You can find details about Porporu 4E&#8217;s Panamera 4E Hybrid specifications, options, and delivery schedule in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/porsche-owners-file-panamera4ehybrid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">1) Driving Performance<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Does the battery weight affect the driving experience?<\/h4>\n<p>I often get asked, &#8220;Do you feel the weight of the battery when starting or accelerating?&#8221; In city driving, the electric drive (E-Power) provides ample performance. If you&#8217;re looking for a more thrilling acceleration, switching to &#8220;Sport&#8221; or &#8220;Sport Plus&#8221; mode, or kickdown to start the engine, is recommended.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5316 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e9\u3000\u30e2\u30fc\u30c8\u3099\u30b9\u30a4\u30c3\u30c1-800x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t had enough test drives to fully compare the acceleration impact of the battery weight between the 4S and 4E Hybrid. However, I believe that the Panamera Turbo might be the only sports saloon offering a more exhilarating acceleration than the 4E Hybrid.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Is the engine and motor (electric) integration smooth?<\/h4>\n<p>When asked if the integration is &#8220;seamlessly smooth,&#8221; that might not be the best description. In the 4E Hybrid, when you press the accelerator firmly in Hybrid Auto mode or E-Power mode, the engine kicks in. It feels like a two-step process: first, the motor power gives a &#8220;whoosh!&#8221; followed by the engine power with a &#8220;vroom!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>However, I understand that E-Power mode is primarily for quiet, environmentally friendly driving using motor power. I drive with the mindset that &#8220;Hybrid-Auto is a mode where the program automatically determines efficient power distribution.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5320 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e9\uff14E\u30cf\u30a4\u30d5\u3099\u30ea\u30c3\u30c8\u3099-800x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After driving the Panamera 4E Hybrid, I realized that rather than focusing on the engine and motor integration, the car&#8217;s identity lies in the motor&#8217;s supportive role when you want to activate more power in &#8220;Sport&#8221; mode.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">2) Driving Modes and Engine Sound<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Which mode to use in the city and on highways?<\/h4>\n<p>In the city, I often use Hybrid-Auto or E-Power. When heading to Roppongi, where there are many charging stations, I frequently use E-Power mode. However, if I use E-Power mode extensively, even when switching to Hybrid-Auto mode, the engine doesn&#8217;t start immediately, and the system automatically continues in motor mode, judging that E-Power suffices for the driving conditions.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5321 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e9\uff14E\u30cf\u30a4\u30d5\u3099\u30ea\u30c3\u30c8\u30993-800x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On highways, I mainly use Hybrid-Auto. During delivery, I was advised, &#8220;Please drive gently for the first 3,000 km and avoid revving over 4,000 rpm.&#8221; So, I haven&#8217;t fully explored the sporty driving in Sport or Sport Plus mode yet. I hope to report on whether the hybrid can deliver the sporty Porsche driving experience once I have the chance.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">How is the engine sound in a hybrid car?<\/h4>\n<p>In E-Power mode, the engine starts immediately when selecting E-Charge mode for charging or pressing the accelerator. The sound of &#8220;bavoom, vrooom!&#8221; is simply irresistible (laughs). A motor journalist once wrote, &#8220;Just a slight press on the accelerator delivers a reassuring exhaust sound that conveys a sense of increased torque,&#8221; and I couldn&#8217;t agree more.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve driven in Sport mode a few times, and the moment you switch modes, the engine roars and transforms, a sensation I&#8217;ve never experienced with any car other than the Panamera.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">3) Ride Comfort<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">How is the ride comfort?<\/h4>\n<p>The new Panamera 4E Hybrid is praised for its air suspension, and rightly so. After driving it for about six months, I&#8217;ve never felt any floatiness. At low speeds, the ride is smooth without feeling stiff, while at high speeds, you can enjoy a ride that perfectly balances firmness and suppleness.<\/p>\n<p>When purchasing this car, I test-drove other brands as well. Although those cars had top-notch exteriors, interiors, and chassis, the difference with Porsche was clear. It&#8217;s hard to express, but the ride comfort of a Porsche feels like it &#8220;blends seamlessly&#8221; with you.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">How spacious is the interior?<\/h4>\n<p>Regarding interior space, I&#8217;m about 178 cm tall, and a person sitting in the back seat (adult 170 cm) said, &#8220;There&#8217;s plenty of legroom.&#8221; As expected from a luxurious sports grand touring hybrid.