It\u2019s clearly a very sought-after event.<\/p>\n<p>My husband has participated before in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/boxster-gts-run-at-fsw-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Boxster GTS (981)<\/a> and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/entry\/992-wetmode-inthe-hardrain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">911 Cabriolet (992)<\/a>, but this time he took the wheel of the 911 Carrera 4 GTS he bought last year.<\/p>\n<p>As usual, I followed along with our three kids (8, 5, and 1 years old) in the Cayenne.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-28173\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/5DADE727-5AD1-4420-A818-E160D1924D78-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Porsche Cayenne\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It had been a while since I last drove the Cayenne, but its ride quality is refined and luxurious, the interior spacious, with plenty of room for luggage, and of course it drives like a true Porsche. The E-Hybrid\u2019s acceleration is especially quick and exhilarating.<\/p>\n<p>The kids love the Cayenne (they absolutely refuse to ride in Dad\u2019s 911\u2026 haha), and the driver can enjoy the drive, so <strong>I\u2019m reminded once again that it\u2019s a car that makes the whole family happy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As for the weather\u2026 although the forecast had promised sunshine, rain started falling as we arrived, and the mountain pass from Gotemba to Lake Yamanaka was so foggy you couldn\u2019t see more than a few meters ahead.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-28171\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/5CFA7B8D-152A-4A50-92F5-A69489536DE2-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Lake Yamanaka Porsche\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u2026but thankfully the rain stopped on the day itself! (Though it began again by the time the track day ended.)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-28179\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/0AF64AC6-3326-4CBF-8E0B-AF3559564D3B-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Fuji Speedway Porsche\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>My husband will write about his impressions of driving the 911 Carrera 4 GTS on the circuit in a separate article, so <strong>I\u2019d like to share some tips and thoughts about attending a track day with kids.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Tips_for_Attending_a_Track_Day_with_Kids\"><\/span>Tips for Attending a Track Day with Kids<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Bring_items_to_keep_the_kids_entertained\"><\/span>Bring items to keep the kids entertained<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>If you\u2019re attending with children, <strong>bringing things to keep them occupied<\/strong> is essential. For example, if the track day includes two 30-minute sessions, there can be several hours of downtime between runs.<\/p>\n<p>While my husband is on track, we can watch together, but outside of that, the kids often find the waiting time boring and tough.<\/p>\n<p>If your kids love cars, just watching the sports cars zoom by might be enough to keep them happy, but in our case, my 8- and 5-year-old daughters have no interest in cars at all.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-28169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/B52422B4-B5BC-468A-A2F8-AE37335FE4F1-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Fuji Speedway\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So we usually bring coloring books and origami, but this time we also brought a Nintendo Switch.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as we arrived, the two girls started playing Mario Kart, and honestly, they barely glanced at Dad\u2019s second run, happily snacking and racing each other instead (laughs).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-28166\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/061E39B8-1C85-471F-B0A7-2FD2DA3F6613-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Fuji Speedway\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Always_bring_your_own_lunch\"><\/span>Always bring your own lunch<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Depending on the venue and event, <strong>if the track day spans lunchtime, it\u2019s best to bring onigiri, sandwiches, or other food with you.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Fuji Speedway, restaurants may be open sometimes, but there are often long lines or they may be closed unless there\u2019s a major event, so it\u2019s safer to bring your own food.<\/p>\n<p>When we first attended a track day at Fuji Speedway, we completely forgot to bring lunch and the restaurants were packed, so we ended up surviving on snacks instead. (That was fun in its own way, though!)<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-28177 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_1498-800x600-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Fuji Speedway\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are vending machines scattered around for drinks like tea and coffee, so no worries there, but definitely bring food with you.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Choose_a_compact_maneuverable_stroller\"><\/span>Choose a compact, maneuverable stroller<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><strong>If you bring a stroller, it\u2019s best to have a small, easy-to-maneuver one.<\/strong> Many circuits don\u2019t have elevators (at Fuji this time, there was only a freight elevator\u2014maybe there was a passenger one somewhere, but we couldn\u2019t find it), so you\u2019ll often have to carry the stroller up and down stairs. A compact stroller that\u2019s easy to carry is much more convenient.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve been using a stroller we bought for about 5,000 yen at Nishimatsuya since our eldest daughter was born, and it\u2019s been incredibly handy in situations like this.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-28178\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IMG_1266-800x533-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Fuji Speedway\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This time, our youngest son was fussy a lot, so <strong>we switched to carrying him in a baby carrier partway through.<\/strong> He weighs about 12 kg now, so it was heavy, but the carrier made it easier to move around and he quickly fell asleep, which was a big help.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"style4b\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dress_for_cold_weather_even_in_spring\"><\/span>Dress for cold weather, even in spring<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The 911DAYS track day at Fuji Speedway is held every year in late March, and I\u2019m known as a \u201cstorm and heavy rain lady,\u201d so the weather is often snowy, rainy, or quite chilly.<\/p>\n<p>This time, <strong>when the sun was out, it was warm enough to work up a sweat, but as soon as it disappeared and the wind picked up, it got very cold\u2014there were big temperature swings.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fuji Speedway sits at about 550 meters elevation, so the weather can change quickly.<\/p>\n<p>For that reason, I recommend preparing a slightly thicker jacket or layers assuming it will get cold. On the other hand, summer there must be very sunny and strong.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-28168\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/676BA7CF-919A-4B23-A5A4-F4D65994159B-1280x960.jpeg\" alt=\"Fuji Speedway\" width=\"1280\" height=\"960\" \/><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Next_time_maybe_take_the_Shinkansen\"><\/span>Next time, maybe take the Shinkansen?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>After we got home, my husband and I talked about this:<\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">If we participate again next year, it might be better for me and the kids to take the Shinkansen and rent a car from the station. The kids love trains more than cars, so they\u2019d be happy, and the travel time would be shorter.<\/p>\n<p>Driving from our home to Gotemba, where Fuji Speedway is located, takes about seven hours including breaks.<\/p>\n<p>While we adults are used to it, it\u2019s a long trip for the kids and a bit tough on them.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, on the way home this time, <strong>our youngest son vomited several times in the car.<\/strong> The next day, the doctor diagnosed him with a stomach virus, which then spread to our younger daughter, husband, and eldest daughter\u2014making the week after quite difficult (I miraculously stayed symptom-free).
