For example, on shows like Car Graphic TV, <strong>episodes featuring Ferrari rarely include other manufacturers\u2019 cars.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also, it\u2019s well known that <strong>Ferrari does not publish N\u00fcrburgring lap times<\/strong>, reflecting their philosophy that Ferrari is a unique, unparalleled brand not to be compared with others.<\/p>\n<p>But this is a personal blog. Without any deference or restraint, I want to write my honest impressions <strong>comparing Ferrari, Porsche, and other cars based purely on my own judgment and bias.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Ferrari_F8_Spider\"><\/span>The Ferrari F8 Spider<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The car in question is the Ferrari F8 Spider. The &#8220;Spider&#8221; designation means it\u2019s a Ferrari with an open-top option, featuring a hardtop roof that can be opened or closed at the push of a button.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s painted in Bianco Cervino, a white tone, with a red-themed interior equipped with racing carbon seats. The steering wheel is carbon fiber, and the interior feels far more glamorous and luxurious than Porsche\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29158\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/56586949-EE5B-46E3-B716-8F629F91D044-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider interior\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29154\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/E084F443-D7BB-4199-84CF-7C2A760E8147-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider seats\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29177\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/5BEED1A2-574C-4904-B420-0151C28CCCC2-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider gauges\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The engine is a <strong>3.9-liter V8 mid-mounted, boasting 720ps, 770Nm of torque, and an 8000rpm redline.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The exterior is stunning. <strong>Despite its considerable width, it actually looks more compact than it is.<\/strong> I heard that the design is no longer by Pininfarina since the 488, but the low-slung front flowing into the rear lines is magnificent.<\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, the wheelhouse clearance is quite generous\u2014seemingly more spacious than Porsche\u2019s\u2014yet it doesn\u2019t feel tall at all, which is impressive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29160\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/69FB73D6-0C45-4D70-B4A7-B01B054A3B15-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29167\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/CA540A8C-67A5-45D6-B5AA-529DAA0CC92F-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29148\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/4BC1D3AF-9BD4-4BE1-BDC0-890549943802-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re someone who thinks \u201c<strong>I want it!<\/strong>\u201d just from the design alone, feel free to close this blog now without reading further. <strong>Ferrari\u2019s greatest appeal is, after all, its design.<\/strong> This design satisfies both ownership pride and the desire to show off at the highest level.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ride_Comfort_of_the_Ferrari\"><\/span>Ride Comfort of the Ferrari<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Starting the engine awakens the Ferrari with a roar. It has an automatic transmission but no traditional D mode; you start in first gear using the paddle shifters.<\/p>\n<p>My first impression after setting off was that the ride comfort is better than the previous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/ferrari488-spyder\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">488<\/a> and even better than the last <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/ferrari-testdrive-202007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GTC4Lusso<\/a> I drove.<\/p>\n<p>I wondered if my memory was off, so I asked my brother, who agreed: &#8220;<strong>I think so too. The ride is definitely better than the Lusso.<\/strong>&#8221; The stiff body shell effectively suppresses vibrations caused by the firm suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, it\u2019s a sports car, so it\u2019s not as smooth as a sedan\u2014the ride is firm.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29152\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/0205C512-99F3-4469-9367-13D6FA01FAA5-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider wheels\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Compared to the latest Porsches, the 992 Carrera models have far better ride comfort, while compared to the 992 GT3, the Ferrari sometimes feels more comfortable depending on the road conditions.<\/p>\n<p>To elaborate on the comparison with the Porsche GT3: on rough surfaces at low speeds, <strong>the Ferrari feels more comfortable due to less side-to-side sway, but on flat or mildly uneven roads, the GT3 feels smoother.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The GT3\u2019s dampers are more supple and absorb shocks faster, but the Ferrari\u2019s suspension has more travel, reducing vibrations from large inputs or low-speed bumps.