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">4) Fuel Efficiency<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">What is the total fuel efficiency after delivery?<\/h4>\n<p>Various motor magazines mention the fuel efficiency of the Panamera 4E Hybrid. When I combined the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) values with the Porsche Model Range (2018 Ver.3), it looked like this:<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<td>Motor Magazines<\/td>\n<td>Porsche Model Range<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Normal<\/td>\n<td>7.8\u20137.7L\/100km (12.8\u201313.0km\/l)<\/td>\n<td>12.4km\/l<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>4E<\/td>\n<td>2.5L\/100km (40km\/l)<\/td>\n<td>10.8km\/l<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>4S<\/td>\n<td>8.2\u20138.1L\/100km (12.2\u201312.3km\/l)<\/td>\n<td>12.4km\/l<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Turbo<\/td>\n<td>9.4\u20139.3L\/100km (10.6\u201310.7km\/l)<\/td>\n<td>10.0km\/l<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>While driving, the cumulative average displayed on the meter panel ranges from &#8220;4.0-99.0 km\/l,&#8221; and the cumulative average for E-Power only driving is always &#8220;99.0km\/l.&#8221; Incidentally, the meter&#8217;s fuel efficiency display shows a total of &#8220;10.8km\/l,&#8221; which matches the Porsche Model Range figure (when driving in Hybrid-Auto mode).<\/p>\n<p>During &#8220;E-charge&#8221; driving, the meter panel&#8217;s cumulative average always shows 4.0km\/L. Since I often go to Roppongi and Azabu, where charging is frequent, I think that&#8217;s why I&#8217;m getting a total of &#8220;10.8km\/l.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s difficult to calculate fuel efficiency assuming no charging spots were used after delivery, but I suspect it might be around 9km\/L. This might be because I live in an urban area.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Fuel efficiency when frequently using highways<\/h4>\n<p>When traveling about 300\u2013400 km (highway: general road = 9:1 ratio) in Hybrid-Auto mode, the cumulative average is around 13\u201314km\/L. So, when asked, &#8220;Is the Panamera 4E Hybrid eco-friendly?&#8221; it might not be considered very eco-friendly. However, considering the weight and power of this car, the fuel efficiency might not be bad.<\/p>\n<p>Our apartment has a multi-story parking lot, so we don&#8217;t have E-mobility installed. However, if you have a &#8220;charging pedestal&#8221; in your home&#8217;s parking lot and always drive around town in &#8220;E-Power&#8221; mode with a full charge, it could be considered &#8220;eco-friendly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/porsche-owners-file1-panamera4ehybrid-driving\/2\/\">\u2192\u3010Next Page\u3011 Charging Tips, Recommended Options, and Overall Evaluation<\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">5) Charging<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">The Panamera 4E Hybrid&#8217;s connector is SAE J1772<\/h4>\n<p>After delivery, I learned from &#8220;EVsmart&#8221; and other charging-related materials that there are mainly two types of connectors for PHVs and EVs:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u30fbCHAdeMO <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(pronounced &#8220;Chademo,&#8221; a connector from the association)<\/span><br \/>\n\u30fbSAE J1772<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(also known as IEC62196?)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>It seems that the only connector compatible with the Panamera 4E Hybrid is J1772. I didn&#8217;t know this initially, so I tried using a free charging port at a facility after delivery, but the connector shape was different, so I couldn&#8217;t charge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5310 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u5145\u96fb\u30b3\u30cd\u30af\u30bf\u3000\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e9-800x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I read the charging manual at delivery, but since it was a translation from German, I couldn&#8217;t fully understand it. At the very least, I would have appreciated information about incompatible charging spots due to connector types at delivery. Although a charging set was included at delivery, it seems it cannot be used domestically.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Registration with Japan Charge Network (JCN) is essential<\/h4>\n<p>Later, I managed to find out that a company called &#8220;Japan Charge Network (JCN)&#8221; provides charging infrastructure services to EV\/PHEV users. <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(It took quite some effort to find this information, haha)<\/span> If you don&#8217;t have a membership card, you need to log in to &#8220;Japan Charge Network&#8221; in advance and issue a &#8220;visitor password.&#8221; The procedure is relatively simple:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\"><strong>\u3018Procedure\u3019<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2460 Click &#8220;Issue Password&#8221; on the smartphone login screen<br \/>\n\u2461 Click &#8220;Visitor Registration Application \/ Password Acquisition&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2462 Select &#8220;Tokyo&#8221; and &#8220;\u3007\u3007 Ward&#8221; to display the target spot name<br \/>\n\u2463 Click &#8220;Decide&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2464 &#8220;Agree&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2465 Enter credit card, mobile number, etc.