However, even though both love cars, my husband and his brother are completely different types. My husband is a Porsche-obsessed car geek, while his brother has owned \u201cBMW,\u201d \u201cMaserati,\u201d \u201cLamborghini,\u201d and \u201cPorsche\u201d before now buying a Ferrari.<\/strong> Somehow, he seems to prefer Italian cars over German ones.<\/p>\n They also look so different that you\u2019d hardly guess they\u2019re brothers when they\u2019re together.<\/p>\n The more I observe them, the more I think they\u2019re a perfect example of the difference between Porsche lovers and Ferrari lovers<\/strong>. So, I decided to analyze these two close family members to explore what sets Porsche fans apart from Ferrari fans (laughs).<\/p>\n The biggest difference between the two is their attitude toward fashion. My husband has zero interest in fashion and wears Uniqlo head to toe all year round (but Uniqlo is cheap and durable, so it\u2019s super practical)<\/span>. When he shops for clothes, he usually says things like \u201cAlright, I\u2019ll get three shirts in different colors then.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Even if I suggest, \u201cWhy not look for something with a different design?\u201d<\/strong>, he replies,<\/p>\n \u201cAs long as it\u2019s durable and comfortable, that\u2019s all I need. Plus, looking for something else is a hassle, so different colors are fine.\u201d<\/p>\n He wears his denim until holes appear in the pockets or seat, and often he doesn\u2019t even notice the holes and keeps wearing them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n On the other hand, my brother-in-law is the complete opposite\u2014he\u2019s very particular about fashion and quite stylish.<\/strong> I only see him occasionally at family gatherings, but I\u2019ve never seen him wear the same outfit twice, and he knows a lot about brands. His wife once told me,<\/p>\n \u201cEvery morning before work, he pulls clothes out of his closet and goes \u2018this won\u2019t work, maybe that?\u2019\u2014it\u2019s like watching a fashion show every day (laughs).\u201d<\/p>\n He also works hard to maintain his physique, regularly going to the gym and paying close attention to his diet.<\/strong> Apparently, he often gets compliments for being \u201cstylish and cool,\u201d and his wife says he\u2019s \u201cstill handsome and a proud dad even after 10 years of marriage.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n Seeing him, my husband once joked, \u201cWhat\u2019s up with him? Is he trying to be a model or something?\u201d<\/strong> (LOL)<\/p>\n My husband doesn\u2019t like to stand out. His job often requires him to speak or present in front of people, and he\u2019s good at it, but he\u2019s always said,<\/p>\n \u201cI wish someone else would do this. I prefer to work quietly by myself.\u201d<\/p>\n True to his word, lately he\u2019s been handing over presentations and public speaking to others and keeping to the background.<\/p>\n When it comes to his favorite brand watches and bags, he avoids designs that are obviously branded and says \u201cIt\u2019s better if people don\u2019t realize it\u2019s a brand.\u201d<\/strong> So he deliberately buys more understated designs (which seems a bit of a waste\u2026 lol)<\/span>.<\/p>\n By contrast, my brother-in-law seems to enjoy standing out quite a bit. (I haven\u2019t asked him directly if he likes attention, but that\u2019s just my impression.)<\/span> According to family stories, he was the type to stand out at school<\/strong>, and even now he often finds himself in the spotlight.<\/p>\n Even I, who\u2019m not familiar with brands, can recognize many of the watches and bags he wears and think, \u201cWow! That\u2019s a \u25cb\u25cb!\u201d<\/strong> He\u2019s good at styling himself, so those luxury items suit him well.<\/p>\n A personality test once ranked my husband\u2019s \u201csociability\u201d score as 34th out of 34 items\u2026 but he can hold normal conversations (lol)<\/span>, so people don\u2019t think he\u2019s unsociable. However, he says,<\/p>\n \u201cI can talk endlessly about things I\u2019m interested in, like \u2018Porsche\u2019 or \u2018cars.\u2019 But I\u2019m not good at ordinary social gatherings or networking events where there\u2019s no common topic. I can\u2019t remember people\u2019s faces or names. I\u2019d rather go straight home and watch car videos on YouTube or play car racing games on my PlayStation\u2014it\u2019s way more fun.\u201d<\/p>\n Seeing this, his brother once joked, \u201cWhat\u2019s up with you? Are you aiming to be a Porsche driver or something? lol\u201d<\/strong> My brother-in-law is the exact opposite\u2014very sociable. His wife says they eat out every night, and on days off he\u2019s rarely at home, always out with someone. He also invites friends over for barbecues and goes on trips with multiple families. He seems to love socializing and is good at expanding his network.