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, the Ferrari\u2019s ride is good. There are no unpleasant jolts or harsh vibrations, but on some surfaces, the shock absorption can lag slightly, causing a rattling or rumbling sensation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you put a spouse or girlfriend who isn\u2019t interested in cars in the passenger seat, I think it\u2019s just about acceptable without complaints.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Handling_Characteristics_of_the_Ferrari\"><\/span>Handling Characteristics of the Ferrari<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Driving through the city and heading toward mountain roads, the handling manners are completely different from Porsche. The steering lock-to-lock is just over two turns, and unlike Porsche\u2019s suspension and weight transfer-based cornering, Ferrari feels like it turns primarily with the steering wheel.<\/p>\n<p>So, <strong>at first, it feels like the steering is more responsive than expected.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29155\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/9F56F2FB-B8F8-49A9-A465-7A554E5B5CB4-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Driving Ferrari F8 Spider\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29145\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/32703F9C-2394-4CE8-97C1-07916B98601F-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Driving Ferrari F8 Spider\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Compared to the previous 488, it feels milder. The 488 amplified driver inputs more, but <strong>the F8 is a bit gentler and much easier to drive.<\/strong> This was a very positive point for me personally.<\/p>\n<p>However, beyond a certain steering angle, the Ferrari tends to oversteer and dive into the corner, which is typical Ferrari behavior. This requires some steering corrections and is a major difference from Porsche.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Porsche never does more or less than the driver intends.<\/strong> It\u2019s a faithful setup, but <strong>Ferrari tends to go ahead of the driver\u2019s intentions.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is part of Ferrari\u2019s charm\u2014the thrilling unpredictability and excitement.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Impressions_on_Winding_Roads\"><\/span>Impressions on Winding Roads<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Taking the Ferrari onto mountain roads, I increased the pace in the normal \u2018SPORT\u2019 mode.<\/p>\n<p>Even on mountain corners, the initial steering feel seems milder than the predecessor. While chatting with my brother about how much easier it is to drive, I operated the paddle shifters to downshift. The shift shock remains relatively strong compared to modern dual-clutch transmissions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>As someone used to Porsche\u2019s ultra-smooth, lightning-fast PDK shifts, I honestly felt a bit of a disconnect.<\/strong> It spoils the charm of the smooth, high-revving engine.<\/p>\n<p>I noted this with the Lusso as well and wonder if it could be smoother. <strong>Both upshifts and downshifts have some shift shock in manual mode.<\/strong> Of course, Ferrari likely includes some theatricality in gear changes, but this is one area I hope improves.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29147\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/34944DD7-B776-49C8-AE79-C34F9A9F1402-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Driving Ferrari F8 Spider\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My brother said the AT control is much smarter than the Lusso\u2019s. For example, when downshifting from 7th to 6th for overtaking on the highway, <strong>the Lusso annoyingly tries to upshift back to 7th against your will, but the F8 has improved this.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The handling is, naturally, excellent. It corners well and performs without issue. <strong>But if asked \u201cIs it fun?\u201d or \u201cDoes it feel good?\u201d, I\u2019d say it\u2019s fun in a different way.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I recently wrote about test-driving the Mercedes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/e200-coupe\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">E200 Coupe<\/a> and how impressed I was driving it in sport mode.<\/p>\n<p>Asked if that feeling exists in the Ferrari, I didn\u2019t sense it.<\/p>\n<p>I know it\u2019s strange to compare the E200 Coupe and Ferrari F8 directly. In terms of speed, Ferrari wins hands down.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/FCAC7FFB-2312-42CF-A76E-4E588508F803-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider exhaust\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But I\u2019m talking about feeling, not numbers. When you look ahead into a corner, ease off the throttle, apply weight, and turn the wheel slightly, the car responds instantly and smoothly, creating a very pleasant sensation.<\/p>\n<p>That feeling was present in the E200\u2019s sport mode, making me smile, but it\u2019s different with Ferrari.<\/p>\n<p><strong>With Porsche, you get a lot of feedback from the car and feel like you\u2019re part of a team with it,<\/strong> while Ferrari always anticipates the driver\u2019s inputs and tries to turn more vividly. On corner exit, when you open the throttle hard, the rear gets twitchy, almost as if the Ferrari is daring you: \u201c<strong>Try to push me if you dare.