<br \/>\n\u2466 The password is issued, and an email is sent to the registered address, completing the process<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">\uff0aThe entire process takes about 1 minute.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">\uff0aWhen actually using it, an email with &#8220;required time, power consumption, and fee&#8221; is instantly sent after charging, which is very convenient.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Unable to charge at Tokyo Midtown, but possible at Roppongi Hills?<\/h4>\n<p>After registering with Japan Charge Network (JCN), I confirmed on &#8220;EVsmart&#8221; that the connector at Tokyo Midtown is J1772 and went to charge.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5308 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e94E\u30cf\u30a4\u30d5\u3099\u30ea\u30c3\u30c8\u3099\u3000\u5145\u96fb-800x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/p>\n<p>First, I input the password, etc., into the controller to start charging, but despite trying several locations, I couldn&#8217;t charge. Although the connector was securely attached, the charging controller didn&#8217;t recognize it, and I couldn&#8217;t enter the password. After several inquiries to the dealer, I received a response that &#8220;the charging port at Tokyo Midtown is not compatible, but charging is possible at Roppongi Hills,&#8221; so I decided to try Roppongi Hills next.<\/p>\n<p>I quickly went to the charging port at Roppongi Hills, attached the connector, and the red light on the right lit up <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(it didn&#8217;t light up at Midtown)<\/span>. After that, I entered the password into the controller, and charging began. Success! Haha<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5312 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e9\u3000\u5145\u96fb\u98a8\u666f-800x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The P2 parking lot at Roppongi Hills has a total of 240 charging ports across three floors from the second basement to the fourth basement<\/strong>. However, only 2-3 ports are in use whenever I visit. Why did Mori Building create so many ports? <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(Not that it&#8217;s my concern, haha)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5309 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e94E\u30cf\u30a4\u30d5\u3099\u30ea\u30c3\u30c8\u3099\u3000\u516d\u672c\u6728-800x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Is it inevitable to charge more often at Porsche Centers?<\/h4>\n<p>Ultimately, there were only a few charging spots near my home besides the Porsche Center. So, <strong>owners with a nearby Porsche Center will likely charge there more often<\/strong>, but it&#8217;s generally only available on weekdays and requires a reservation in advance, so I recommend checking beforehand. <strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(\uff0aSome Porsche Centers do not have charging ports)<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, for my Panamera 4E Hybrid, the kWh required for 1 km of driving is about 3.5 <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(the display range so far is 3.4~3.6)<\/span>, so charging at a regular port for about 4 hours increases the E-driving range by about 41-42 km.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5314 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u30e1\u30fc\u30bf\u30fc\u3000\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e9-800x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/p>\n<p>However, <strong>the &#8220;E-driving possible range of 50 km&#8221; is a figure under optimal conditions, and the full-charge driving range in the city is at best 35-40 km, and it might be challenging to reach even half of 25 km in summer with the air conditioner running<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5318 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e9\u3000\u8d70\u884c\u53ef\u80fd\u8ddd\u96e2-800x530.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, all charging spots at service areas on highways in the southeastern Tohoku to Tokai regions I visited were &#8220;CHAdeMO (authentication system: NCS).&#8221; Also, <strong>for the Panamera 4E Hybrid, it takes 4.4 hours to fully charge from zero with normal 200V charging, so charging at a service area might be a bit impractical<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">6) Parking<\/h3>\n<p>As I mentioned in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/porsche-owners-file-panamera4ehybrid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">previous article<\/a>, I hadn&#8217;t driven for 11 years, so when I first parked the over 5-meter-long, nearly 2-meter-wide vehicle in a 1950mm-wide multi-story parking lot, I was sweating despite it being mid-winter (laughs). Initially, I couldn&#8217;t grasp the car&#8217;s width, and the park assist warning sound was constantly on. Now I can park smoothly, but initially, it was a cycle of &#8220;one step forward, two steps back.