<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2026Thinking about it, my husband and his brother really are polar opposites. Maybe that\u2019s why they get along so well\u2014they\u2019re not alike, but different.<\/p>\n After analyzing my husband and his brother, let\u2019s finally talk about the cars. Both Porsche and Ferrari are luxury car makers, but their directions seem completely different. What follows is just my personal speculation, so it might be wrong\u2014please take it as one individual\u2019s viewpoint.<\/p>\n I once heard the saying, \u201cPorsche is an \u2018industrial product,\u2019 Ferrari is a \u2018work of art.\u2019\u201d<\/strong> Porsche is praised for its outstanding performance as a car, while Ferrari is admired for its beautiful design and engine sound, which is said to be like a musical instrument. So Porsche fans tend to fall in love with Porsche\u2019s superb performance as a car<\/strong>, while Ferrari fans often love its design and the beauty of its sound.<\/strong><\/p>\n Conversely, Porsche fans who buy Ferraris often say, \u201cWhat\u2019s this unreliable car?!\u201d and Ferrari fans who buy Porsches often say, \u201cIt\u2019s a good car, but the design and sound are totally lacking!\u201d<\/p>\n Porsche and Ferrari were founded by very different types of people. Porsche began when Ferdinand Porsche, the engineer who designed the Volkswagen Type 1, established a design office.<\/strong> Ferdinand Porsche famously said,<\/p>\n A small, lightweight, and energy-efficient sports car. I searched everywhere for such a car that met my ideal, but couldn\u2019t find one. So I decided to build it myself.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n In other words, Porsche\u2019s founder was a \u201cgreat craftsman.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n On the other hand, Ferrari was started by Enzo Ferrari, a race driver who founded Scuderia Ferrari with his colleagues and operated as a semi-works team for Alfa Romeo.<\/strong> After retiring from racing, Enzo managed Alfa Romeo\u2019s works team with great success and expanded the sales network of his Alfa Romeo dealership in Modena. Later, he established Ferrari under his own name and produced the first racing model in the founding year.<\/p>\n So, Ferrari\u2019s founder was an \u201cexcellent businessman.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n The difference between the craftsman Porsche, who relentlessly pursued his ideal sports car, and the businessman Ferrari, who excelled at growing a company, seems to reflect the differences between the two companies today.<\/p>\n Porsche is a luxury car and can be seen as a \u201cstatus symbol,\u201d but not to the extent of Ferrari.<\/strong> In some areas (city centers and upscale neighborhoods)<\/span>, many Porsches are on the road, but Ferraris are rarely seen even there. (In 2017, Porsche sold 246,375 units, while Ferrari sold 8,398 units.)<\/span> Ferrari\u2019s lower production volume makes it rarer and gives it a more exclusive image.<\/p>\n This is just speculation, but while Porsche puts effort into building and maintaining brand power, it seems they focus more on \u201cmaking great cars.\u201d<\/strong> Ferrari, on the other hand, appears to put a lot of effort into brand building and maintenance, with strategies extending from production volume to sales tactics.<\/p>\n With that in mind, my husband, who is a practical, functional, low-key car geek who enjoys his own world,<\/strong> is well matched with Porsche, a craftsman brand that keeps making great sports cars without sacrificing practicality or function.<\/strong><\/p>\n And my brother-in-law, who cares about appearance, likes to stand out, and is sociable,<\/strong> fits well with Ferrari, a brand known for beautiful design, form, and high status symbol value.<\/strong><\/p>\n In other words,<\/p>\n Husband = geeky = doesn\u2019t want to stand out = doesn\u2019t care much about looks \u2252 Porsche Something like that (laughs).<\/p>\n \u2026That said, I\u2019ve never really had a proper conversation like this with my brother-in-law, so if it turns out he\u2019s a huge geek, this theory might be completely overturned\u2026 Maybe next time the family gets together, I\u2019ll try to ask him about it (laughs).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A Story About Two Car-Loving Brothers My husband proudly admits he\u2019s a car enthusiast, and his younger brother shares the same passion.
