It seems that people who love cars often have a strong interest in watches too. I\u2019m not very knowledgeable about watches (actually, I\u2019m pretty clueless about brands and recent trends)<\/span>, but I do have a vague image of what kind of watch I\u2019d like men who drive Porsches to wear. So today, I want to write about that.<\/p>\n

What do others think?<\/h3>\n

By the way, when I searched online about “watches that suit Porsche,”<\/strong> I was surprised to find quite a few articles on the topic. For example…<\/p>\n

When you think of Porsche, you think of Steve McQueen starring in “Le Mans,” so there\u2019s the “TAG Heuer Monaco” that McQueen wore on his right wrist in the movie,<\/p>\n

My husband isn\u2019t particularly obsessed with watches, but he has a few favorites that he roughly (very roughly)<\/span> rotates among.<\/p>\n

\u2460 HUBLOT for Hot Seasons<\/h4>\n

He owns a HUBLOT Classic Fusion<\/a> that he bought about four years ago.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

In hot seasons, wrists get sweaty while driving, so he prefers a rubber strap like this Hublot over leather. He bought the Hublot because fewer people had one back then and he wanted to \u201ctry out what Hublot was like.\u201d<\/strong> He chose the Classic Fusion because he wanted a simple design.<\/p>\n

\u2461 Grand Seiko for Cold Seasons<\/h4>\n

He likes Grand Seiko, but since leather bands get really dirty with sweat, he only wears it in seasons when he doesn\u2019t sweat. This model is the GRAND SEIKO SPRING DRIVE GMT SBGE033 LIMITED EDITION<\/a>.
\n\"\"<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cThere are other watches I think look nice, but this one fits me best when I wear it. Grand Seiko is my favorite brand.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u2462 Porsche Watch for Touring<\/h4>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

When going on tours, he always wears a watch from the Porsche Driver\u2019s Selection. He\u2019s not showing it off to anyone, but it\u2019s quartz so it keeps accurate time. And above all, it\u2019s Porsche (laughs).<\/strong> Also, if he forgets it somewhere, it\u2019s not too expensive to be a big loss. (Forgetting a serious watch would be no joke.)<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2463 Heirloom Grand Seiko<\/h4>\n

My husband was born into a family of merchants. This watch is a 1971 Grand Seiko heirloom<\/strong> from his great-uncle, who started his own business instead of inheriting the family trade and succeeded in Kobe. When he received it, it was battered and scratched and barely working, so it was left untouched for a long time. But about four years ago, he decided to send it to Grand Seiko\u2019s \u201cComplete Service\u201d and revived it. He says, \u201cThis watch, which survived the high-growth period in Kobe, seems to have something special.\u201d<\/strong> So he only wears it for important business meetings or presentations.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Hmm… looking at it carefully after hearing that, it really does seem like a watch with something special (laughs).<\/p>\n

Among all these watches, my husband likes Grand Seiko the most, so I asked him, \u201cBut isn\u2019t Grand Seiko often said to match Lexus well or be similar to Lexus?\u201d<\/strong> He immediately disagreed, laughing.<\/p>\n

People say Grand Seiko and Lexus are similar, but I think they\u2019re totally different. They\u2019re alike only in being high-quality Japanese brands, but Grand Seiko is a solid product that strips away excess and focuses on watch performance.<\/strong> It\u2019s made through continuous \u201csubtraction,\u201d removing unnecessary decorations and functions beyond what a watch needs. It\u2019s like a Japanese sword of watches. (I wonder what a Japanese sword-like watch really looks like… lol)<\/span> On the other hand, Lexus adds every possible comfort and latest feature to the car\u2019s functions, expressing \u201chospitality\u201d through \u201caddition.\u201d So it\u2019s not about which is better or worse; Grand Seiko and Lexus have completely different product concepts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

He was very passionate about this.<\/p>\n

My Perspective<\/h3>\n

So, I thought a bit about \u201cwhat kind of watch I\u2019d like men who drive Porsches to wear,\u201d<\/strong> and here are the points I came up with:<\/p>\n

\u2460 Watches that prioritize functionality<\/h4>\n

I think Porsche is a manufacturer that values car performance over flashy looks,<\/strong> so watches that are heavily fashion-oriented don\u2019t seem to fit. It\u2019s better to have watches that pursue and emphasize their original performance and functions.<\/p>\n

\u2461 Watches that clearly show the time at a glance<\/h4>\n

Similar to the above, I feel watches that don\u2019t instantly show the time don\u2019t suit. Watches that properly fulfill their original role of \u201ctelling the time clearly\u201d<\/strong> look better. So, a watch with an easy-to-read dial is preferable.<\/p>\n

\u2462 Designs with a playful spirit, but not too simple<\/h4>\n

Since Porsche balances \u201cpracticality\u201d and \u201cdriving pleasure,\u201d I think it\u2019s good to have a watch that not only shows the time and performs well but also makes you happy and excited to wear it. So a design with some playful elements rather than being too plain<\/strong> seems better.<\/p>\n

\u2026So, which watch brands meet these criteria (-_-)?<\/span><\/p>\n

Thinking about it, it\u2019s surprisingly difficult, and there are many models within each brand that I don\u2019t know well… (So why did I even start thinking about watches? lol)<\/span> Based on my image alone, here\u2019s my ranking:<\/p>\n

1st: IWC<\/h4>\n

I picked TAG Heuer partly because this model\u2019s name is \u201cCarrera\u201d (laughs).<\/p>\n

As for me, before we got married, my husband gave me a Cartier watch<\/a>,<\/p>\n

but I\u2019m not really good with watches or accessories. They feel heavy and I don\u2019t like the feeling of metal touching my skin, so I usually don\u2019t wear watches, necklaces, or bracelets (lately I even forget to wear earrings)<\/span>. I basically prefer to wear nothing because it feels natural and comfortable.<\/p>\n