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-5179\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/\u30cf\u309a\u30ca\u30e1\u30fc\u30e94E\u30cf\u30a4\u30d5\u3099\u30ea\u30c3\u30c8\u30994.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"500\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Assume you can&#8217;t park in city coin parking lots<\/h4>\n<p><strong>I&#8217;ve never parked in a city coin parking lot.<\/strong> I&#8217;ve never seen a parking lot in the city that can accommodate the Panamera 4E Hybrid&#8217;s parking restrictions. In my case, the only places I&#8217;ve parked in Tokyo are mainly Roppongi Hills or Mori Building-related parking lots.<\/p>\n<p><strong>When asked, &#8220;Aren&#8217;t you dissatisfied with limited parking and lack of maneuverability?&#8221; I have no complaints at all<\/strong> (laughs). Once you experience the Panamera&#8217;s superb driving performance and allure, parking space issues become insignificant.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Check parking space in advance at travel accommodations<\/h4>\n<p>I love hot spring trips, and before purchasing the Panamera, I often traveled to hot springs nationwide by plane. This year, I&#8217;ve already visited about five times with the Panamera 4E Hybrid, and I always <strong>confirm the parking situation with the accommodation in advance<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Parking in a narrow space and having the car next to you open their door with a &#8220;bang!&#8221; would be a shame for the Panamera.<\/p>\n<p>When making a reservation, I always confirm, <strong>&#8220;The car is slightly large, so could you possibly secure space for two cars?&#8221;<\/strong> Every hotel and inn I&#8217;ve stayed at has been accommodating.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">7) Options I Wish I Had \/ Points for Improvement<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">Options I wish I had added<\/h4>\n<p>It&#8217;s been about six months since delivery, but if I were to purchase a new Panamera 4E Hybrid, the must-have options would be:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u2460 20-inch wheels&#8230; I originally wanted 20-inch wheels, but was advised that &#8220;the ride might become uncomfortable,&#8221; so I went with 19-inch. However, after reading the article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/2018\/05\/12\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Why my husband chose 21-inch wheels for the Panamera Turbo&#8221;<\/a>, I thought, &#8220;I should have gone with 20-inch!&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2461 Rear axle steering&#8230; I want to experience the sensation of &#8220;feeling like a wide turn at first, but then it turns sharply.&#8221;<br \/>\n\u2462 Soft-close doors&#8230; To prevent the half-door warning sound<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, I&#8217;d like to try adaptive cruise control and sports exhaust, but I&#8217;m concerned that the vehicle weight might exceed the weight limit of the apartment&#8217;s multi-story parking lot.<\/p>\n<p>However, it&#8217;s currently difficult to accurately determine the vehicle weight with options installed, so I hope to share such information in the Porsche Owners File in the future.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">The navigation system is a bit cumbersome<\/h4>\n<p>There are no major complaints, but if I had to point out an area for improvement, it would be that <strong>the navigation system feels a bit imprecise<\/strong>. While the distance and arrival time are accurate, there seems to be a slight lag in point movement and map zooming. Sometimes I wonder, &#8220;Why did it choose this route?&#8221;<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">The gas tank cap is hard to close<\/h4>\n<p>Also, on a minor note, the gas tank cap is hard to close. When I first had it done by a gas station attendant, they said, &#8220;I don&#8217;t quite get it&#8230;&#8221; (laughs). However, once you get used to it, it&#8217;s not a problem at all.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">8) Overall Evaluation of the Panamera 4E Hybrid<\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\">No Panamera, No Life!!<\/h4>\n<p>I can&#8217;t say much since I haven&#8217;t fully explored the sporty driving in Sport or Sport Plus mode yet, but <strong>the torquey sound and the feeling of surging forward are fantastic<\/strong>. <strong>Despite its large body, the Panamera offers a smooth ride that sometimes feels like it&#8217;s hugging the road, which is unique for a car of this size<\/strong>. As I become more adept at driving it, I believe I&#8217;ll experience a sense of unity between driver and car.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, while other cars require pressing the accelerator to reach 150 km\/h, the Panamera 4E Hybrid surpasses 150 km\/h before you realize it. <span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">(I usually adhere to the legal speed limits)<\/span> This difference is significant. With a 4WD capable of a top speed of 278 km\/h, drivers can confidently entrust themselves to the car.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, I test-drove another German car, but honestly, I found it &#8220;lacking and dull.&#8221; <strong>Once you become a Porsche owner, it&#8217;s hard to switch to another car, which is a bit daunting (laughs)<\/strong>.
