Finally, Production Begins for the 911 Speedster<\/h3>\n

On June 8, 2018, in Zuffenhausen, Germany, the 911 Speedster concept car was unveiled<\/a>. Since then, rumors about an official production announcement have been swirling for months. And at last, on October 2, Porsche officially announced the start of production for the Porsche 911 Speedster.<\/p>\n

\nThe Speedster is a traditional limited-edition Porsche model, featuring a lower front windshield than a standard 911<\/strong>, a manually operated soft top<\/strong>, and the signature “double bubble”<\/strong> design reminiscent of the Boxster Spyder. It is always released at the very end of the current generation\u2019s lifecycle.<\/p>\n

This new 911 Speedster was developed at the Weissach Research Center<\/a> and will enter limited production starting in the first half of 2019.<\/p>\n

By the way, the production run for this 911 Speedster is limited to 1,948 units\u2014a meaningful number commemorating the date June 8, 1948, when Porsche\u2019s first model, the 356 \u201cNo.1\u201d Roadster, was registered.<\/p>\n

The Long-Awaited Naturally Aspirated Engine<\/h3>\n

This 911 Speedster shares its body components with the previously revealed concept car but sports the model color \u201cGuards Red,\u201d which contrasts with the concept car unveiled in June. The wheel design closely resembles those found on racing cars like the 911 RSR and GT3 R. The daytime running lights are inspired by motorsport, and the centrally positioned fuel filler cap on the hood features black chrome and platinum finishes.<\/p>\n

The concept car\u2019s body is based on the 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet<\/strong>, with fenders, front hood, and rear hood made from lightweight carbon fiber composites, and the chassis borrowed from the 911 GT3. Additionally, the GT development division equipped the drivetrain with titanium exhaust pipes and a manually operated 6-speed gearbox.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the engine is a naturally aspirated (NA) flat-six delivering over 500 horsepower and capable of revving up to 9,000 rpm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

As for the price, it had not been announced as of yesterday\u2014but it\u2019s probably going to be quite high (laughs).<\/p>\n

With only 1,948 units produced worldwide, it\u2019s interesting to wonder how many will be allocated to local dealers\u2014or if any will be allocated at all. Given its stylish design and NA engine, reservations will undoubtedly fill up instantly and likely be decided by lottery.<\/p>\n

My husband has already placed a reservation, but I doubt we\u2019ll be lucky enough to get one. Still, I\u2019d love to see one in person at least once.<\/p>\n
