Naturally, when we were newlyweds, there was no Porsche in our home, and I wasn\u2019t interested in cars at all.<\/p>\n<p>So, I never imagined that 10 years later, we\u2019d be running a Porsche blog together as a couple.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28620\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/IMG_6261-700x480-1.jpg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3\" width=\"700\" height=\"480\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now, we run a blog as a couple and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/product\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">every Saturday we host something like a radio broadcast on Twitter Spaces<\/a>, so maybe that\u2019s why people often say,<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>You two have a shared hobby and seem like a really close couple.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But honestly, we don\u2019t really think of ourselves as \u201c<strong>close<\/strong>\u201d \u2014 just a pretty ordinary married couple\u2026<\/p>\n<p>That said, looking back on the changes over these 10 years, I do think, \u201c<strong>If we weren\u2019t getting along, it wouldn\u2019t have turned out like this.<\/strong>\u201d So I wanted to reflect on us as a couple.<\/p>\n<p>In conclusion, I feel that what\u2019s worked well is that we\u2019ve \u201c<strong>thought about a relationship style that fits us, rather than following societal norms.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now, let me dive into what we\u2019ve valued over these 10 years and how we\u2019ve shaped our own way of being a couple.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Prioritizing_%E2%80%9CFeeling_Comfortable_with_Myself%E2%80%9D\"><\/span>Prioritizing \u201cFeeling Comfortable with Myself\u201d<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We both share a value\u2014whether good or bad\u2014that \u201c<strong>I am the most important person to myself.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The key is \u201c<strong>valuing our own will and being in a comfortable state<\/strong>.\u201d Because when we\u2019re happy ourselves, we can make the other happy too.<\/p>\n<p>When we think about \u201c<strong>our comfort<\/strong>,\u201d often doing things together isn\u2019t the best option, so we usually spend time separately.<\/p>\n<p>We almost always spend long holidays apart, and we rarely go grocery shopping together on our days off.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28621\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/7667FE11-EF0D-4873-B53C-7C5CF05892E7-1280x853-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche Macan\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also, when it comes to plans to go somewhere on a day off, we clearly say \u201c<strong>YES or NO<\/strong>\u201d to each other.<\/p>\n<p>For example, if my husband asks, \u201c<strong>Want to go to \u25ef\u25ef together today?<\/strong>\u201d and I\u2019m not interested or don\u2019t feel like going, I just say, \u201c<strong>No, I won\u2019t go<\/strong>\u201d and decline straightforwardly.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I suggest something and he says no, and other times we both want to go and do it together.<\/p>\n<p>Rather than \u201c<strong>I should say yes so I don\u2019t hurt their feelings,<\/strong>\u201d we clearly communicate \u201c<strong>I like this, I don\u2019t like that,<\/strong>\u201d and I think this honest approach helps us understand each other\u2019s preferences and spend time comfortably together.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Respecting_Each_Others_Worlds_and_Keeping_a_Healthy_Distance\"><\/span>Respecting Each Other\u2019s Worlds and Keeping a Healthy Distance<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We haven\u2019t explicitly talked about this, but I feel there\u2019s an unspoken rule of \u201c<strong>not stepping too deeply into each other\u2019s worlds.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Recently, a fellow Porsche owner who knows us both asked me,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u201cMina-san, as the wife of a company president, do you ever visit your husband\u2019s company or give opinions on how it\u2019s run?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When asked that, I thought, \u201c<strong>Oh\u2026 come to think of it, I\u2019ve never done that at all.<\/strong>\u201d I don\u2019t even know how many employees my husband\u2019s company has now or the current situation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28622\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2B119AC6-F966-4345-8A81-250F43895F32-1280x853-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche Macan\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Also, when I mentioned that \u201c<strong>it took me 10 years to fully repay the loan for the company I started in my 20s,<\/strong>\u201d someone asked,<\/p>\n<p class=\"well2\">\u201cThat must have been tough. But since your husband drives so many Porsches and earns well, couldn\u2019t he have helped pay it off?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I replied, \u201c<strong>Well, it\u2019s my company, so that\u2019s between me and my business, and I have to repay it myself\u2026<\/strong>\u201d but I realized I\u2019d never thought about it that way before.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at it this way, we have a kind of clear-cut stance of \u201c<strong>he\u2019s he, and I\u2019m I.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We haven\u2019t formally agreed on this, but even as a married couple, we\u2019re still individuals\u2026 and I think this healthy distance helps us maintain a good relationship.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Not_Being_Obsessed_with_Anniversaries\"><\/span>Not Being Obsessed with Anniversaries<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We don\u2019t really care much about anniversaries\u2026 or rather, <strong>we both often forget them lol.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve forgotten our wedding anniversary a few times, and even when we remember, we just say, \u201c<strong>Shall we go out for sushi that\u2019s not the 100-yen conveyor belt kind?<\/strong>\u201d and have a casual family dinner\u2014no special celebrations.<\/p>\n<p>I admire couples who cherish anniversaries and celebrate properly, and I\u2019m sure some would say, \u201c<strong>Forgetting your anniversary is unthinkable!<\/strong>\u201d but honestly, it\u2019s beyond our control (we don\u2019t even put it on the calendar lol).<\/p>\n<p>But for us, I think the feeling is more like \u201c<strong>valuing the ordinary 364 days over the one special anniversary day.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So while we give each other freedom day to day, we also respect \u201c<strong>boundaries we don\u2019t cross<\/strong>\u201d and try to keep in mind to care for and be considerate of each other as much as possible (though we don\u2019t always succeed lol).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28623\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/1C9C183C-2879-44AE-8318-63A4F4411A3B-1280x960-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche 911 GT3\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Valuing_Our_Conversations_as_a_Couple\"><\/span>Valuing Our Conversations as a Couple<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Nowadays, we talk every day, but after our second daughter was born, there was a period when <strong>we hardly spoke at all.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At that time, my husband often came home late, and I was exhausted from childcare and would fall asleep with the kids, so we had no time to talk and didn\u2019t even try to make time.<\/p>\n<p>Our relationship then felt a bit tense.<\/p>\n<p>Then, by chance, we started this Porsche blog, and our conversations increased dramatically.<\/p>\n<p>Most of our talks were about the blog\u2019s daily traffic, article content, and car mechanics, but having more conversations naturally led us to talk about the future and what we were thinking at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Through these talks, I learned that although my husband doesn\u2019t show it often, <strong>he\u2019s protecting our family in his own way<\/strong> and carrying big responsibilities, including at his company.<\/p>\n<p>I started thinking, \u201c<strong>If that\u2019s the case, then it\u2019s fine for him to go on solo tours or buy the cars he loves.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maybe the reason people say we\u2019re \u201c<strong>close<\/strong>\u201d even though we\u2019re not always together is because our conversations have built mutual trust.<\/p>\n<p>We want to keep valuing our conversations as a couple going forward.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Continuing_to_Find_Our_Best_Way_as_a_Couple\"><\/span>Continuing to Find Our Best Way as a Couple<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We\u2019re only 10 years into marriage, so we\u2019re not in a position to preach, but I think what we have now is the result of \u201c<strong>searching for what\u2019s best for us, not what society says is normal for couples.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t necessarily the right way for everyone, just what works for us, and there are as many ways to be a couple as there are couples in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Our relationship will likely continue to evolve as our children grow and circumstances change, but we want to keep growing as a couple who \u201c<strong>cherish what\u2019s important to us.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"About Us, the Porsche Owner Couple We\u2019ve been married for 10 years this year.
