However, after buying it,  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Even though he finally bought a Porsche, <strong>he was so busy with work that he had no time to drive it as things stood.<\/strong> He decided to delegate more tasks to others and create a system that could run smoothly without him. From then on, he resolved to work with the mindset of <strong>raising his hourly wage<\/strong> rather than just focusing on annual income.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s what he started thinking.<\/p>\n<p>At that time, my husband was still working on the front lines himself, but five years later, the company now runs smoothly even without him.<\/p>\n<p>I had always wanted to hear more details about how he reached this state, but whenever I tried to talk about it at home, the kids would always interrupt, so I never got around to asking.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5340\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/09\/IMG_8211-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"Interior of the new Cayenne\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, last weekend, while driving home from my parents\u2019 house on the highway at night, my husband was driving, I was in the passenger seat, and all three kids in the back were asleep, so I decided to ask him the question I\u2019d been wondering about for a long time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>You said you created a system that runs without you, but what did you start with first?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He answered like this:  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Well&#8230; I didn\u2019t go about it by systematizing and training step by step. Instead, I just <strong>threw projects at people, letting them gain experience and overcome challenges on their own.<\/strong><br \/>\nThey\u2019d face situations like \u201cMy proposal got approved!\u201d or \u201cOh no, I have to get this done by tomorrow!\u201d and learn to handle it by themselves. That\u2019s how I entrusted tasks.<\/p>\n<p>He continued,  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Of course, training and steadily nurturing people is a good approach. It might even develop them faster and more reliably.<br \/>\nBut I\u2019m not the type to be passionate about \u201chuman resource development.\u201d I\u2019m not very interested in raising people&#8230;<br \/>\nMy philosophy is, <strong>\u201cThey\u2019re adults now, so I want them to think for themselves and grow on their own.\u201d<\/strong> So I chose to let them experience projects firsthand and take responsibility.<br \/>\nThis way, people might grow more slowly. But my company\u2019s business model isn\u2019t one where we have to constantly chase new clients. I thought it was perfectly fine for people to learn and grow through their own experiences and failures.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-3793\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/IMG_7051-800x600.jpg\" alt=\"New Porsche Cayenne\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I asked, \u201c<strong>But doesn\u2019t worrying about failed projects make you want to interfere or micromanage?<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He replied,  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Well&#8230; I do give advice when asked, but <strong>no matter how much you teach, you can\u2019t really understand until you fail or experience it yourself.<\/strong><br \/>\nIt\u2019s the same with starting a business. At first, you go out and make big promises, then think, \u201c<strong>Oh no, I actually got the job! I have to figure this out!<\/strong>\u201d and scramble to make it work. That cycle is how you grow.<br \/>\nAlso, I felt that <strong>people who don\u2019t learn and grow by realizing things themselves wouldn\u2019t fit the culture of my company back then.<\/strong><br \/>\nI also made sure to assign projects where, even if things went wrong, it was okay. I\u2019d say, \u201c<strong>Even if there are some complaints, I can go apologize, so it\u2019s fine.<\/strong>\u201d and then let them handle it.<br \/>\nThis approach helped people grow in my company, so I think it suited me.<\/p>\n<p>I see. It takes courage to just throw work at people like that, but if you don\u2019t, they won\u2019t grow.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">Also, I often think about <strong>risk diversification.<\/strong> If you depend on one client or one business model, when that fails, it\u2019s over.<br \/>\nJust like in investing, where they say to diversify risks, I think the same applies to management.<br \/>\nIf you build multiple revenue pillars so that if one fails, others can support you, the company can run without rushing human development.<br \/>\nWell, this might be different from conventional management thinking, though.<\/p>\n<p>he said.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"style3a\">Moving Forward with Your Own Compass, Not Bound by Convention<\/h3>\n<p>When I said, \u201c<strong>Even if what\u2019s commonly said is A, you choose to go with B&#8230; Your attitude of not being bound by convention hasn\u2019t changed at all, has it?<\/strong>\u201d<br \/>\nhe said,  <\/p>\n<p class=\"well3\">I\u2019m not the serious, model-student type of CEO to begin with, haha. I was always thinking about how to make time to drive my Porsche.<br \/>\nEven as a kid, I never did my summer homework until August 31st, and I was always thinking about <strong>\u201chow to make things easier\u201d and \u201cif there\u2019s a shortcut somewhere.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nIn that sense, I don\u2019t care about what teachers, parents, or others think. More important than others\u2019 opinions is <strong>\u201cmy own comfort\u201d and \u201cfreedom.\u201d<\/strong><br \/>\nSo regarding company management, I don\u2019t have the desire to <strong>\u201cgrow sales or scale up\u201d or \u201cimpress others.\u201d<\/strong> I don\u2019t care if others go public or grow.<br \/>\nInstead, I\u2019ve always wanted to build a <strong>financially strong company.<\/strong><br \/>\nA company with high productivity and profit per employee, multiple profitable pillars, and one that doesn\u2019t flinch at minor shocks. I\u2019ve been working toward that, and the methods I use aren\u2019t the usual ones but ones that fit us.<\/p>\n<p>I see&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-27423\" src=\"https:\/\/www.panamera-life.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/F796D388-43D0-4393-AE35-C7653AFA4C60-1280x853.jpeg\" alt=\"Driving on Yamanami Kaido\" width=\"1280\" height=\"853\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After hearing my husband\u2019s story this time, I thought, \u201c<strong>I wish I\u2019d heard this kind of story much earlier.<\/strong>\u201d Maybe I did, but at the time I didn\u2019t really understand or wasn\u2019t listening seriously enough&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m the type who does everything myself\u2014a typical craftsman\u2014and I like working hard.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, I think that\u2019s my strength.<\/p>\n<p>But now, approaching 40, with young kids and a body that can\u2019t push like in my 20s, <strong>I\u2019ve come to strongly feel that I need to break away from my old ways, create systems that run without me, and change how I earn.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I know it won\u2019t happen overnight and will take a few years, but luckily, my husband, a senior in both business and life, is nearby, so I hope to absorb a lot from him and put it to good use.<\/p>\n<p>During our conversation, I also asked about his future work and earning style, and he gave a very interesting answer, which I\u2019d like to share in another blog post.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Got a Porsche, but No Time to Drive It In 2016, my husband purchased his first Porsche, a Boxster GTS (981, MT).
