Since some have kindly allowed me to share their inquiries, I thought I\u2019d start featuring these questions and my answers here going forward.<\/p>\n<p>So, here\u2019s a question I received recently:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">Do you feel that dealers or stores treat you differently depending on the car you drive there? Do you pay attention to what car you take when visiting a dealer?<\/p>\n<p>Interesting\u2026 I wonder how others handle this.<\/p>\n<p>I asked my husband right away, and he answered like this:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Well\u2026 I guess it\u2019s better to show up in a decent car rather than a beat-up one.<br \/>\nWhen I first bought my Porsche (a 981 Boxster GTS), I thought, &#8220;<strong>If I\u2019m going to a Porsche dealer, I should probably go in a respectable car. I should also wear the best watch I have.<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\nBut now, I don\u2019t really feel that way anymore.<br \/>\nIn fact, the other day when I went to test drive at a BMW dealer for the first time, I went in the 992 (Porsche 911 Cabriolet). I had originally thought, &#8220;<strong>I\u2019ll take the Swift Sport<\/strong>,&#8221; but since my wife was using it, I just took the 992 that was parked at home.<br \/>\nI guess I\u2019ve lost that kind of fussiness recently.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28905\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/IMG_3909-700x480-1.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche\" width=\"700\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Showing up in a decent car might convey to the dealer that you\u2019re &#8220;<strong>not just browsing<\/strong>,&#8221; and some salespeople might be more positively impressed.<\/p>\n<p>That said, in my experience\u2014which isn\u2019t extensive\u2014I\u2019ve never noticed a blatant change in how a dealer treated me when I went in a Volkswagen Golf versus a Porsche 911.<\/p>\n<p>Cars (and really, any big purchase) aren\u2019t just about buying and being done. <strong>There\u2019s ongoing communication with the dealer about maintenance, insurance, and more<\/strong>, so it might be more important to visit in a way that feels natural to you and see if you vibe well with the dealer.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of which, when I asked our Porsche dealer contact, Mr. H, about this, he said:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">I don\u2019t think we openly change our attitude based on the car someone drives in, but salespeople are human, so it might subtly affect how they respond.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Its_About_the_Person_Not_the_Possessions\"><\/span>It\u2019s About the Person, Not the Possessions.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I asked my husband, &#8220;<strong>You used to care about the car and watch you brought with you\u2014why don\u2019t you anymore?<\/strong>&#8221; and he replied:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">I used to think that when going somewhere important, you should pay attention to status symbols to some extent\u2026<br \/>\nBut after going more often to luxury hotels, fine dining, and high-end car dealers, I realized that &#8220;<strong>the things you wear or the status you show aren\u2019t as important as I thought.<\/strong>&#8221;<br \/>\nWhat matters more is how you treat the people at the store and how you behave yourself.<br \/>\nNo matter how expensive your stuff is, acting arrogant or like &#8220;I\u2019m the customer, so I\u2019m entitled&#8221; just isn\u2019t right.<br \/>\n<strong>Even if your appearance is minimal, if your attitude and manners are solid,<\/strong> I\u2019m sure the dealer will pick up on that and treat you well.<\/p>\n<p>Makes sense\u2026<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28907\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/IMG_5251-1280x960-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By the way, a friend of my husband who works at a luxury hotel once told me this:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Truly wealthy people come to luxury hotels dressed normally and driving ordinary cars.<\/strong> They\u2019re incredibly humble. They often look like regular folks, but later you find out they\u2019re CEOs of huge companies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I thought, wow\u2026 real wealthy people, those beyond our everyday world, don\u2019t need to show off. They\u2019ve reached that level after going around the block three or four times, so to speak.<\/p>\n<p>Dear readers, do you pay attention to anything special when you visit a dealer?
