff9f)!\u201d So, in the end, I didn\u2019t drive it.<\/p>\n

Looking back, I wish I had driven it even just a little bit. (I realize I\u2019m quite timid\u2014I barely drove the 911 I rented in Germany or the GLS I rented in the U.S. either\u2026)<\/span><\/p>\n
