At that time, I was impressed by <strong>the engine and body\u2019s rigidity, and the stability at high speeds was amazing.<\/strong> The handling was very sporty, but at town speeds, I felt the rear suspension was a bit bouncy over uneven roads and lacked composure.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29419\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29419\" class=\"size-large wp-image-29419\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/25830960-85E2-4E37-B26A-7C3DAA3DAEDB-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GLA200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-29419\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">This is my brother\u2019s GLA<\/p><\/div>\n<p>So, I didn\u2019t have high expectations for the ride comfort of the GLB when I test drove it this time, but I\u2019d like to share my impressions.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Design_and_Interior\"><\/span>Design and Interior<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>First off, my <strong>initial impression was that the car feels compact in width.<\/strong> Especially when viewed head-on. This is probably due to its height as well. I didn\u2019t feel this way with the GLA, but with the GLB, it\u2019s especially noticeable.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, it has a very square design, which is rare for modern cars.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s said to be inspired by the G-Class, and it really has the vibe of a <strong>mini G-Class\u2014modernized and smaller.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once inside, it\u2019s <strong>very easy to get in and out<\/strong> (though this may depend on your build). With full-size SUVs, you often have to climb up like stairs, but the GLB lets you smoothly slide into the driver\u2019s seat with ease.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, when getting out, you don\u2019t have to stretch your legs excessively. It\u2019s not like standing up from a low sedan or coupe seat; the height is just right to get out smoothly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29406\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/979D1413-FDD4-496A-8B63-F3EA97B89C41-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29396\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/80B7E87E-0370-48B2-B187-372E61039941-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Interior of GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29400\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29400\" class=\"size-large wp-image-29400\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/48F35E3E-822F-496F-B3BF-3BD6E8B1C9A5-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Seats of GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-29400\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Leather DINAMICA seats<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As expected from Mercedes, the interior <strong>is not just luxurious or high-quality, but also has a striking design flair.<\/strong> Despite the black-based color scheme, it feels very elegant with no hint of cheapness. Anyone riding in it would surely feel it\u2019s a premium car.<\/p>\n<p>The GLB200d 4MATIC I test drove is a model year MP202202. It was equipped with the AMG Line package and a panoramic sliding roof as options.<\/p>\n<p>The seats are finished in \u2018<strong>Leather DINAMICA<\/strong>\u2019, which is standard for the AMG Line package. The red stitching gives it a sporty vibe reminiscent of Porsche\u2019s GTS interior package.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29401\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29401\" class=\"size-large wp-image-29401\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/4A3F5B58-1F7D-4759-A19A-02960934F392-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-29401\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">MP202202 model lacks power seats<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Unfortunately, <strong>the MP202202 model lacks electric power seats due to semiconductor shortages.<\/strong> Wireless charging and the number of USB ports in the second row have also been reduced. However, these do not seem to affect the overall atmosphere, luxury feel, or powertrain, so no worries there.<\/p>\n<p>The second-row seats are very comfortable, with a flat design that surprisingly supports the lower back and spine well. This kind of seat craftsmanship is a testament to the long-standing European tradition of chair-making. Legroom is ample when the seats are slid back.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, <strong>three adults sitting in the second row might feel a bit cramped width-wise.<\/strong> If you need more space here, you might want to consider a larger SUV.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_29422\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29422\" class=\"size-large wp-image-29422\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/8B782C9C-CBF7-4A15-8C26-A18E4417ADB2-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-29422\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Legroom in the second row of GLB200d 4MATIC<\/p><\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_29423\" style=\"width: 1290px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-29423\" class=\"size-large wp-image-29423\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/2EA2AFF0-F460-464A-B599-A81EAE55A8B7-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Third-row seats of GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-29423\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Third-row seats of GLB200d 4MATIC<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As for the much-discussed third-row seats, <strong>my impression is that they\u2019re surprisingly usable.<\/strong> Of course, they\u2019re small and cramped, but you can manage for about 30 minutes. Compared to the rear seats of a 911, they\u2019re far more comfortable.<\/p>\n<p>There are also ISO-FIX mounts for child seats. The seats are a bit cave-like and dark, so small children might actually enjoy this cozy space.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Impressions_of_the_Diesel_Engine\"><\/span>Impressions of the Diesel Engine<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Personally, <strong>I\u2019m not a big fan of diesel engines.<\/strong> So I approached the 200d engine with some bias.<\/p>\n<p>However, to conclude, I found it to be <strong>the least off-putting diesel engine I\u2019ve ever driven.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When you press the start button, the engine quietly comes to life. Being a diesel, you can feel some vibration through the steering wheel and body at idle. But unlike older compact 4-cylinder gasoline engines without balancers, which had cheap-feeling strong vibrations, <strong>the vibration amplitude is very small and the frequency is stable,<\/strong> so you won\u2019t notice it much unless you focus on it.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, when concentrating on driving, you won\u2019t feel anything odd even when stopped.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29403\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/D0E2468F-F84E-4507-A07C-67DC1E5CE792-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Engine of GLB200d 4MATIC\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>What I want to highlight most about this car is the <strong>excellent coordination between the 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and the engine.<\/strong> This engine produces 320 Nm of torque from just 1400 rpm, and the dual-clutch AT perfectly delivers that torque without waste.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, a conventional torque converter AT offers smoother starts and gentler acceleration. But I really like this crisp gear change and acceleration feel.<\/p>\n<p>The acceleration is sufficient, and when you push the pedal, it accelerates firmly. The 0-100 km\/h time is a modest 9.3 seconds, but <strong>the torque sensation the moment you press the accelerator is impressive,<\/strong> making it feel quicker than the number suggests.<\/p>\n<p>Even I, accustomed to Porsche\u2019s acceleration, think so, so for most people this will be more than enough.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll share the rest in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/glb220d-4matic_2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">second part<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"GLB200d 4MATIC The other day, a friend of mine purchased a GLB200d 4MATIC, so I had the chance to test drive it.