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rather than being a team effort, <strong>it feels like you\u2019re taming a living creature with its own will called Ferrari.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you can appreciate this as \u201cinteresting\u201d or \u201cfun,\u201d Ferrari will be the perfect partner.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Impressions_on_the_Highway\"><\/span>Impressions on the Highway<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Switching to the highway, I drove the Ferrari at cruise. At 7th gear cruising, it feels very calm, and you might forget you\u2019re in a 720ps Ferrari. The engine noise is surprisingly quiet, but road noise is somewhat loud, so you\u2019ll want to raise your voice a bit to hold a conversation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When gently opening the throttle from steady cruise in 7th gear, the response feels a bit sluggish.<\/strong> It accelerates with a slight delay\u2014a phenomenon I also noticed in the 488. The pickup from low revs when easing on the throttle is slow.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29146\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/21F5D71C-951F-4687-82DA-2AB7C9CBC618-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider mode switch\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I wondered if this was turbo lag or simply a lack of low-end torque. Later, I found that Ferrari claims \u201c<strong>zero turbo lag<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But at least in this situation, my impression was quite different.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, the response is outstanding once the revs are up, so perhaps that\u2019s what they mean.<\/p>\n<p>When the road clears, I floored the throttle. Needless to say, the acceleration is furious. No 911 Carrera stands a chance. <strong>It reaches the target speed in no time<\/strong>, or rather, you realize you\u2019ve already exceeded it.<\/p>\n<p>The acceleration phase is so brief that there\u2019s no time to feel speed or fear. Of course, it\u2019s stable at high speed, but it\u2019s an exhilarating acceleration experience.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, Ferrari founder Enzo Ferrari once said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\"><strong>Those who choose Ferrari crave instantaneous acceleration more than absolute top speed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This perfectly reflects the philosophy behind Ferrari\u2019s car design even today.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29149\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/133D76C8-F2AE-4D88-AE04-7E1BAF672129-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, about the engine sound everyone wonders about.<\/p>\n<p>Compared to the 488, probably due to the GPF (Gasoline Particulate Filter) installed to meet Euro 6d regulations, the sound is relatively quiet and somewhat muffled. While the 488\u2019s V8 turbo seemed to rise in pitch as revs climbed, the F8\u2019s sound range feels narrower.<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you expect the high-revving, wind-in-the-pipes sound typical of Ferrari engines, you might find it a bit underwhelming.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Horse_and_Rider_Separate\"><\/span>Horse and Rider Separate<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After driving the Ferrari in the city, on winding roads, and on the highway, one phrase came to mind: \u2018<strong>Horse and rider separate<\/strong>.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Horse and rider as one\u2019 is usually a compliment, so this might sound like criticism, but it\u2019s not. I deliberately chose \u2018horse and rider separate\u2019 to express Ferrari\u2019s charm.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29157\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/4E9DBCB0-C0B2-41C1-930D-1BA56891517F-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider logo\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is because I think Ferrari\u2019s kind of \u2018fun\u2019 is the polar opposite of Mazda\u2019s Roadster, which uses \u2018horse and rider as one\u2019 as its slogan. The Roadster is probably the best example of a car with the opposite kind of fun to Ferrari.<\/p>\n<p>The Roadster\u2019s lightweight body, modest power, and slightly soft suspension let you control weight transfer and enjoy becoming one with the car. Ferrari, with its huge power, sensual engine sound, and somewhat risky handling, offers fun by making the driver confront and wrestle with the car.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, <strong>the fun is in taming the \u2018prancing horse\u2019 that doesn\u2019t obey commands.<\/strong> That\u2019s why I describe Ferrari as \u2018horse and rider separate.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-29174\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/99D8E26A-4C5C-48C9-8C58-1202C72D5CC7-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Ferrari F8 Spider\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Even with the F8, which is much more driver-friendly than previous models, the Ferrari bloodline remains strong.<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s still very much a \u2018prancing horse,\u2019 in my opinion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Before I bought and drove a Porsche, like many others, I thought Porsche and Ferrari were rivals.
